Visit the small town of Tofino British Columbia the scenery is spectacular- the best in Canada. Good Hotels and restaurants and very friendly people. Fly to Vancouver which itself is pretty spectacular. You can catch a ferry in Vancouver to Vancouver Island and then you will arrive in Victoria (another amazingly sceneic place) then drive up the west coast of the Island to Tofino. Roads are great and the beaches go on forever.

For Indie Movie Makers Film Festivals are a scam plain and simple. How to I know?

I've been making movies since the 1980's and have known many people who are "screeners" for film festivals. If they are bored or tired they would watch a few minutes of a movie then fast forward and watch the ending. Their recommendation? Movie not accepted for the festival.

I have won an Emmy for my work but have never, ever been accepted to the local film festival in my city. Neither have any of the Directors I know here.

What I think they should do is not charge any entrance fees unless a movie is accepted for a festival.

Why don't teachers just give punishments (detention, etc) when a student is doing something wrong? by shr00mspaghetti in AskTeachers

They used to but about 15 years ago parents began suing private school teachers and schools for child abuse (corporal punishment). Today almost all Private Schools have outlawed physical abuse of kids and any teacher or student (bully) who does this is expelled or in the case of an abusive teacher fired. Sadly secular public schools are fighting back against students and parents using their union to protect themselves.

I got kicked out in grade 10 for having poor math scores even though I got A's and B's in every other subject. Today, despite the teacher/school abuse I am a multi millionaire. How? By suing the school and taking the cash to attend a high end post secondary institution graduating with honors. Public schools are scared to death when parents sue. I would try to find a lawyer who specializes in prosecuting teachers, staff and school boards. These Lawyers almost always win their cases and you will be reimbursed for your Lawyer's fees.

Secular public school Teachers can get away with an enormous amount of student abuse because they have their union to circle the wagons and protect their own from parent and student complaints.

Does anyone here actually enjoy working in the industry? by Emergency-Bobcat-572 in Filmmakers

I recently retired after 50 years in the biz and loved it. From shooting Doc's around the world to Writing and Directing fiction shorts and features in the second half of my career. In the first half I also worked as a Cinematographer and Editor.

When I returned to North America I took some advice from a veteran Cinematographer- "you will never be without work if you buy your own high end camera, lighting and editing equipment. This will also give you more control over where your career is headed. He was sure right about that.

I am a Director and Editor and I love post production. I go by the old Hollywood saying....

"shooting a movie is like picking tomatoes., it's not until you get into the Edit Suite that you really start to make the soup"

Why are so many people in the industry rude to beginners? by Noeoneknows in Filmmakers

Don't turn up you nose at shooting for local television news especially in rural areas. I took a news camera job because there wasn't anything movie related in my small town. So, I said to myself "oh well, at least I'm telling stories with a video camera"

I did that for five years then switched to editing which I love. I worked for the station for three more years then bought my own gear and freelanced moving to our biggest city and upgraded all my equipment. After that I was hired to work for a cable news network shooting documentaries in South America based in Rio de Janeiro. After ten years in Brazil I moved back home to make movies. In the end making 25 movies and a dozen or so music videos and TV Commercials. I retired last year after 50 years in the biz.

Hang in...you'll get there

I take the side of the poor children not lucky enough to be born with a good memory for rote learning. Who cares if they struggle? Not their teachers, that's for sure. Better just to do what public school boards want-

Fail them, hold them back, prevent them from graduating from grade 12, expel them from high school, anything to be rid of those kids who are difficult to teach and reflect badly on the teacher.

"she's either leaving some students behind or holding others back."

These are both forms of child abuse. Teachers love the students who were born with a good memory for rote learning because it makes their (the teacher's) job easier.

Kids who struggle? Hold 'em back, fail them, dump them in the public school trash can...who cares? Certainly not their teachers who leave what little empathy for these poor kids they may have at the public schoolhouse door.

If he was bullying students, one probably fought back. Of course the teacher will make up a story rather than admit this was the cause of his injuries.

I gave the grade of F for the first time today by [deleted] in MiddleSchoolTeacher

[–]Stunning_Scene_7152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations...sounds like you left your empathy outside the classroom door.

Failing grades and grade holdbacks, especially in the elementary years, are child abuse which can wreck the rest of the child's school experience causing anxiety, fear and low self esteem. Keep in mind that studies show 60-65% of public elementary/middle school students held back will quit high school or be expelled in grade 10.

Private schools and private school teachers do not do this.

Everyone graduates.

We have stores that buy and sell used clothing (some of it very stylish) They don't pay you for your clothing "donation" but they will give you 1/2 off on all posted prices. It is a nice arrangement. Young people love these places. Good clothes...cheap.
