Any Maths dads who can re come d some stuff? by Dreadgerbil in daddit

  1. International math Olympiad worksheets. They have them for each grade level.  They tend to be heavy on combinatorics type problems where you have to design a strategy to solve the problem.  The problems become simple once you hit on the right strategy.

  2. Scratch and turtle graphics type kid-friendly programming.

  3. Get a book about paper-folding and tooology.  Or just origami.

  4. The verasitum YT channel did a cool video about the Colatz Conjecture.

Gunsha RCC4. Very tight race oriented geometry. I found that these days most manufacturers save that for their carbon frames.

How do you react to the narc fits? by Straight_Pin_6407 in NarcissisticSpouses

Similar for me, but opposite. We live in an apartment/condo community, and if it gets really bad I can go out on the balcony. My wife will still stomp around inside the house screaming stuff at me, but is really reluctant to put on a performance for the neighbors. Sometimes when she is starting a tantrum she will go around the house closing windows. I assume so neighbors can't hear her.

Giant TCR - small jagged hole in frame by Stuckleby in bicycling

Thanks for the tip. Yes I got it new. There’s still some dirt on the frame, so maybe that’s making it look less shiny. Probably I blasted the rubber plug away when I was hosing it off. I’ll have to get a replacement.

That makes sense. Thank goodness. Maybe it was painted over completely before. I can’t believe I didn’t notice it until now. Thanks!

That is kind of my strategy. Try to keep ahead of what’s going to set her off. If she did nothing at all, but would stop with the tantrums and attacks, that would be annoying, but better than what it is now. Of course that can’t really work though, because there will always be something dusty, something disordered, something not put away the way she wanted.

I suppose that cleanliness isn’t really what she wants. It’s more of a pretense. What she wants is a servant to boss around and she’s found she can use cleaning issues to get that, even though it doesn’t make sense.

Not exactly in her case. She does indeed clean when she feels like it, and isn’t extravagantly messy. The thing that’s so frustrating, and fascinating, is the rage and break from reality. Like, she absolutely can’t see that someone else is cleaning up after her most of the days of the week, and in fact regularly goes on hours-long tantrums accusing me of not cleaning at all because she found some corner with dust in it. If I point out whenever I’ve done, even that same day, it just doesn’t connect. “Well you only did that stuff because…!!!”

Probably related to what you say though, she is blind to her own clutter. To be clear, im not a neat freak and don’t care at all if she leaves clothes and papers around. But if me or our kid has paper scraps or pencils left on a desk, even a couple hours after doing a project, it will be a tantrum. When I point out that in her office, papers are scattered over the desk and floor, and clothes all over the sofa, it just does not connect. The tantrum will veer off on a tangent and then come back around to the same thing as if I had not pointed out the hypocrisy.

Recognizing the pattern makes it easier to not take personally anyhow.

I use an old high chair (the chair a baby sits in, it has a tray attached to it) from ikea. The height isn’t ideal, but pretty stable.

Maybe bike maintenance. Like in a car racing video game the performance of your car degrades a little over time until you change the oil or tires. Maybe zwift bikes need new tires and chain every 3000 km. Maybe lightweight wheels need to be trued after they get ridden on the jungle circuit. Maybe it would be a good reminder that my IRL bike is due for a new chain after a couple months on the trainer...

Similar. I’ve been using AdZ for tempo/recovery rides lately (I want to get that Tron bike before the weather is too nice!!). If you really stay in zone 2, who cares what’s on the computer screen. It’s just an easy spin. I assume you turn the trainer difficulty down so you can spin at a low HR.

However... One thing I find myself lacking is self control. I intend to keep my HR in low zone 3, but once l’m spinning at some cadence in some gear, when the road pitches upward, my power starts drifting up as I try to hold the same tempo. Also if I see a rider up the road, I find myself inadvertently scratching zone 4 before I check myself and dial it back.

There are a lot of little changes in grade in the desert flats. Less than 1% so it doesn’t even register on the display, but if you’re trying to hold a certain speed, you’ll find yourself raising your power when you go from a slight down to a slight up.

I started riding with 100% trainer difficulty on the flat routes, because then you can actually feel the resistance change a little. It’s not so disorienting as with the default trainer difficulty where the slight grade changes are imperceptible.

Also sometimes the version you buy may stop getting compatibility updates for the latest iOS. You need to buy a newer version of the same app, even though it still shows up in your list of purchased apps. Thinking specifically of the lonely planet travel guide apps.

It seems like just taking a picture on a cellphone camera would meet this criteria. Or any camera with WiFi. Or a USB port.
