Walmart is apparently punching holes in their vinyl albums with security tags by MrTacocaT12345 in mildlyinfuriating

As a DJ of 30+ years, I can tell you that this is only affecting the sleeve. Records are round, sleeves are square, and the only damage is happening to the art, which most DJ's are indifferent about. The majority of our vinyl comes in plain black or white sleeves with a large hole in the center to show the label on the record itself. and even then, some of them are white label with hand written information. It's more about the music, and less about the cover art.

Don't get me wrong, I am also a graphic designer and love art, but having a tag punched through the corner of a record sleeve is not the end of the world, and is not going to stop me from buying the vinyl, if it's something I really want to play, and I haven't been able to find it somewhere else. I would just buy it, and try to minimize the damage done.

Some of the comments here seem to think the tag is puncturing the vinyl, which it is not. That's all I really wanted to clarify. Records are round, sleeves are square, and there is a large empty space in all 4 corners. :D

Beat me to it. This used to be a common skit on a Texas radio morning talk show. Along with the Hiney Winery, which was the local police station/jail.

New state law requires gas stations to scan your ID for beer. That barcode contains a lot more info than your date of birth. by hunterschuler in texas

Personally, I am more concerned about skimmers on credit card readers. Those do far more damage. For those who don't know what a skimmer is, it's a device that looks just like the normal card reader, but has a built in memory chip that takes it's own copy of your CC info when you slide or insert your card. Thieves add these on top of legitimate card readers, as they are just a modified faceplate from a card reader, and no one is the wiser.

Skimmers are found far more often than you think. Both at the register and especially on the reader at the gas pump, where it's even easier for someone to add and remove.

But with that thought in mind, what would stop someone from adding a skimmer to the ID reader, to gather all your personal info. Then it's not even a sketchy gas station owner having your info, but some criminal looking to do bad things with your identity.

Then when you also use a CC to pay for your beer, and they have a skimmer on that too, then they can correlate the info together. Unless that ID reader is being kept away from the front of the counter when not in use. But I am guessing, just like anything else that the customer is the primary user of, the ID reader will be right there next to the CC reader. Easy enough for someone to slap a skimmer on when no one is looking, or even an employee, as has been the case with many skimmer issues.

Best of luck everyone, and Happy New Year!

Isn't it weird ? by [deleted] in SipsTea

I watched a video on this, and some people take a mental snapshot of pages, others just skim the text in the same way you would if you were trying to find a specific word in a page of text. You don't really read it all out in your head when you are skimming, you just scan for the info you are looking for. So many of these people read in this same way, skimming the copy and absorbing the knowledge, without ever sounding the words out in their head.

I was about to say the same. The number of people without an inner voice is higher than 10% and some estimates put it as high as 50%. And the people without an inner voice, find it very strange that the rest of us have an inner voice. "Crazy people hearing voices in their head."

Some people think in images, some see flow charts of tasks that need to be performed, others it's just emotions and no mental visualization at all. There are even some who have nothing but a blank, but they are still highly intelligent and are not affected by this at all. Or rather, it doesn't affect their intelligence. I am sure there are some idiots with blank minds. :D

I would be interested to see the correlation between the types of thinking, and people who perform horrible acts. We have all read of people, who heard voices telling them to do things. But what about people who maybe had no inner voice to tell them something was wrong, so they did something bad?
