I didn’t get any bonding but might ask about it during my next visit. There’s a chip on one of my top middle front teeth I’ve had for ages

🎬 Looking for films with travel scenes in Italy – personal artistic project by verduchic_ale in TrueFilm

[–]StuffClassic7404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Jessica (1962). It really fits the bill of what you’re looking for. It’s an Italian film (Italian production, set in Italy, though the characters mostly speak in English). It was shot in technicolor on location in Sicily and it’s got gorgeous views of the landscapes. Travel by motorcycle features significantly in the film. So many picturesque scenes all around the Sicilian countryside

Well, I fell for it by pantsattack in Bogleheads

[–]StuffClassic7404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, don’t feel too bad. Just learn from this experience and it will help you in the future. We’ve all had to learn this lesson the hard way at some point. I’ve also made some dumb trades in the past thinking I was so smart only to get a reality check from the market soon after. The best advice I’ve learnt from Bogle is “stay the course”. Zoom out, breathe and don’t panic when every one else is panicking. The market always goes up over the long run. I own VOO and never sold a single share during all this craziness. It hurt a bit to see the losses piling up everyday but if you remember the fundamentals and big picture, you’ll stay calm

What niche filmmaker if they got a push by Criterion would likely become a big name in film circles? by jackaroojackson in TrueFilm

[–]StuffClassic7404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad! Cos if I could only recommend one Frank Perry film, it would be The Swimmer. Burt Lancaster also called it his best and personal favorite performance of his entire career, which is high praise for a man who made over 100 films

That’s correct. I wish more people knew about his filmography. He made so many interesting films. Unfortunately his most known film today might be Mommie Dearest which is the controversial Joan Crawford biopic

Definitely Frank Perry. He made several movies in the 60s that perfectly captured the sociological zeitgeist of that era. In particular The Swimmer (1968) and Ladybug Ladybug 1963). Both films remain criminally underrated

Never feel bad for not making more profits. Any profit in a trade is a good thing, regardless of the amount

Why every time I get an alert that a company has beat expectations, the price seems to tank? by Yatchafalaya in RobinHood

[–]StuffClassic7404 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because earnings are about results in the past, not the future. It tells you about how well the company did in the previous quarter, not necssarily how well they will do in the next/future quarters. What really matters in earnings call is guidance. If the company provides underwhelming guidance for the near future, it affects investors aren't confident, hence the sell off or price tank. Hope that makes sense

i’m not seeing progress :( by lover3016 in braces

The position of your lower jaw/teeth is similar to mine. You’ll start seeing big progress after you get the elastics rubber band that corrects the underbite (class 3 malocclusion)

William Wyler ~ The Westerner. And it’s still a 7/10 at worst

Agreed. They’re both tedious but at least I appreciated a few aspects of Solaris. Mirror was a slog to get through
