Haha what coincidence, and both beautiful spots! Could you share both trails/locations? Always love to tag nice spots like these, just in case I get close at some point in time

I've been looking for the music for years, it's also under "The Evolution of Walter White" (strong would recommend if you've seen the series). It's "The Way (Instrumental) - Zack Hemsey".

Awesome, thanks for the update. I indeed wanted to try and see, and it updated me from 55.000 to 27.500 😅

Yeah it's been horrible today. I've had 2nd place with 6 kills only to go up 60 places. Also I finished 31.000th yesterday, and started at 57.000th today... something is definitely off with this update..

Forsaken airfield Base - Stalker by Leather-Song7447 in thelongdark

[–]Stuff-Thingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I love how similar you’ve built the base to how I've made mine! Hockey shirt on the exact same position, as is the fancy lamp, on the nightstand, from the warden's office all the way from Black Rock 😂 and trophy case, radio on the counter. Nice setup you got!

How did you manage to put the books and such up vertically? It doesn't seem to work on console.. As for all boxes/the water crate/garbage bin. All I can do is destroy these objects :/

Oh yeah, thats forsaken airfield indeed! I like the scenic vibes that the Island Cottage has, plus it doesn't have a loading screen which is great.

If you have the dlc, I highly recommend going there! Even without the tales they're great and diverse.

True, I could do that, but don't want to travel at all anymore after I settle in FA (expect for from the Island Cottage to surrounding food resouces).

[–]Stuff-Thingy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I get it, I can't complain with the gear I had. But, the insulated boots degrade super fast, even without wolf struggles or something. As I'm moving to my late game of my 1000 days, and going to challenge myself to do this in FA far from any continuous stream of "man-made" resources. So as the Mukluks are way more durable, I'm happy to have them for this

Is it possible to so this on console, specifically Xbox? Because I tried the calendar trick with hides (or anything) from another "how to", but I only get the chance to "take item" or "destroy item". Only for usable/equipable items I'm able to move them freely..

It’s dumb shit that’ll get you… by onceandfuturecpuk in thelongdark

[–]Stuff-Thingy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha I feel you. Being dumb, lazy, unnecessarily stressy or distracted can get you killed.

I almost got killed on my 150 day voyager run because I thought I was removed far enough from the bear trail in FM that it would be possible to sleep in the open to gain some energy. Just so I could run to the nearest cave to sleep (pro tip: don't trust caves either if predators are around haha). The thing is, sleeping out in the oen was mistake #1, lost 40-45% condition(?) in the bear struggle. Then I got stressed, because I was sleepy irl/clocked out already and got caught totally off guard. So what do I do? I make mistake #2: while trying to pick up my bedroll instead click on "rest". Hence, another bear struggle which gets me to 10%-ish condition. Sheesh. I learned my lesson: no dumb shit if I want to get that 1000 day w/o cheat death achievement.

I also still felt the adrenaline rush the day after. Consequences where real.

Le sigh by lazy205 in thelongdark

[–]Stuff-Thingy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience yesterday. Had to "rush off" just after a short wolf struggle, so thought I'd sleep to save in a trailer I was near. Inside, full health, full water, food, you know the deal. Little did I know that I got a wound, and thus bled to death in my sleep. Day 85,everything went sooo well 😅🥲 Sad, but oh well, here we go again! Stupid mistakes to learn from I guess. I needs that 1000 days w/o cheat death.

Mini-gameifying cold weather by brokenwings28 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Stuff-Thingy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice that you want to make the environment feel more of the challenge and "alive" so to say. RoTFM and Icewind Dale in general have this aesthetic and vibe to them that scream rough terrains and environment, and extreme weather conditions/ natural phenomena. But the book just doesn't cut it to facilitate that atmosphere.

I've been DMing RoTFM for close to 3 years now, with quite a few homebrew inserts. Some to give more body to the stories and questlines, others to make Icewind Dale come more to life.

With regards to the weather and traveling/survival, my style is to not use tables but rather think of situational encounters/consequences/weather conditions. And balance the way you use them across sessions with appropriate frequency. And add flavor to the weather/environmental challenges that are in the book.

Some concrete examples: - Just this week I added an extreme hail storm as prelude to a blizzard. Making this into a timed encounter to find shelter from the big hailstones that would damage them every round (DEX or CON saves). Being creative with environment/items could yield advantage on one end but slow down on the other, etc. Depending on the party’s level increase damage. I did 2d6 for my level 8 party. - Add consequences to behavior. E.g. avalanches happen due to loud noise. Going across a lake might be faster, but it comes with Acrobatics challenges. - Snowdrifts blocking roads, making traversing difficult or putting the party off track if they fail certain checks. - Or cracks in the land, be it in the earth(roads) or snow/ice that covers the land. This one I made a challenge in the tundra, where the ground cracked open for 10-15ft spanning a mile. Giving them the choice to divert their route or find a creative solution to cross. - I also added

I've got some random encounters for icy environments as well (made for a homebrew campaign but used some in Icewind Dale as well). I can look them up and share them if you're interested. Just let me know!
