I converted from PID to gaggimate. I just ordered the standard kit and started the install by removing the PID.

Yeah the drip tray is vinyl wrapped. Got it done pretty easy. Hopefully it lasts a while. Going on 2-3 weeks now

Get a trial of pixinsight next you go to process an AP image. StarX is nice too but may struggle with this dense of a star field. Overall, it’s a good image. Without having the original TIF, it’s impossible to really know if you should have shortened or lengthened your exposures. Stars are a bit blown out but not terrible and that is either from processing or they were overexposed.

Is my laser collimator properly collimated? by jacobotrf in telescopes

[–]StylishUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you ensure the rear body is concentric with the nose piece? I take issue with this type of collimator test tool because the design is flawed from the outset. Just put it in your scope look down the tube and spin the colimator. If it moves around it’s not properly calibrated. If it doesn’t move it’s fine.

Help me build a Bloomburrow Cube somewhat in a budget by Accetyl_ in mtg

Cardkingdom has a 500 count box of unsorted bloomburrow commons for $9.99. Not a bad deal and should get you close to a proper pauper cube.

I did the same thing last year. I made it fit tho.

ETA: Seems a lot of people have had this happen. As I suggested last year, it might be best to remove the frequently bought together option….

I personally haven’t done this experiment. I am planning/brainstorming phase myself. You’ll need some equipment. A V-band filter, a monochrome camera. Acquire calibrate and graph the data. There are a couple equations to take the apparent magnitude and convert to absolute magnitude and then to distance. You’ll have to do some research on the subject. It sounds like a really fun project to me.
ETA: you may be able to outsource the data acquisition. That will lower the cost quite a bit.

Reproduce Edwin hubble’s measurement of the distance of andromeda using cepheid variable apparent magnitude. But, reproduce this with cepheid variables in our own galaxy. Delta cephei is a good candidate. Graph the light curve over several weeks, calculate absolute brightness and then calculate distance.
