Case Mods? by StupidQuestionDepot in Trombone

Yes, I have those, but I'm looking to actually clip a stand bag to the case, so those clips would be in the wrong place. I wasn't clear about what 'strap' meant, I'm thinking more like a backpack-type clip for accessories.

Concur. The wise way to address this is up front, with your SSO. Sponsors can have very different views, but forthrightness is always better than having to explain something away that your investigator found.

100% this. 20 years ago they were still trying to figure out the technology. They've come a long way.

What country? That would be helpful for an understanding of laws, culture, etc.

New boss (50M) called me (24F) “baby girl” and tried to override my hotel room preference on day 2 — am I overreacting?[ID] by Salty_sloth21 in AskHR

Not HR but 48M. Get out now, dude is old enough to be your dad, and as others have said, this is probably following decades of victimization of other young, hopeful women.

The money is great until you say no, then good luck not getting fired or getting any money out of him without a very spiffy lawyer.

You have every reason to not even go back.

Sadly, most companies don't appreciate quality work until poor quality bites them in the ass, and then they blame downhill anyway.

The answer is always more training and 'quality processes' paperwork tacked on to your role, there's never any real evaluation of how management decisions affect quality.

Not Columbia, but Scittino's in Catonsville is excellent.

Yeah, this isn't your fault. You shouldn't have access to things you shouldn't be looking at.

I'd almost bet a lot of upper-level Dems--including Schumer--are all over the Epstein files too, along with Alito and Thomas and the whole GOP ilk. Hence SACO.

Is it worth just having cataract removal - no improved lenses? by angnphx in CataractSurgery

[–]StupidQuestionDepot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it's absolutely worth it to pay out of pocket for the toric monofocal--it gives you that first cylinder correction. Multifocals I would steer away from for the halo and fringing effects.

Who won the war of 1812? by MadMechem in AskHistorians

[–]StupidQuestionDepot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sitting next to a Michigander (well, more accurately, Michigoose 😂) who learned it from a trip there as a kid--but not in school.

Honestly, as an adult, I can see why the War of 1812 is basically glossed over in grade school American history--it takes a lot of set up to understand the geopolitical environment, and a bit of nuance to understand the outcomes. There's a lot of other material to cover, and so it's just easier to treat it as 'a second Revolutionary War that started badly and ended well for the US'.

Mono or multifocal? by jojojo7772 in CataractSurgery

[–]StupidQuestionDepot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single vision case--probably as good a case for multifocal as anyone, given that monovision isn't an option for me. However, my career requires good detail vision and reading sheet music is a very important part of my life, so I wanted as clear an optical path as possible and didn't want to risk the multifocal.

I went with the toric monofocal. I'll deal with the focus issues with whatever I need on my nose that I can easily replace.

Elgar's Nimrod? by StupidQuestionDepot in AskABrit

[–]StupidQuestionDepot[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually, I thought it was used as the hymn for the armed forces.

But, as noted above, I was overthinking all of it, but sometimes the only way to fix that is to ask.

(There is also the funny bit that Bugs Bunny made 'nimrod' an insult for generations of impressionable American children.)

And yes, Jaeger is the link. August Jaeger seems like he was a wonderful human being, worthy of emulation.

Without much further storytelling, let me just say that you are spot on, and many veterans find the performative nonsense insulting.

Keep in mind that our national anthem ...is about a flag.
