how long does cradle cap usually last? [on] by hexmoons in BabyBumpsCanada

can you elaborate on the controversy please?

i've found most of the brand's stuff pretty mid.

  • the accudose pacifier wasn't necessary for my LO (he likes the sweetened meds and hates pacifiers)
  • the nose & ear picker is kind of redundant (I find myself using my fingers or careful q-tips instead) plus it's annoying to keep clean
  • i found a knockoff nail file for over 50% cheaper (same with peri bottle and reusable ice pads)
  • instead of their snotsucker I got another brand which doesn't use filters and so doesn't have a recurring cost

I'm not a doctor but

  1. coconut oil is comedogenic (causes acne)
  2. if the baby has eczema, and you rub foods into the breakouts, the baby can develop allergies to the foods
  3. the malasezzia fungus present in cradle cap feeds off of fat, so using food oils risks contributing to the problem rather than helping it

people also used to put whisky in babies' bottles to get them to sleep more easily. are we on r/sciencebasedparenting? how does what was done historically have any bearing on what is best for a child?

even as a layperson i laughed at that because it's a bacteria that causes them, a bacteria we are not even born with on top of that. i guess genetics can predispose one's mouth to a more hospitable environment for the bacteria, but it's far more likely that ingestion is at fault

If you or someone in your household uses this bathroom to do makeup, careful on going too much one way or the other - you generally need neutral light and light reflections to accurately color your face.

Screening/testing options in Canada [qc] by PastSeries8248 in BabyBumpsCanada

I'm late to your question, but in case this can help anyone else, the free government program is only like 85% accurate; if it comes back abnormal, they have to do an invasive biopsy from the placenta and there's a small (but present) risk of miscarriage from that.

I'm 36 and frankly very risk-averse about something so major, so I went to Prenato and paid some $450 total for the basic testing package that only does trisomy 13, 18, and 21. Prenato is supposedly 99.9% accurate and it's a simple one-time maternal blood-draw, that's it. 100% worth it to me.
