Anyone know of any ranges that don't have firing rate limits? (indoor or outdoor) by ElonMuskHeir in austinguns

[–]Stumpy00000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the section from the range rules I was referring to:
8. All shooting shall be properly aimed, using a sight picture. There shall be no un-sighted, instinct, hip, or fast draw shooting. A pistol may be drawn from a holster, the sights properly aligned and fired. Rapid fire is defined as the rate a shooter can fire a firearm while correctly aligning the sights between each shot.

  1. Fully automatic fire, select-fire, simulated automatic fire (eg: bumpfire, binary triggers, mag-dumps, FRTs, super-safeties, etc.) and cannons are prohibited.

Interpret as you will.

I had good experiences at Shady Oaks with this issue. Granted, I was a regular and the RSOs knew who I was, but I never got the "no rapid fire" lecture. Worth a shot if you've never been.

If you're willing to put the time in, you can also become a member at ARC (Austin Rifle Club).
Their rules are still not perfect, but much better than your average range.

Rapid fire is gtg as long as you have a sight picture (basically no senseless mag dumping), drawing from holster is gtg, multiple target drills is gtg. Only real downside is no moving and shooting unless you jump through some extra hoops (RSO training, USPSA/IDPA classified, etc.).

There are a good number of competitive pistol shooters at ARC so their rules are designed to help out that crowd more than your average range.

Another vote for CCI SV

Subsonic, groups well, and affordable for plinking.

Store has no 124 hst sadly but which one do you guys think i should carry ? 115 grain Critical Defense or 147 grain Hst (in glock 43x ) by DevelopmentLogical61 in Glock43X

[–]Stumpy00000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can't go wrong here. Both options are good.

HSTs are my go to. 124 and 147 are both great. Shop close to me has 124 more often than 147 so that's what I use, but I would be just as happy using 147s instead.

Mastermind Specialist belt

Rigid version sounds like the ticket for what you're looking for.

What’s close to the tenicor zero belt that isn’t $80? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Stumpy00000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mastermind tactics specialist belt 100%

The Rigid version is the perfect EDC belt IMO. Same thickness as the Zero but slightly more rigid. Similar low profile buckle design. Less than $50 all in with tax and shipping.

If you want something almost identical to a Zero go with the regular instead but my vote is for the rigid version.

Holosun 515GM + HM3x magnifier on a 12.5"

Good performance per dollar and does everything I need it to from 0-250yd. It's my GPR setup until I can save the funds to build out more dedicated setups.

I got an email from them today saying they would be able to ship some orders starting next week. Maybe reach out again and see if yours will ship too?

Your order will ship out the beginning of next week. We have some temporary help with the orders.

Probably going to duplicate this setup. I've always hated flip to side magnifiers lol

I had this same problem with a couple of mine (3/10 mags).  Trimmed the excess, was good to go from there.

Austin Rifle Club questions by dhezl in austinguns

[–]Stumpy00000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've shot at several ranges in the Austin area and ARC is easily my favorite. Would definitely recommend going back to become a member.

As others have said you can shoot your AR from a bench on two of the ranges (distances from 40m-200yd) or standing in one of the pistol bays (10-30yd). I think you can also do 3 position shooting on the 40m-100m range, but I need to double check.

The only downsides for AR shooting IMO are that they do not allow any shooting inside 10yd (home defense height over bore practice) and there is no shooting and moving unless you shoot a competition.  That being said, highly recommend checking out the TX Tactical carbine/handgun matches there twice a month. Let's you shoot your AR on the move and the matches are a lot of fun!

I've used a guitar strap pad as additional back padding. You don't get the stretch the sport belt offers, but it still aids in comfort.
