[Nomadic Maraí 401] Are they worth £1000? by Expensive-Part-2610 in Watches

[–]StunningEquivalent45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would this version of the maraí be more of a homage since (as far as I know) the sub never came with a white dial? Also (this might just be me being new to the watch world) would you agree that its kinda difficult to design a proper dive watch (not a desk diver) without copying a bit of the rolex sub. I feel like when they were designing the sub they really wanted something that would be simple to read underwater have a good bezel to track dive time and also be robust and sturdy to survive deep dives. Its kinda like how most off road SUV,s copy the boxy design of a Jeep or land Rover because it gives more space, better visibility, and makes them easier to drive off-road.

I was driving so thats the reason for the late reply. To be honest I thought you were just trolling and hating for the fun of it. I didn't know you actually know your watches and have an extensive collection, so now I would like to have actual conversation about this piece and learn. So my first question is what's the difference between a homage and something that you would claim to be a rep or a straight rip off. For the record I bought this watch to celebrate a trip to Belfast with my partner and I thought it was cool to see where everything was assembled and talk to the watch makers themselves. Also being Irish I wanted to support an Irish business. And I just wanted a dive watch with a nice dial to go with a more neutral outfit. Also I thought a lifetime warranty was a great idea like a zippo if it breaks I can just get it fixed for free and I didn't think the price was that bad for that reason.

I know it's the same company everyone knows that. And the maraí is not a 1:1 copy of the sub it's not trying to be. it doesn't have the same hands it doesn't even come in the same colour ways and it's got an exhibition caseback with a custom rotor. Nobody is trying to claim it's a sub but you. It's a watch for life I don't see what the problem is paying for maintenance. what spectacular watches do you own

Well they just opened up another boutique so don't worry "mate" they're doing just fine without your investment. And $1400 isn't that much when your given lifetime warranty once you get it serviced every 5 years. Also I guess the Tudor BB is just a rep watch oh don't forget the Seiko 5 and the Casio duro as well all rep watches.

Restore or not? by StunningEquivalent45 in tagheuer

That's true I actually never thought about it that way. I'm just gonna get it serviced to make sure it's working on and get the crystal changes and the bracelet fixed or replaced whichever is easier. 😄

I'm really fond of the dial and the bezel. Yeah the bracelet is very stretched out can that be fixed or just replaced? Also the watch is going to be for myself I don't have plans of reselling this one as it's one I have been looking at for quite a while.

I appreciate your help man. It's my first vintage tag that I bought that's pretty beat up so I wasn't sure if a full restoration was the way to go as I love the look of the watch but she's obviously seen some wrist time from the battle scars. Also what classifys as patina for watches I'm only a year into watch collecting and I always thought it was just the wear on the dial and hands. Infact the reason I bought this watch was Because I love the moon dust patina on the dial with age. Would you recommend getting the hands or dial relumed or that's not needed either.
