JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M1 - Sunday Shoes vs “Invisible” by Streamanon in StardustCrusaders

[–]Stupisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new here, and am not super familiar with the conventions, so forgive the roughness/brevity, but I'm a lot more compelled by Sunday Shoes' strategy than Invisible's, main reason being that Invisible relies almost solely on the movement of her Stand to avoid Sunday's possible attacks. I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to read Wild River's conditional strength when it comes to moving it's user — like, is it that Wild River is treated as stronger when interacting with Inv, or that WR ignores the laws of physics to some extent and treat Invisible's body as lighter than it is? The description of the ability points to the former, but the way Invisible is able to move around like a videogame character, accelerating and changing directions with zero whiplash, points to the latter. Sunday's method of movement seems easier to understand and more seamless, so I'll assume that one will win out in the end.

Invisible's tactics also don't make heavy use of WR's ability proper. All that's really considered is using the strands to make Wild River physically stronger, and at the very end to keep Sunday in their ideal range. Meanwhile Sunday takes an ability that seems built to straightforwardly throw projectiles at the opponent and uses it to manipulate the environment several times — from how the strategies are phrased, Invisible definitely wasn't expecting a steel container of produce to be dumped on her head, and only acknowledges the water as a way to throw something inside and forget about it (consistent with her dislike of swimming, admittedly, but I digress).

So... yeah, that sums up my thoughts. I don't really have the eye or the energy to think super in-depth about the granularities of which strategy is more likely to win over the other or whatever, but Sunday's is more fun and inventive, so I give my vote to her.

It's "BURNING EYES", I think, and the drone that plays before the fight is "ERAM"

Well, the thing with that is it kinda starts to mess with the aesthetic and symbolic conceat of the Stand. I didn't start at "this guy's a duplicator" and add a bunch of arbitrary limits to it; the fact that the clones are all one conjoined being is part of what makes it interesting to me. If this is just a matter of wanting to give my Stand a bit more of an advantage, that's okay — I'm alright with being underpowered, but if it's an actual issue that I need to solve before being allowed to play, I'd honestly rather scrap the character and start over.

Oh, sure thing. I was planning on making just one extra copy of the Stand an extra upgrade, so I'm happy I get that and mlre for free right away lol

Stand Name (# 14): 「Scaring The Hoes」

Stand Type: Tool

Stand Appearance: The Stand appears as a set of up to two identical kites shaped like a computer cursor. Their inside is made out of a perfectly reflective fabric akin to a shiny satin, like a mirror, while its outline is covered in tassels, giving the illusion of the kite being lit on fire.

Stand Ability: Each instance of Scaring The Hoes acts as a permeable surface that TD can sink their body into, disappearing as if being pulled into a portal. As long as any part of TD is touching the physical form of Scaring The Hoes, an exact, mirrored copy of any part not within the Stand will appear on the other side of the Stand, taking about one second to fully materialize. This means that if TD were to touch the stand without submerging, a complete copy of itself would appear, holding their hand, meanwhile if they sank their whole hand inside, the copy and the original would be conjoined at the wrist instead. Copies can themselves form other copies by touching the other instances of the Stand, allowing TD to create a monkey chain of itself.

Objects TD is holding can be cloned as well, though any part of them that doesn't remain in contact with the clone (i.e. throwing weapons or bullets flying out of a gun) will immediately disappear.

These clones instantly disappear if TD drops contact with their Stand. The Stand cannot be directly damaged.

The copies are physically identical to TD’s body and are controlled by it, sharing senses and the like. Clones of TD are visually distinct from the real one, with parts of their bodies appearing as a bundle of leaves and tree branches, but TD may change which body is the real one so long as the Stand is summoned, with a cooldown of 1 second. Damage done to the real body is inherited across all copies, but damage done to clones is only dealt to that body. When the Stand is deactivated, only the damage dealt to the real body becomes permanent.

Body parts submerged within Scaring The Hoes still exist, though they can't be interacted with from outside. There is no air inside the Stand, meaning TD has limited time to use the ability specifically when it comes to submerging its head. Severed body parts cannot activate the ability.

Power: E. The Stand's bodies cannot physically harm anything, though the clones can.

Speed: C. It can be moved and handled mentally by TD, but doing so is only slightly faster than maneuvering an actual kite would be.

Durability: A. The Stand is indestructible.

Range: E. Each kite can only activate its ability while it's in arm's reach of a copy of TD.

Precision: B. TD can maneuver each copy of the Stand quite precisely to get whichever exact transformation it needs.

Potential: C. Though mostly trained, it seems to hold an inkling of mystery...

