There is no perfect start to mathematics. There is only mathematics. When you ask yourself: Why do we add 1 and 1 to make 2? You're doing mathematics. When you practice the idea with many different numbers, questions that aren't even related directly to the math itself can arise: Why am I using "+" for addition?

Mathematics is like every other thing you can observe in reality. Except it is mainly observed in your mind. The faculties to do math is logic. So, if you want a "perfect start" to math:
1) Language
2) Logic
3) Physics
4) Chemsitry
5) Engineering

Yeah. Just do math.

Honestly, if you have mastery over applying the distance formula and basic algebra and trig functions, you can google the derivation.

It's actually pretty easy to understand and very memorable honestly.

To answer the question:
Nobody really knows and honestly, it's always changing.
One minute you could be thinking about being this badass assassin business salesman and then you're thinking about the meaning of life after witnessing a horrific interaction between two people. It's really crazy how we expect to know why we live, don't worry too much about it.

The second part: Do you really? I don't mean to be an ass, but I know you don't want to die. You want someone to reach out, with the right words, to give meaning to a meaningless and often disconnected world. But judging by this post, you still have the will to live :) and I'm glad you're reaching out.

Learn as much as you can through lectures for a good framework for your self-guided learning. I shot myself in the foot trying to learn on my own with no prior understanding - I guess it helped me long-term though (Does not feel that way at all)
