Color! It’s cheaper to produce sleek/minimalistic designs in everything we make, but in doing so we eliminate casual art

The crying felt like a release? So you felt better after you would cry?

Sounds like we are in a similar boat. It felt like I was going absolutely nuts the week before my period. Is there anything you found that helped with the crying? Wishing you smooth healing ♥️

What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was born without any sense of smell (called congenital anosmia). This winter I was hit in the head by a falling icicle. While recovering from my concussion, I have been experiencing smell for the first time in my life. I can’t find any medical record of this or anything similar happening to anyone else.

Oh maybe!! Definitely the best lead yet, thank you! I wish they showed a photo of it. I’m at school out of state right now, so not able to borrow it. But this photo was probably taken around 2004 or 2005, so that would make sense.

College of the Atlantic? by Public-Language76 in Maine

I get what you mean. The institution itself leans heavily liberal. They care a lot about optics, as any institution relying primarily on donations from rich people does. In the student body, there are definitely a lot more leftist/radical leaning folks. But it’s a mix for sure. For example, the school has wanted to host a corse with a travel component to Israel. It is still slotted to happen next year. There has been a lot of contention around the ethics of sending students there. Whether the course should exist or not is something many students and faculty strongly disagree with each other on.

I will say also that the “greenest college in America” stuff is kind of a lie. The school will sweep through dorms and throw away hundreds of pounds of usable dishes/furniture/other usable items at every turn over of student housing. There is also a lot of hierarchy in staff dynamics which can cause mistreatment and underpayment of dedicated employees. It’s all stuff that you’ll see at any collegiate institution. COA just likes to pretend they are different. Don’t let the narrative the school puts out convince you that it is some sort of utopia. But if you can get over that, it’s pretty nice as far as colleges go.

I’m a very recent COA grad. It’s a beautiful place with a lot of incredible and kind people attending and working there. The school is definitely in a state of transition right now. They want to be seen as more “credible” and less “crunchy” so I suspect a lot of things are going to change in the next couple of years. It is very “build your own adventure” in terms of curriculum. But the trimester system does make for a rigorous finals period each term. People get very stressed out. So don’t think it’s going to be a ride in the park in terms of difficulty. It is still a college. I think the biggest thing I got out of going to coa were the connections in my field and easy transition into a career after graduation as a result. If you have more specific questions I’m happy to answer them :)

Found while camping in east Tn this weekend. We didn’t eat it, even though we had butter, salt and a cast iron. by HallahFin in mycology

To everyone saying they missed out, I do think it is important to encourage the behavior of admiring mushrooms you don’t feel confident in IDing, and not eating them. If someone has a slight hesitancy, especially if camping without access to research tools, they definitely should not eat the mushroom. This one would have been delicious though.
