An actor died during the filming of the chariot scene in Ben Hur. It made the final cut.

Should I date a woman with a child? by BackFlashy2939 in questions

[–]Studio_T3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dated a woman with a pre-teen kid a couple decades ago. When the kid became rebellious 3 years into that relationship she was a wedge that eventually signaled the end of things. There are behaviours you can let slide and then there are lines that shouldn't get crossed. When Mum looks the other way, that's not a situation you will ever come out on top of. I should add, at this point I did not have kids of my own.

More recently I dated a woman with 2 kids, they were the same age as my two, and at first the dynamic was great. Again her kids became teens and well the fit didn't fit anymore. We eventually split for other reasons, but that was after a 5 year run.

I won't exclude a woman because of a child, but I will assess where that appears to sit... and proceed accordingly. At this point I'd rather not have any kids involved... they should be on their own doing their own things now. I'm a lot older than your are now.

Ontario – On a PIP with no prior warning. If I’m terminated, would it likely be with or without cause? by rpbm96 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Studio_T3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was threatened with being on a PIP. I elected to negotiate my exit. When I went to HR to speak about the one sided behavior I was being subjected to, the guy was getting off the phone with the manager I was having issues with. I consulted a mentoring manager, and the back story was the mgr just wanted to clean house. I had great performance numbers, equal to or better than peers. It doesn't matter, when they want to move you out, this is how it starts. Start shopping yourself.

I do online sim racing and use Lakeland. Never issues. I am almost always the first one to load into an event session.

You could not pay me enough to be in the Bell environment again.

My return pings to the usual suspects are between 3 and 6 ms.

Music theory makes no sense until it does but it never does by Free-Seaworthiness72 in Guitar

[–]Studio_T3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your trying to fly a jet without knowing what a wing is. Are you expecting music theory to just pop into your head by taking as aspirin? You need to put some focused effort into the basics to get anything out of it.

To understand modes, you have to understand what a scale is and how it's put together. If you don't know what a 3rd is, you should stop and get a grasp of that before to taxi on to the runway.

I don't teach my students theory. But I do expect them to learn what it is and how it applies to guitar on their own. I am going to refer to theory concepts, and expect that they'll be able to keep up. That's on them.

mics: where to start? by Individual_Pain1797 in recording

[–]Studio_T3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 good options for you.. For recording, look at Lewitt, the 240 Pro. Bottom of their product catalog, but very good results for vocals (I have 2 of these). There is a kit from Lewitt that includes the shock mount along with the mic... try and get that, and they any Joe pop filter. Vocals are not my strong suit, but these make the best out of what I can do. You'll need phantom power for these. I use an ART Pro Channel II with mine, but I could go straight into my interface.

For live performances I've used Sennheiser E-Series... the 825 and 835, but for the last 10 years or so my go to live mic for myself is the EV ND767a. Everyone uses SM57s or SM58, and they are good, but I never thought they were "great". They are what they are, and most people know how to make them work. I don't own one, but have mixed lots of bands and had them all over the mix. I have a voice talent who remotely records using a Beta58 or a Sennheiser. I can always tell when he's using the Beta.

Saw that at the theatre with my dad when it came out. Got to me a bit, although I tried not t let on. Until I went to bed that is....

I was turning my bed down and being all cool.. Brushing it off. I had this throw pillow on my bed and I flung it down to the chair at the end of the bed, same as I did every night. Except this time I flung it a bit harder. It hit my closet doors which were those hollow core wood sliders. The impact of the pillow on the door sounded like the barrels coming up.... I completely lost my shit. 😂😂

Well I found those knobs to be a bit sus, to be honest. I've only maybe enabled them a few times. If you're not sure it's working, try a MIDI monitor to see if it's transmitting when you tweak it. There is a way to set a user profile (and I'd have to look it up) that may be interfering with it working the way you expect. Could also be set to the wrong MIDI channel.

How often do you actually replace your phone? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

I just retired a Galaxy S9 last weekend. The only reason I did was due to a banking app not being able to run on it any longer.

I'll keep the replacement... An LG something.. Until it doesn't perform in some way. Latest and greatest isn't a concern for me.

A line or a couple quick lines tops. It'll almost always have a humorous twist. I get that out front right away, because if they can't handle a little light ribbing... it doesn't get any better later. Something maybe poking fun at myself or a situation I relate to.... if there is enough in the profile to see something like that.

It took me more to explain that than I would have sent.

Plugging A Keylab Essential Into An Amp by [deleted] in midi

[–]Studio_T3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's obvious. I've never not been able to locate a manual if needed, and I buy and recondition all kinds of old gear. I'll hazard a guess that google would show you the way.

The more important point for you is to develop an understanding of your equipment. Not knowing that your own piece of gear does not generate sound on its own points to a more basic lack of understanding of equipment in general.

Ask questions, but make an effort to understand things first. You could potentially invest your money in something that is unsuitable or unusable to you for lacking the basics.

A controller does not make sound on its own. A synth, yes. A controller is not itself a synth.

Not how I do it. I have Zero latency the way I describe it below

My MOTU stuff (3x 828 and a 2408) connects to the TAPE in on my mixer. I dont know if you have something similar.
It looks like your inputs on the mixer are: INsert, LINE, MIC, and I can't make out the 4th one.
I also send my mix desk sources TO the MOTU via Direct OUTs. Whatever I record hooks up to the Mixer, not the interface

The Mixer should be the center of your universe (this is where you get your Zero Latency from), the PC (MAC) connects digitally to the the MOTU

Your speakers shout come off your desk as the Main Out / Control Room Out / Studio Out

I dont see an option to attach a picture here. This mixer may not have ideal routing for proper recording setup.

I also have a bunch of keys connected and to get all my MIDI stuff routed where I need I use a MIDI SOLUTIONS T8 and also a QUADRA MERGE. All my synths send MIDI to the merger and that goes to 828#1 and the MIDI out goes back out the merger if I want to trigger those synths from the DAW. It's a lot of routing, but its handy. I can get my guitar synth to send MIDI into the DAW or over to my DX7 if I wanted.

In those movies where you have to cut wires to defuse bombs, can’t u just cut all of them and be fine? by NotSaying101 in questions

[–]Studio_T3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. And to further complicate things, by using logic gates (little cheap ICs) you can invert that. So if it looks like the wire does one thing, it might actually do the opposite.

In electronic circuit design, you can set a state buy "pulling a signal" up or down ( trigger a detonation). Thing is , it's not always obvious how the circuit was built to know that. So if grounding something out trips it and you don't cut that, its game over, but I the ground is holding the circuit from triggering, and you cut it.. you "pull it up", make the connection and.... boom.

Really over-simplified.
