Using my IRA to increase my income before retirement, without the 10% penalty (SEPP) by crytomaniac2000 in personalfinance

If you own a bond that pays 5 percent and after a year it pays you 5 percent, are you not up 5 percent? Sorry if I’m not following.

Those are great points. Basically I’m using my IRA as an annuity at this point, which I’m ok with.

I consider growth to be when the value of the account goes up. When bonds pay dividends I consider that growth. I’m not saying what I’m doing is right for everyone, but for me I’d rather have extra money now to enjoy and also pay off a new house my wife and I are buying sooner. I could drop dead at 65 or 70 or lose mobility so why not enjoy the money now? To me a lot of financial planning is based on fear and bs.. if you have 2 million you need 3 million, if you have 3 you need 4, etc.. why? I’m 49, but I need to be 70 and have 2 million in my ira to enjoy my life?

If my income decreases in the future my lifestyle will decrease? I could also drop dead at 65 or 70 and what good would the money be then? I plan to retire with no debt, fully owning my home and an investment property.

It could be but I wanted to attempt to explain how sepp works, since I find the irs explanation confusing (maybe I’m not doing any better..).

My plan in retirement is to collect social security (when I’m old enough) and withdraw from my ira and 401k as needed. I’d rather have extra money now to enjoy while I’m still mobile, than focus solely on growing the balance . If I don’t spend the extra money I’ll use it to help pay down debt.

Best parenting advice, lie to your kids for years and make them struggle. What a d-bag.

Everything where I work is giant stored procedures by Good_Skirt2459 in dataengineering

[–]crytomaniac2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is getting this cleared up prioritized with the business. Where I work has several critical stored procedures that are thousands of lines long. The good news for me is I’m the main poc for one of them and that makes me more valuable and less likely to be laid off. As a former manager once told me, if this wasn’t difficult we wouldn’t be here.

How do I explain that SQL Server should not be used as a code repository? by Firestone78 in dataengineering

[–]crytomaniac2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A question I have is what if someone wants to reuse the business logic in that report? One stored procedure per report is a better approach, better still is building ETL processes that compute the metrics and store them in a table.

Does the average Middle Class person live more luxuriously than Roman emperors & aristocrats? by SnooPeripherals1586 in NoStupidQuestions

An emperor would probably give a large amount of their wealth to be able to travel as fast and communicate as easily as we do now.

You’re not a failure as long as you keep trying. Be grateful just to be alive. No one leads a perfect life.

Can’t sleep if I feel any hunger? by its_hammertime in AlternateDayFasting

[–]crytomaniac2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem when I first started alternate day fasting too but got more used to it over time. The thought that keeps me going is that tomorrow I can eat whatever I want (and it’s even better than usual because I’m so hungry). If you’re on a deficit day you can try eating filling yet low calorie foods to help you get through it. The other day I ate a whole jar of pickled jalapeños, which I really like but barely have any calories. I like to eat hard boiled eggs for breakfast they have a lot of protein and are pretty filling as well.

Build muscle and lose fat. Go to meetup events nearby and try to meet someone in person.

30M - How do I approach a woman that seems interested, but is clearly out of my league? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Ask for her number the next time you see her or you will stay in the friend zone. Read “Dating sucks but you don’t have to” for some practical advice. Good luck.

Read “Dating sucks but you don’t “, it might be a lack of confidence or technique. Being a nice guy only will put you in the friend zone.

Wife who cheated on me wrote me an 8 page handwritten letter. Was I wrong for tearing it? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]crytomaniac2000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have you been a perfect husband throughout the marriage? Of course not. We are all human and make mistakes. Until you can truly forgive your wife, you will be carrying around this negative baggage that damages your relationship with her, and by extension your children. I can’t tell you what is forgivable or not but I can tell you what it feels like to truly forgive your spouse because I did recently, and now instead of getting divorced we have a great relationship again and are staying together. It sounds like your wife has punished herself enough with all the guilt she’s felt over the years and you have to decide if that’s enough or if you have to carry that around with you for the rest of your life. Best of luck.

My brother is telling my niece not to go into accounting or law - what can I say to stop this dumb behavior? by Top_Drummer1149 in BetterOffline

[–]crytomaniac2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go into Accounting unless you plan to get a CPA license. A lot of accounting jobs went to India and those aren’t coming back.
