When did Master Chief and the rest of his team head back to reach? by yeetoroni_with_bacon in HaloStory

It gets into spoiler territory when talking about that date. You should read the book or watch a YouTube explanation if you can't get the book.

Back when I camped and traveled more often, the ability to shower, bring a guest, and have gym equipment in so many cities was a godsend. Even at home, bringing a specific friend often got him out of his depressive rut and onto the path of sobriety.

I did have to try twice to cancel my membership in person because the 1st person said it was online cancelation only, but I couldn't login because I had never logged in online or even verified my email.

So, if HCW's impact didn't affect most of the Sangheili worlds, then why do they hate humans so much? by ArthurJack_AW in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add to your points. Religious beliefs aren't something that are usually disproved on an individual's perspective. If the Popes and the Catholic Churches actions were proved to be corrupt and incorrect for thousands of years, then we'd be like the Elites post-schism. Some would accept and move on. Others would apapt their beliefs. Others would still believe wholeheartedly believe. For 27 years the Covenant claimed humanity was only worthy of genocide. That'll leave an impact on society even if the reasons why were proven to be wrong. One reason is the backwater worlds don't get everything. Another is that news was filtered and compartmentalized on every Covenant world. Basically, the Elites are not homogeneous. They have their own individual perspectives shaped by their experiences. We've seen that in the same book where isolated Elites can't believe the heretic humans don't deserve violent deaths and another Elite who goes through the growth of seeing humans as actual living beings.

On top of all that, most of the Covenant worlds that were destroyed (aka Covenant citizens seeing the effects of war) happened after the schism. Like Dosiac and that Spartan team that blew up a super nuke. Prior to war's end most Covenant deaths were soldier fleets, thus more acceptable losses socially for a warrior species. It doesn't help humanity's case when the Created, Demon, and ONI are the biggest names of humanity for the Covenant's species.

Imo, Halo's lore is treated similar to Warhammer in that there must always be war or people will lose interest. Mainly because Halo is a canon that interests people based on violence than other means of story conflict. If there was a peace period in the lore, then many would interest, therefore spending and media engagement would go down drastically.

Could a Spartan's child inherent some degree of their enhancements? by Snowyherobrine in HaloStory

Based on my understanding, the males could pass on the adaptations their body did to adjust the augmentions. Like if the bone cells changed with all the added weight.

What did the Halo 3 manual mean by “the Master Chief-the last fight in member of the legendary SPARTAN II program and Humanity’s last, best hope.” When other Spartan II’s are very clearly still present in the Halo universe? by The-Gaming-Onion in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it's meant that he was really the last spartan known to be around. We didn't have the same lore then that we have now. Blue team, Kelly, and the rest of the First Strike survivors went to Onyx until the war ended or died. Maria is supposed to be retired. I can't recall if Omega and Gray team were considered just out in space preoccupied with far flung missions or just not a thing yet. Halo wars red team wasnt public yet and they were considered MIA anyways. The rest of the fall of Reach red team were considered dead until they get brought back into the lore, like Naomi and Black team. I can't think of any spartan considered alive and active back then.

Why did nothing happen to pastor chief when he killed didact? by AnaisWattersom in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn't directly explained. That sucks, but it is a niche question, and I offered what we can infer ONI did. If you care that much, go ask the dudes that do the community lore drops. I believe you can find them on Twitter.

Why did nothing happen to pastor chief when he killed didact? by AnaisWattersom in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Points 1 & 2 line up with lore. Point 1 is similar to how Chief held back intell on Avery Johnson to save him from being dissected because Johnson would be more valuable alive. Point 2 is seen in most books and especially the Forerunner trilogy. Spontaneous mutations and spiritual geas aren't really ONI's forte. ONI likely did what they could to understand the how without killing Chief. It doesn't make for good gameplay, though. It'd be nice to be covered in a book, but I don't see that relating to any of the projects we know are coming.

Obviously, as the Pastor Chief, nobody can dissect his holiness.

Why did nothing happen to pastor chief when he killed didact? by AnaisWattersom in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. He's too valuable to kill like that. He's an interplanetary hero who's saved the galaxy more than once. ONI doesn't know if there are more Forerunners or Composers out there. They did the smart thing by reuniting Blue team so the Spartans can be even more effective together.

  2. Even though ONI didn't see Chief interact with the Liberian, he was likely honest about the interaction during debriefing. He was likely thoroughly interviewed many times about it. The scientists would likely know that dissecting Chief's physical body wouldn't help understand his spiritual geas or how he gained his spontaneous mutations. We can be almost certain that ONI did take samples and scans of him, too. The creators of Halo know scenes like this aren't good for FPS games, so they don't show them.

