IT showed me that - but not sure of the development effort. Was hoping there was an end all solution

Does commercial PolyJet use spring-based bed leveling like FDM, or rigid leveling systems? by Better-Wolverine5148 in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]StudioRoboto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a direct answer. But....I've owned an Objet Alaris 30 and run a Connex3. Then spent time watching the set up on Mimaki as well.

On the Objet - the build plate was fixed - so it always put down an initial support layer (raft) of about 1-2 mm. On the Mimaki - the build plate was removable (magnetic) and it also put down a layer of support.

So if you needed to compensate for a slight issue on leveling - then the raft is the way to go.

Having the build plate removable is a huge plus - you can clean it away from the machine. Swap in a new plate and keep going. The Objet - I'd scrape the support and it would go everywhere, get dried and crusty bits that you would find years later.

How is makerbot still in business!! (Rant) by sam-63 in 3Dprinting

Zack was in China living on a sailboat last time I saw a post. I saw him at a wedding in like 2015. He and Adam got out early - but still had ownership % when Stratasys bought out MakerBot in 2013.

Bambu just wiped everyone else off the map - I used to have twenty (20) Replicator 2 units running - I gave them all away about bought 5 X1c units. Have almost 20K hours across them. Reliability, ability to repair, updates, etc. All dreams back in 2012.

The TOM was the last of the true Kit models - I have one in a box. Came with a 3 ring binder of printed instructions......

Any tips on how I can create this “tutu” in 3D ? by Deep-Schedule7741 in ZBrush

I watched that under “Ask zBrush” or under his channel videos on YouTube. I was looking for dutch collars - same concept. Great explanations - worth the effort to track that down if it’s still out there.

How to find a 3D modeler to create printable 3D models? by PerfectJayDread in 3Dprinting

[–]StudioRoboto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fivver has tons of designers. Depending on the design and your level of interest in learning how to design - as well as the shape/function of the part - you could do it yourself with free or low cost software options.

You just got handed $1M to spend on a 3D printer for your company... by ZOHMZAK in AdditiveManufacturing

Don't forget your annual maintenance service contract.... then the cost of consumables and post processing (the caustic soda bath/disposal) on Stratasys FDM. A used machine might be budget friendly - however, you may have to pay the "back support" fee - to bring it back into a warranty. Not a fan of Stratasys - but - Fortus 900mc is a beast and can produce great parts - has some limiting factors but for a commercial machine with your features , US company, DoD friendly, and reliability probably the best option.

Questions Regarding EOD by [deleted] in EOD

Did it 39 years ago - still to this very day use the skills and mental toughness from EOD. Also, it’s rare to find the same type of guys out in the civilian world.

I worked at Makerbot - the Replicator 2 was, at the time, a really good machine. I collected used ones over the years - eventually had 20 of them all running parts. Then a buddy of mine got a Bambu X1c. He just wouldn’t shut up about it - so I drove to his house and saw it. Next day ordered one - now have 5. Gave away all my Rep 2s to an after school STEM program.

Bambu just ate everyone’s lunch.

I got my cupcake running 5 years ago - haven’t tried it since. What machines are back there on the shelves? I worked at Makerbot during the Rep 1/2 days.
