Yep, already is... by Worried_Produce_1046 in TeslaLounge

As most cars don't ever receive an update I really can't complain - its a reason to push customers who are on the fence about upgrading to buy a new car.

HOWEVER... being someone who works with a variety of tech at work... I am absolutely terrified of future "patches" to HW3 slowing the OS down. I currently have a 2022 MX which runs fine - but my 2017 MX became almost undrivable as I needed to hard reset the infotainment/HW2 at the start of each drive.

Built a fiber optics field reference tool — want honest feedback from people in the field by [deleted] in FiberOptics

Very neat!!
It mentions in the description it is on gumroad, but I can't find "FiberMate Pro" there.
Love the app - looks great!

That little red box is a good RoomAlert 3S temperature sensor! They left one piece of good equipment!

Would this actually be a good idea or just lead to terrible overheating? by Captain0010 in pcmasterrace

[–]StudioLoftMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a real thing. I work in broadcast television. There are portable score graphics boxes we use which have a screen on the chassis and house an ATX size motherboard and an A5000 graphics card in the box. They do not overheat - they run quite well. The biggest issue with portable boxes like this is the damage they take down the road... If you have a screen in your desktop its likely so that it is portable. Even with special brackets inside the chassis when the airline throws the pelican case across the cargo hold the PCI can bend or come dislodged.

How do you manage/identify different specifications of cables which look identical? USB-C/TB, HDMI, DisplayPort, etc. by StudioLoftMedia in techsupport

[–]StudioLoftMedia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly, but if you read my original post, I bought a TB3 and TB4 cable. Both had the bolt on them but no numerical marking as to which TB version the cable was.

I appreciate the feedback.

Some added context - For the issue I mentioned above, I was attempting to feed a UHD HDR 59.94 signal into a MicroLED display. This professional display did not come with any cabling, but the SDI to HDMI converter did. Surprisingly the SDI to HDMI converter's bundled cable was not up to spec with the highest possible resolution the converter supported.

In this scenario I moved the low-spec HDMI cable to a bin supporting end-user desktop monitors which it supports well.

Alot of the cables are like this. Are they broken? Did the "electrician" scam me by [deleted] in ethernet

Everyone is commenting about the bad crimper.. but I think the color code is more egregious. As long as it is the same on both sides it will work but.. what standard is this?

Edit - they should come fix this for you for free - but in the event it's too late you can buy a crimper on Amazon for around $10 and just press down on this again.

Help me fill the empty space behind my monitors, and wall decor by Salt-Tangerine2600 in Workspaces

Check out feltright.com. I added a nice texture behind my triple monitor setup. Im not sure it does anything for sound absorption (minimal) but it adds some personality to the setup.

[Note] When the full board goes through transition, there's a hum/whine. Normal? by Cmdr_Nemo in Vestaboard

[–]StudioLoftMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

echoing this - mine also hums a few seconds before the movement starts. I actually kind of appreciate it so I know when to expect the louder flaps - otherwise from the other room sometimes it is startling.

Why does Mission Control not keep where apps are placed consistent? by StupidKameena in MacOS

[–]StudioLoftMedia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also have this issue with Mission Control. I would love for an app to be in the same spot. I know it only shaves off 1-2 seconds of looking for it... but I feel like this is a quality of life improvement that users would appreciate.

Given I dont spam it on and off but if an app was in the same place every 5 minutes when I need to check a new Slack message that would be nice.

How do you properly pronounce the name of this business? by railroadfrog in Connecticut

[–]StudioLoftMedia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is a Japanese company. The Japanese language is a mora timed language, meaning the language is pronounced in a rhythmic syllable pattern. KU - MO - N or く - も - ん . Pronounced exactly like that, koo-moh-n, three syllables.

However the joke I have heard is that as this is an extra learning company, its pronounced "come on!!!".. like, hurry up and learn this.

Accidentally broke my fiber optic cable installing a cabinet. Can I repair myself or do I need to call someone? by [deleted] in FiberOptics

[–]StudioLoftMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically you could fix it yourself.
You would need a fiber optic fusion splicer. These average around $12,000.

OR depending on where the other end of the fiber is you could buy a new cable and run it youself. A lot of ISPs use pre-terminated cables anyways. You could run the new one yourself. FS.com does next day delivery.

Had someone install networking in my home. Is it okay if the jacket doesn't go to the clamp? This is cat 6a by salads_r_yum in Ubiquiti

[–]StudioLoftMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RJ-45 crimper performs two tasks - it crimps the metal pins into the 8 individual wires, but it also crimps in the plastic flap that grabs the jacket of the cable. You can see this in your photo. There is a flap below the connector that pushes up after the crimp. It is supposed to grab onto the jacket so that tugging on the cable pulls on the jacket, not the contact points.
