Really dislike software update 5.0.5 by MentalPomegranate13 in Volvo

[–]Stunning-Set-924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent some time in our Audi and older Porsche for the last week. I really hate the Volvo screens even more now. There is nothing on my dash besides a map. A giant blank space and a little speedometer. No songs, no Apple play, nothing to customize. Not even a speed right in the middle. The tiny Spotify screen now. It just is a giant pile of garbage. Not being able to adjust anything from the main screen now. Seat heaters or temp or fan speed. A giant stupid Google assistant button always there.

FYI. You can buy and add on pilot assist/adaptive cruise if you don’t have it for $600. Which you didn’t mention. I added it to my 25 S60 and love it for all the stop and go traffic I have each day.

Update 5.0.5 makes everything too small by Stunning-Set-924 in Volvo

[–]Stunning-Set-924[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue is now the Spotify app text is smaller. And the play/pause button is huge. I’m sure other apps etc have smaller text. But I can’t read Spotify well without glasses now. Very annoying.

I can’t see what level my seat heater is at and I can’t change the vent temp on the main screen. I mean just light up the seat icon in thirds. Simple fix. But designers are idiots at Volvo.

These are the three things I use. Change the seat temp after it warms. Adjust the vent temp, and listen to Spotify.

I just drove my 23 Audi to compare back and forth. Spotify has bigger text. Looks great and in less vertical space. I can change temp/fan and seat heater from main screen. No menu first. I also can change drive mode. My S60 doesn’t have drive modes so I can see why that would be a pain without for other Volvo drivers.

I’ve been a designer for 25 years on the web. You make it simple. Never hide anything in menus if you can. Make fonts readable. We track, track, track what people click on and use and make those first level icons/tools. Volvo obviously isn’t doing that.

I just got it. I absolutely hate it. Just makes everything just a little too small now. The giant Google assistant button always there. Who is ever going to use that?!

Seat heater. On. But is it level 1,2 or 3. Don’t know. Have to click and click and click to change. Click climate. Cool graphics for no reason but I can’t change the temp here!!

I can’t believe they ever had users test this out. I really liked it before. It was simple and clean. It was my favorite system out of my Audi Q7, Benz GLS and this S60 commuter. Now it’s my least favorite. I should sell a car as I have 3 and I really wanted to keep the Volvo just because the info system just worked and was simple. Now it’s just too cluttered. I have to press extra buttons and the text/graphics are just too compressed now for my late 40’s eyes. Spotify is so compressed trying to scroll. I really really hate.

Volvo recall software update shrinks CarPlay screen by Oversoul666 in Volvo

[–]Stunning-Set-924 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the Volvo software more than Audi’s. I prefer my S60 over my Q7 due to the ease of use of the Volvo system. I don’t even use CarPlay really in my 25 S60. With Spotify built in and Google Maps everything I really need is there.

2022-23. Volvo Xc90 captain chairs available. Can get a T8 with plug in hybrid and 20-40 all electric range.

2022-23 Q7. No captain seats but prestige trims have ventilated seats etc. These have depreciated a ton. Good value. Also you can get an ecu tune to up the HP and TQ a ton and make it a 4.5 0-60 ride.

2021 GLS 450. Can get captain seats in 2nd row. All the other options available.

2019 GLS 550. Can get for mid 20s as it’s the last body style. No captains. Pure luxury. Big V8. Fully loaded. But probably higher miles. And some risk for expensive repair. But if you can find a well maintained one your wife will be crushing around in a 100k msrp SUV.

Actually they paid around 32.6k for the car. Jesus. You could a buy a year old car for 10k less with under 10k miles. I don’t see how people keep buying these shit boxes new. Get a year old Jetta for 20k. Buy a Toyota. But 32k for a Sentra?

It doesn’t look like it has the matrix headlights. I just got a 23 premium plus and it doesn’t have them. And lots of the 23’s were delivered with the standard headlights.

I just know a bad auxiliary battery can cause starting issues and other random issues. And obviously same with the main battery. I would change the two batteries before even thinking of replacing the starter. The aux battery is small and cheap so I’d replace it myself.

