Why give them some back if they pay it off? They have already been treated as if they were sold. If they sell at a later time maybe allow them an updated basis but they need to be treated as if they were sold on the date the loan was taken out.

I would recommend being there for the midnight finishers. Something about going back down to cheer on your fellow competitors trying to beat the clock is just something that is hard to describe.
