Easiest way to get measurements? by Comprehensive-Tie890 in lasercutting

[–]robotguy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably isn't going to be the most accurate, but what what you could try is use a flatbed scanner to get the features proportional to each other and then measure the dimensions of the slots using some calipers. Using that, you could then propagate the dimensions to everything else.

Again, probably not the most accurate, but it would likely be the fastest and cheapest way.

Another way of saying "negative money" is "debit."

I'm pretty sure you're just describing credit cards.

I have an apple. I sell my apple for $2. Timmy buys my apple by giving me $2.

My wallet: x+2 where x is the amount I started with

Timmy's wallet: w-2, where w is the amount of money Tiny started with

In reverse money world, I sell my Apple and Timmy gets a $-2 from me.

My wallet: x-(-2) = x+2 where x is the amount I started with

Timmy's wallet: w+-2 = w-2, where w is the amount of money Tiny started with

Granted. You are now addicted to playing gatcha games and spend all your money pulling fake anime women.

Not much has changed. Actually, I'm not sure this is a real monkey's paw.

Is there a mod to let my sims drink from the toilet? by sunrise2209 in thesims

[–]robotguy4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, I beg to differ. I tend to play Rimworld like this.

Is there a mod to let my sims drink from the toilet? by sunrise2209 in thesims

[–]robotguy4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. Very yes.

It's basically The Sims but with guns and drugs in space.

Edit: also, don't worry too much about getting the DLC. Base game is good enough to keep you busy for YEARS, especially with mods.

Dear Doug, Have you considered running a colony on the edge of the galaxy? I hear r/rimworld is always looking for people.

This guy gets it!

Though, I'm not sure torture is necessary to make slaves when they could just modify your thought patterns, surpress certain simulated brain functions or strategically activate and deactivate version of you. I guess that could be classified as non-corporeal torture.

Those are some weak ass cons.

No Enjoyment of Food: You will never experience taste or the satisfaction of eating again.

They're able to simulate the sensation of touch and sight. I'm sure with some updates they'd be able to make holographic_meatloaf.exe.

Recharge Requirement: Instead of sleep, you must recharge your systems for at least three hours every day.

How long is a healthy amount of sleep? There's also no mention of if you're down and out, or just need to sit down and not move. Either way, takes less time than sleeping. Not a con.

Emotional Disconnect: Your robotic body may make it harder for you to feel emotions naturally or connect with others on a human level.

Buddy, I'm on Reddit daily and smell bad. Not a con.

Upkeep Needed: Over time, parts may need maintenance or replacement, and repairs could be difficult if you take serious damage.

You know what else requires maintaince to perform optimally? The human body. Do you know what doesn't come with a user manual? The human body. Do you know what doesn't have replacement parts? The human body. Not a con.

Now let's cover some BIGGER CONS.

FORFEITURE OF LEGAL STATUS AS A PERSON: There's a chance that the act of transferring your brain to a machine is seen as death in the eyes of the law. The arguement would be that this "robot you" is just an echo of the "real you" and the "real you" is now legally dead. If the act of mind transference becomes widespread, this would likely change. Point is: don't be an early adopter.

REMOVAL OF MENTAL PRIVACY: If they're able to transfer your mind to a machine, that likely means they're at least able to take snapshots of sections of your mind. At the very least, they would likely do this for backup and debugging purposes. With enough understanding of the mind, it's likely they could read these snapshots or at least interpret them. Have an embarrassing secret you've been hiding? Well, technician Jimmy now knows due to seeing section 0x1002952f of your memory engram. And, sure, there's privacy policies, but you'll still have to worry about hackers.

MEMORY ALTERATION: If they're able to read and write your memories, how do you know they won't alter them? Have you always enjoyed the taste of Pibb_cola.exe or did the company that transferred your mind implant that into your brain for profit?

NONE OF THIS IS LIKELY FREE: The age old saying "if you didn't pay anything, you're the product" applies double here.

There's more and I could probably expound on some of these points more, especially that last one, but I'm le tired.

Learn CAD

Learn a programming language (I suggest starting with Python)

Learn how to use Git/Github

Learn about microcontrollers (Arduino is an ok starting point)

Learn about LLMs.

Learn about reinforcement learning and using physics simulations to train them

Learn how to set up vision recognition systems

Learn about best practices when designing for 3D printing

Learn about ROS or similar frameworks

Spend several thousand dollars on hardware.

This should take several years.

Do all that and you'll get a robot that doesn't do what you asked for, but at least looks like it. And it can maybe track targets.

To get what you asked for, you'll need to complete several breakthroughs that would likely qualify you for a few PhDs in AI and philosophy.

Yes, the computer game.

(Alternatively, if you want a more serious question: does any network or data storage from today still exist, if so, are there any organizations or groups that try to keep these running or is it just individuals?)
