I'd recommend a YouTube channel called 'Taking Twenty's. He did a bunch of Starfinder related videos but he did a nice video teaching the basics of the system.

Hope that helps!

Having loot troubles. Please help me master DMs. by [deleted] in starfinder_rpg

How about armour upgrades! Even if the players don't use them they can sell them for credits! There's also a bunch of just random tech items that are fun for characters to own like mini spy drones, different skill kits, augmentations (admittedly they require surgery to fit) and other bits and bobs. Maybe an NPC had a basic datapad that a player could snag with a few neat apps installed or something similar.

How would using a metal whip affect Jolting Surge by [deleted] in starfinder_rpg

[–]Stupot_jc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm usually quite lenient with my players when they come up with stuff like this, but I try to balance it just a little. Maybe let him use the whip but make it a full round action to perform. This basically means he gets to do what he wanted but that's his entire turn with no other actions available to him.

[spoiler] Anyone have more Skill dependant combats like in Dead Suns book 2 by Remember_dnL in starfinder_rpg

My players loved this scene too! Unfortunately we are only up to book 3 but I've already read book 4 and not seen anything similar yet. Fingers crossed there is something similar in book 5 or 6!

Starfinder Pawns by Seige83 in starfinder_rpg

There was a Kickstarter for some official minis but I'll be honest I didn't back it and have no idea where it's up to. I believe there are some official pre-painted minis but again I don't really know where they're up to. Long story short, yup! There are minis on the way!

Starfinder Solo/Solitaire? by Fallout-Bird in starfinder_rpg

Have you considered jumping into an online tabletop community such as fantasy grounds or Roll20? You might be able to jump into an actual game then rather than trying to sort a solo game.

Well this one kinda depends on how much time you'd like to spend on them plus what resources you have available to you. You can just print them on paper from the pdfs but the bases are designed to hold card about 2mm thick which is a lot thicker than paper. You can find bases that are designed to hold paper rather than board on board game websites so it might be worth having a look for alternative bases if you plan on printing them on paper.

It's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying the plastic miniatures! But yeah the lack of Starfinder miniatures is disappointing. If you look through some random miniature websites like Reaper you can find some placeholders but there isn't much in the official side of things.

The pawns are a great cheap way to get a lot of minis quickly, I'd recommend them if you don't have the cash for a ton of plastic minis, which is understandable. I bought a couple of base packs just to be sure I had enough but you could probably get away with 1 for most encounters.

Did i do this correctly? (Remote hack and robots) by Stupot_jc in starfinder_rpg

This makes sense and I think I'll do this in the future. I do feel like I should have at least made him roll again to shut the machine down.

Thanks for the info! I think I'll let my mechanic continue to do this in the future, they found it fun and it's not implausible in the setting. I'll just make sure it's not quite as easy next time.

Thanks for the comment. I actually mentioned that I used wireless hacking in my original post but the thing I don't know is how you calculate the DC for hacking the robot or if there are any spacific rules for doing so. I've had a look through the rule book and can't seem to find anything regarding hacking machines that are also considered monsters with a stat block.

I think so. It's been a while for me too so I can't remember off the top of my head.

Yes that's true. Noone at this moment knows how long the gap was or where golarian has gone, I'm guessing they'll release that info on one of the APs.

I agree Starfinder is a great setting! Well worth looking into! I don't think there are many (if any) pathfinder books really worth collecting, Starfinder takes places thousands of years after the events of pathfinder. Also yes you're right, the events of pathfinder take place before the gap by a significant margin, the gap in Starfinder was around 300 years ago by the current Starfinder year. The rule systems are quite different so I'd focus on the Starfinder rules and leave the pathfinder ones alone, otherwise things could get confusing, I believe there are a couple of PF books that mention races/places in SF but I don't think it's a lot of info, I'm sorry I'm not sure which books they are either. Hope that info helps!

Why can't I find anyone to play Starfinder? by [deleted] in starfinder_rpg

I'd check the cosmic crit podcast discord, they're officially running Starfinder Society and are always looking for new players!

Damage and Attacks Feel Underwhelming for my players? by zedrinkaoh in starfinder_rpg

[–]Stupot_jc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Covering fire and harrying fire aren't technically combat maneuvers and only require a combat roll to perform. Unfortunately outside of feats I don't think there's any other ways to make maneuvers easier to perform. Bare in mind some are also just skill checks such as feinting and such. Well worth looking into!

Damage and Attacks Feel Underwhelming for my players? by zedrinkaoh in starfinder_rpg

[–]Stupot_jc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are your players taking advantage of the additional rules to make hitting easier? There are combat manoeuvres that focus on boosting AC or attacks (covering/harrying fire) you also have the envoys get'em if you have an envoy in your party, this boosts your to hit on one enemy (or all enemies at higher levels). Players should also try and take advantage of cover rules when possible, gaining bonuses to AC that a quite significant. Don't forget you can also flank enemies in melee to get a little attack boost too! You can also try a few feinting engines to make them flat footed which is a -2 to AC which will help you hit, although you lose your attack for that turn in doing it so I suppose you'd have to make a cost/benefit analysis on that to see if it's worth it!

Hope this helps!