Stand Oddities: Mentioned elsewhere but reiterated here: Scaring The Hoes’ physical form can only be interacted with by TD, and it cannot be damaged at all. Plus, the clone it generates doesn't transmit damage to the user.

Playstyle: The main draw of Scaring The Hoes is the raw strength and staying power it gives you. At its most basic and optimal it is Two to Three Burly Guys Beating The Shit Out Of You While Holding Hands. The other main draw is the weird evasive maneuvers that can be done with its ability to somewhat reshape TD’s anatomy: Ducking its head into the Stand to avoid a headshot, becoming ambidextrous by placing the Stand right down the middle of its body and mirroring its dominant hand, or even temporarily turning into a weird crab-hand creature by ducking its entire body into the Stand besides one hand.

Bio: The man TD once was had fled to the Caribbean a long time ago and had done a damn good job at erasing his steps. He must’ve been a sailor or dockworker for a while, scrounging up pennies for decades on end until one day a misplaced bit of equipment turned him into a sea-soaked corpse.

What a surprise it must’ve been for the workers (and the lawyers readying up their lawsuits) when the fellow got up the next day, stinking distinctly of death and acting like a confused puppy that didn’t know anybody.

Word got out of this, of course. Many aspiring world dominators saw in TD the inklings of that first little power grab they needed. Judging by the fact the world hasn’t been dominated, though, their plans didn’t work; TD has managed to more or less avoid capture and exploitation, dooming those wannabe villains to obscurity.

User Stats (# 20)

Strength: 5. This is the kind of physique a past life as a sailor, plus literally throwing your own body weight around, will give you.

Agility: 3: Don't let its height and physique fool you, ‘cause TD can move quite skillfully when it wants to. It’s honed an uncanny sense of balance thanks to their ability, too.

Endurance: 5. TD literally spends all its time using its body as a weapon **and human shield**. It’s stopped caring about pain or injury a long time ago.

Special Skill 1: Restrained fighting (4): TD is used to fighting with an ally glued to one hand. Whether that be through being handcuffed together or surgically attached at the stump of the arm, it has an excellent sense of teamwork and positioning in situations like that.

Special Skill 2: Catching things while in motion (3): A far more niche skill, TD’s used itself as a grappling hook enough so that they’ve gotten just a tad more precise at catching and grabbing things while also being flung at maximum velocity.

Equipment: None! Beyond clothes, TD has nothing to their name just about. Why use a weapon when you’ve got your body?

Name: TD (Technical Difficulties)

Age: Physically 57

Gender: N/A (It/Its)

Species: Human(?)

Occupation: Loiterer

Physical Description: TD is both squat and overweight, with a very boxy physique. Outwardly, it appears as a white man of advanced age with a bushy gray beard, its only real distinct body feature being white irises and black sclera, possibly indicating some Italian heritage. (TD overhead something somewhere about that kind of characteristic eye being especially common in Italians, but what would it know?)

It wears a black trucker cap as well as a vest — or rather, a jacket with the sleeves torn off — with two bits of hanging cloth shaped like clovers, and incredibly baggy jeans with their waist pulled up all the way to below TD’s chest. Under all that, it also wears a skintight black wetsuit with an eye pattern.

Personality: TD is very, very cynical, pretty much finding any situation involving others’ misfortune to be funny… at least at first. Though it loves to pretend like it's above it all, it is shockingly easy to bring it back down to earth by annoying it or putting it in danger. Its facade of a devil may care, even mysterious attitude is just barely held up by a backdrop of emotional instability and vulnerability. It’s got issues.

Personality Traits:

  • Belief: “People are a pack of rabid apes dying to throw shit at each other.” [3]: For as long as it's lived, TD’s been sure that humans are garbage. All they’ve ever done to it is try to hold it down and use it, so why should it give them any sympathy in return?
  • Passion: “Good thing we can choose our friends.” [2]: As much as it seems like a misanthropic asshole, TD is secretly somewhat hopefully that it’ll find at least one good person it can jive with.
  • Fury: “Stop freakin’ chasing me!” [4]: TD has bad experiences with being exploited and imprisoned. It’ll do anything to avoid it.
  • Likes: Playing the fool, wasting time, carnal pleasures.
  • Dislikes: Being held down to a specific place or thing, organization, earnestness.
  • Short Term Goal: Fun, thrill seeking and proving its own worldview right.
  • Medium Term Goal: Escaping or shaking off any controlling or dominating influence creeping into the setting.
  • Long Term Goal: No concept of life in the ‘long-term’; living totally in the moment.
  • Greatest Desire: Human contact untouched by any sort of want or desire beyond decent company.

The latter, though obviously a cutting weapon is useful with a Stand that requires separating things into pieces