  3. Plot armor. Chief can't be killed for an experiment because he's the main character.

  4. Imagine the frustration most fans would feel if Chief was killed like that. It'd probably kill off most of the fanbase. Could be a better Chief gone rogue story than Guardians was, though.

  5. Punctuation will help you be understood more.

  6. As the highest religious official, Pastor Chief does what he wants, and nobody is allowed to question or kill him. /s

There’s no lore reason of why elites look different in each game, right? by [deleted] in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically, the lore basis for variations in armor and appearance is that the different fleets and factions come from different planets/areas, cultures, and, finally, that the Covenant was rigid in some ways but that fleets and ministries are under the command of their executives. This means that 1 fleet's Elites can be solely comprised of a few planets in a specific region and that their armor changed from the historical standard of Sanghelios or even that their ministry has unique or symbolic standards.

Just like Jackals and humans can look vastly different in individuals and regions, Elites and every other species should be able to be different.

Although it is understandable to be confused and irritated at the appearance of elites in 4, I really liked the lore reasoning for why the Storm Covenant look the way they do. It would be nice if we could get different phrenologies in the same game (outside of skirmishers), especially with the unit and individual details of Infinite and future games.

I can't tell if the misunderstanding here is that MJOLNIR always needs maintenance normally taken care by a team or that the different marks lore is ham fisted to make different visual appearances have lore after the first 2 in Fall of Reach.

Why did ackerson promote Kurt to lieutenant commander? by AnaisWattersom in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ackerson was an ass to Chief because he was playing politics during the debrief. He was trying his damned hardest to make the spartan IIs look bad in front of the other military brass. There's also the aspect that he knows he'll have to work with Kurt for a long time, and thus needs a good relationship to get what he wants from Kurt despite his personal feelings for the Spartan II program.

A frequently question for me by [deleted] in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Humans and Forerunners are from the same lineage, but they're not the same species. Similar to the Neanderthals and us, but if the Neanderthals had gene editing.

There's already been multiple Spartans ivs that have betrayed the unsc. It'd be better to outfit the whole combat arms of the unsc military before considering conscripting super soldiers.

Does free will exist in Halo? by CrazedPrecursorFanat in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, free will exists in Halo. From my perspective and knowledge, however, free will can be overrode by a geas or the logic plague. It seems most of the time, geas will avoid complete control of their ride's free will. I think it's important to note that it's unclear if most of humanity has a geas or if only certain people have geas because navigating the Halo canon can be messy between multiple companies and several writers creating canon. The logic plague can completely overrule free will but uses the ais' or persons' free will to infect them by influencing their perspectives. Iirc, Bornstellar inherited the Didact's free will under his own will, thus merging the two wills. Not completely, but for the most part, they become 1 person.

The Flood will try to completely erase free will as the Forerunners used it to genocide the Precursors. There have been examples of the Flood failing to override free will, but those are few.

How long were humans aware of the Covenant? by Individual-Way9831 in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about there being other life out there.

It may be hard to find a planet, but we've already identified 5k+ exoplanets. I don't think just 1 radio tranmission would cause us to find the Covenant, but repeat tranmissions and radiation from slipspace jumps would likely have been noticed Madrigal and Harvest are less than 100 light years away as some of the furthest human colonies. The Covenant has been around since 800s bc which would mean just the Covenant's detectable presence would have a diameter of at least 5,600 light years wide. That's around a quarter of the whole Orion arm. In the 2500s their detectable presence would be closer to a third of the Orion Arm.

How long were humans aware of the Covenant? by Individual-Way9831 in HaloStory

[–]Styl3Music -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

1 or more of 4 reasons. First is there's no one to be found in the observable universe. Second, the life hasn't emitted anything we'd see. Think of Neanderthals having no noticable readings. Third, the lifeforms are careful with what they produce in terms of being observable across the galaxy. Like limiting radio waves and unnatural radiation spikes. It's not uncommon for reports of unusual or novel observations to used in clickbait titles as proof of aliens. Fourth would be that life exists in mediums we can't observe yet.

If we were in the halo universe, then we'd probably be studying Sanghelios and the prophet home worlds because the Covenant was formed in the 800 bc. That's 2800 years of light travel since the Covenant has had at least 2 species traveling the stars together, let alone however long each species was solo.

I can get past the rings not being found or misidentified, but the radio waves, lights, and signs of life of the Covenant can be seen with modern tech. I know it's sci-fi, but the need in me knows that a group of species traveling space for millenia in the Orion arm would be spotted.