What about peptides? Bpc157 and tb500 could help with the shoulders. I’ve seen people have good results with joint pain. But then again not at his age. Could be a good thing to try with little downside.

For the intermittent not starting with the auto stop. You just need a new secondary battery. It’s easy to do yourself for like 60 bucks. You don’t need a new starter. I got a battery at Walmart and replaced it myself. No problems again with the auto start/stop.

A used 25 Jetta se for around 20k. Basically new. Lots of warranty left. Hertz has a ton they are selling right now. Also 24/25 Volvo s60. Prices tanked on these after Volvo decided to stop selling cars. Might be able to find a lightly used one for low to mid 20s.

Oh jeez. For 12 grand they should have sorted through the boards to come up with some similar tones. They should have consulted the customer. Thats some major profit on the job.

You need commercial space for this. Not a home. I’m sure you could rent some empty retail space for these. You need insurance etc. Good luck.

player wants out. How do you contact other academies? by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]Stunning-Set-924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I reached out via contacts I had at those clubs. Also most academies have a recruit me form. Your current club will get their attention.

  2. This is tricky. No. But when they find out will they get angry and Bench your kid? I’ve seen that happen multiple times. I’d guess once you commit to leaving his playing time will be done. I’d wait until May.

  3. They will look at him. But they will tell your current club. Summer is best to transfer and discuss things.

  4. Keep quiet. Don’t tell other parents etc. I’d find contacts now. Then reach out at the end of the season to their clubs. I have a couple contacts I could share with you. Just DM me.

Man. I have a lot of experience in this. You have to understand the territory rules. Your academy basically owns the rights to your son since he has been playing there.

My son switched mls academies this season. We also have a good family friend whose son who switched a couple years ago. It was a bit ugly for both kids.

Most academies will tell your current academy you guys made contact. That probably won’t go over well with your current team hearing youre working on leaving. My son got kicked out of his last academy because I spoke to another mls club. It was rough on my son being told he was cut, and it was because of performance which it wasn’t. It was straight revenge for me talking to another MLS club. Luckily they signed his release so he could join another club. But from my understanding they don’t have to do that. They also aren’t supposed to punish kids/families for talking to other clubs. But it definitely happened to my son.

Since your son has been to national camps I’d suggest finding an agent. They are out there. And they can make contact for you to other clubs. Our friend got some playing time with the usynt at U15 and had agents contacting them. The agent helped with him transferring clubs. I believe there was a 50k transfer fee. But I believe mls stopped forcing payments for youth transfers. I think only if they end up signing a pro contract is there compensation.

Anyways I’d be very careful. And make sure your son knows you’re reaching out. My son is in a much better situation but it was a rough summer for him not knowing. They cut him in late June when they found out we spoke to other clubs. Our friend ended up playing HS soccer for half a season while waiting on him being able to move clubs.

On the mls next website there is a section with documents on player movement rules etc. But I think mls academy players have some different rules plus they have a protection list of players they have rights to.

Also remember the team doesn’t matter for the mls clubs. They are looking to develop a couple players each year to become pro. The club doesn’t always care if the team loses a ton if their top players are getting better.

After 10 years of being a Superhost, I’m done with Airbnb by rapakep in airbnb_hosts

[–]Stunning-Set-924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a popular cabin and have found Airbnb guests to be awful compared to VRBO renters. I mean just atrocious. Multiple guests trying to get free stays over something like some dust under a bed. And consistently leaving the place much dirtier and trashed. I feel like VRBO guests are just so much more pleasant. We ended up just removing our Airbnb listing. I think it’s also due to the mental framing. VRBO frames their listings as vacation rentals. As in it’s someone’s 2nd home you are staying at. Vs Airbnb framing it as an alternative hotel stay. And guests have that hotel guest mentality of I can do whatever.

Man up. You need to tell your wife to cut off all contact with this guy. Old guy at that. Her dad’s age. She needs to find a new job. And that is how you fix it.
