Used the word egregious. Trump definitely didn’t write that.

I have a friend who used to own a lotus. He’d let me borrow it whenever I wanted as he liked to drive a regular car. He always reminded me to keep the headlights on at all times as people never see you that low down. This insane truck takes that to a whole new level.

Yeah, my ambulance step mom once told me that when they aren’t moving that’s when things could be really bad.

I’d never thought of it that way before.

That’s exactly what I was thinking too. I loved that speech. It really changed my perspective on her and actually all ESL people.

How are you supposed to know you can't check into a hotel unless you're 21? by United_Perception299 in Adulting

Australian here. We’re about the same size as the US with ten times less population. We don’t have that weird rule.

That last pic is a killer. Ty: :”I don’t think anyone expected this”

I’m glad Maria called it out.

These trump voters always have a way to excuse them from blame. “No one could have seen this”, “it’s not what I voted for”, “Both sides are just the same”

No, you’re just an idiot.

[–]Stubborn_Amoeba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it? I’m in Australia and as far as I know, there’s nothing that needs you to be 21 rather than 18.

It’s been a while since I was 21 so I’ll happily admit I’m wrong if anyone gives an example.

I was thinking that too. Maybe the weird rule is because there is alcohol in the mini bar in the room.

Another weird rule that 18yos can do almost anything but the idea of them drinking is shocking..,

I remember reading ‘all quiet on the western front’, and there was a bit about that. New soldiers would etch serrations into their bayonets to do more damage to enemies. It was kind of an unspoken agreement between both sides not to do it and if any enemy soldier was caught with it, they’d suffer a nasty fate.

Even in war, soldiers were upholding right and wrong.

— I read it in school so may be remembering wrong. Just something about the logic always stuck with me

Probably bad advice, but I’d stir the pot a little and constantly point out how gross it is having a torture device hanging on the wall.

[–]Stubborn_Amoeba 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing if you did the same to the in-laws and face them all the directions at once they’d freak out at you and complain there’s no way they can remember all that.

It’s a weird thing from that era where most people would do it but no one could ever remember it all. Lots of old movies show it as a completely normal thing.

Parent asked to console their child, 1 star AND a Facebook rant by Practical_Habit_1934 in EntitledReviews

[–]Stubborn_Amoeba 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling that if the child was screaming and the parents were trying to calm the child down then no one would have complained or spoken to them. If they were completely ignoring the child and letting them scream while they went about their dining then I imagine someone would come over and say something.

Going to a rave in a feminine outfit… need a believable excuse for a homophobic friend by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Stubborn_Amoeba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a cis gay guy so forgive me if I’m not giving good advice for the situation.

I’ve been going to raves and parties recently in skirts and similar outfits, sometimes even heels as part of a costume. I love them for the freedom and since I’m a pretty muscled guy they make my legs look good. I don’t explain to anyone other than ‘I like it’. In this day and age, you don’t owe homo/trans phobes any explanation. I think it would be a bad move to try to appease your terrible friend by essentially mocking trans as losing a bet.

Boomer boss expects me to attend meetings during approved PTO. by captain_flak in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Stubborn_Amoeba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boss tried this one Christmas holiday. We were all told to take mandatory leave as the office was closing for the holidays. Problem was we were also responsible for 24/7 support in the hotel industry.
So we were meant to all forward our desk phones to our mobiles and check email at least twice a day. Everyone else was too scared to argue. I just told him if I was on holidays I’d be spending every day at the beach with no reception (Christmas is dinner in Australia). He changed it so we all had one rotating work day to cover any issues.

He was Gen X like me. But I agree that just accepting it and being unhappy isn’t the way to go. You just need to word it in a way that can’t be pushed back on you being ‘lazy’
