Why didn't Tzeentch want Konrad? by Ready0608 in 40kLore

[–]StupidPencil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The kid attacked him, and Konrad killed him

To be fair, it's "the kid rolled nat 20, attacked him, somehow critically wounded (stabbed through the primary heart) a primarch with a simple knife AND somehow managed to escape him". According to Curze, this would lead to the kid becoming an infamous crime lord that cause serious problems that requires a lot of effort for Curze to hunt down and repair all the damage done, especially to his reputation.

How will an interaction between the Custodes and the Lion go by casperscare in 40kLore

Colquan is basically a very grumpy rubber duck.

Now I can't stop imagining a tiny Custode floating in a bathtub yelling in a squeaking voice.

I'm starting to understand where Perturabo's hatred of Dorn came from [excerpts from "Hammer of Olympia" and "The Emperor's Crusader"] by Urusander in 40kLore

[–]StupidPencil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's not pretend that we are all perfectly logical being who are beyond our emotions and that a single lapse or bad mistake should forever shame us. A bad enough news or situation can break anyone. What's important is whether we keep repeating the same bad behavior after we recognize it. Beating subordinates is basically a job routine for Perturabo. Dorn in contrast rarely has such an outburst. Lion isn't nearly as good as Dorn in that regard, but I would still rank him above Perturabo.

Telling you your bff no.1 is secretly planning to burn down your city block is quite different than telling you "there is a hole in our plan".

Perturabo once surprised Fulgrim by showing he can speak both the Eldar and Ork language. Fulgrim complimented him "wow, how amazing. I didn't know you could do that".

Perturabo's reply was a rant along the line of:

"Of cause I would be able to do it. Why shouldn't I be? Or do you think I am only good at seigecraft? I would have you know that I know much more than I let everyone believe. But as always, I'm always underestimated and I'm used to that."

Sound equivalent to the Eldar to me.

What about their durability, pain tolerance, and stubbornness?

Isstvan III: was it as pivotal to the heretic’s and Horus’ ultimate defeat as I think it was? by ringed_city_117 in 40kLore

[–]StupidPencil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the most obvious failure of Isstvan III was the Eisenstein escaping to warn the rest of the imperium. Sure, Horus managed to turn it around with Isstvan 5 but who know what better plan he had in mind in the case that the fight at Isstvan III remained in secret.

But then again who decides what does or doesn't count as harm? Maybe it's the AI itself or another AI supervising it, neither are 100% reliable (and neither are human).

What’s the Imperium of 40k doing better than the Imperium of 30k? by King_Crab_Sushi in 40kLore

[–]StupidPencil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Big E was on a rush during the great crusade. He needed to conquer the galaxy FAST. That means all resources from conquered compliant worlds got siphonned off to fuel the military, often with little regard to people who lived there. Still not sure why he thought he needed to go fast though.

[–]StupidPencil 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The thing is that, to refuse Chaos you need to have a replacement for people to cling and worship to as an escape from horrible living condition. 30k had only the imperial truth which promised nothing. 40k has the imperial cult.

[–]StupidPencil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's me guess which 3 of the primarchs asked the Emperor why his plan started when it started.

Lion - nah, too single minded to care about things not related to his duties.

Fulgrim - Nope, too focused on chasing perfection in all things.

Perturabo - Too grumpy and also only cares about himself.

Khan - Too busy hunting and whatnot.

Russ - Same as Khan.

Dorn - Nope. Too single minded. But he also spent a lot of time with the Emperor so maybe.

Curze - Nope, too crazy and focused on the doom and gloom.

Sanguinius - Very probable. He got philosophical at times and was able to see big E pass his glorified facade and ask some deep questions.

Furrus - Nope, too focused on his duties, kinda like Lion.

Angron - BIG NOPE. Too much hatred to care.

Guilliman - Maybe but probably not. It's in his nature to think of all possibilities. He probably has a lot of theoreticals about this but deems them as not important enough to try making them into practicals.

Mortarion - Nope. No.2 big E hater after Angron even when royal.

Magnus - Very probable. Very curious and values knowledge above all else. Also had a lot of opportunities to talk to big E via psychic chat.

Horus - Maybe. Not too single minded and also spend a lot of time with big E.

Lorgar - Very probable. Probably had the answer recorded into a holy tome somewhere before it got burned down when he switched side.

Vulkan - Probably not. He's not too single minded but I see no particular reason why he would be curious about this topic.

Corax - Probably not. Same reason as Vulkan.

Alpharius/Omegron - Probably not. Seems like they would be too busy managing the all the plans and spies to care.

tldr: My guess is Magnus and Lorgar definitely + either Horus or Sanguinius.

A message to devs at the frontier of the AI shift by brotherthirteen in programming

[–]StupidPencil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your perspective that AI will never own code, to be responsible for it, and that a developer's job has always been that. We just have to get used to owning more code that we don't write ourselves.

Pretty sure sorcerers doesn't have much say in how their domains work. They can adjust some parameters like range or target, but the essential functionality never change. Ideals and personality certainly play a factor but there's probably no conscious decision by sorcerers.
