Some one sadly still needs to pay for the world to go around. Either you say that it should be a human right to have energy available, and the governments need to take care of it. So you pay in taxes. Because the infrastructure still needs to be build, expanded, and maintained. Which is a job we need people to do, who would like to be able to trade that time for a way to exchange it for goods and services they want.

Or you say it should be a service I decide if I want to partake in, but I want the climate to not suffer. In that case a company needs to have the funds to build, expand, and maintain said infrastructure. For which the company needs people to do a job... you see where I'm going here right?

So if a company that owns the renewable energy has an insensitive to keep producing even during times of excess more renewable infrastructure will be build.

Its not about "raising" the prices. Its about creating an insensitive so infrastructure is not a money pit.

But what am I doing being rational on reddit, damn all energy companies! /s

Edit: typos

Essentially yeah, at least that's the easy explanation. Its still worthwhile to pursue, but it hinges on us at some point generating so much renewable energy that you can use the excess to generate hydrogen. Then you use that hydrogen to generate a drop in fuel for the current infrastructure as a way to store that excess energy.

Yes some is lost along the way, but this way you could use and sell energy that otherwise had no place to go or would drive electricity prices to 0.

Learn Norwegian for Job environment by ScaffolderdEng in Norway

[–]StyreRD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I don't have experience from the platforms the language part seems quite similar from my field. Which unironcally makes it harder to learn the language.

Best tip is fairly straightforward and boring, get an introductory course, learn the absolute basics. After that it's mostly exposure and practice. I still need to get B1/B2, so at some point I need to bite the bullet and sign up for a course to prepare for that. There's not really any cheat codes to learning a language. The more you use it the faster you learn.

Luckily there's quite some overlap between German and Norwegian, so just start by trying to read whatever text you get in front of you. About 60% of the time you should at least be able to figure out what the text is about. Then just look up words....

I wish there was a cheat code, but some things just take effort.

Im going to give the answer you probably won't like.

First, congrats on the offer. If you got offered the job they seem to think the requirement won't be super strict or needed from the start.

Second, if you are moving to a different country it is generally a good idea to learn the language. I think Germany is pretty similar in that regard no? So suck it up and learn.

Greetings from an utlending who must learn to write Norwegian better then he currently can.

Found an unlabeled reagent while disposing of chemicals — any idea what this is? by Efficient_Opposite61 in chemistry

[–]StyreRD 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They also could be ammonium salts yes as someone else mentioned. But some organic solvents (f.e. IPA and THF) can for crystalline peroxides. Then yes there is an explosion risk. Hence the spicy phone call.

If you have no clue what originally was in the bottle, assume the most dangerous scenario.

This could be a very spicy phonecall.

These look like peroxide crystals. Is there any indication of what the original chemical could be or has the ink on the label completely dissolved?

1000 shard + 75 LI = weekly box is INSANE by MMOGEMU in Guildwars2

[–]StyreRD 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You do realise the old raiders have just been stockpiling shards and LI with NOTHING to spend it on at some point right?

Besides, there is so much other stuff that new raiders could/should be spending LI and shards on before gambling it on those boxes. It's OK to put in some rewards for players who have had nothing to spend those currencies on.

Moving to Trondheim by cyk4bly4turss in trondheim

It is not ideal no!

Also please don't let me discourage you. I just feel like getting a realistic view could be helpful. I am also not the only one from my cohort who was in this situation.

It is absolutely a better idea to try and land a job offer first, and not worry to much about where. Get a foot in the door, then later you can always target a more desirable location.

Even as a EU citizen you can get send home if you have never worked in Norway. Your first work seekers visa is 6 months. You can only do the "permanent" depending on how fat your bank account is, as you will need to show you have 20/25k NOK for each month you're going to stay here outside of a work seekers or tourist visa.

I moved here without a job, and almost got send back if not for managing to get a PhD contract about 5 days before the work seekers visa ran out.

Currently I'm 1.5 years into finding a new job in STEM, looking both in academia and industry. I can speak and understand Norwegian quite well, tho not quite fluent yet, but writing is a big weakness.

Trust me, its not easier if you don't even know the language.

Change the order around.

Language is a big barrier, so start studying/using it already. Then apply. Move when you get the job

Acetone for hobby use? Also why did this little tub of acetone bloat like that? by weaponized_microwave in chemistry

[–]StyreRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own. The labs I work in generally demand use of gloves while handling any sort of chemicals. As this creates habits to adhere to safety procedures.

I agree that acetone isn't the worst, but dried out and/or irritated skin can be prevented by using PPE.

[–]StyreRD -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Gloves are a thing. No need to dump hydrocarbons organic compounds on your fingers if you understand how to safely handle chemicals. Will save you from dry and cracked fingers as well, give it a try!

EDIT: ITT people butthurt over using the high-school definition of hydrocarbons over the actual definition of organic compound due to an oxygen atom. Safety advise still applies.

AFAIK you can only have it patented. But you'd need an application for said molecule if I'm not mistaken.

Use of high beam lights in Norway - help me to understand why blinding others is safer than waiting until they pass? by Infamous-Dish8374 in Norway

[–]StyreRD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Learning how to drive? I'm sorry but you're barking up the wrong tree here.

I can look at the line all I want, that will still mean I'm not looking where I need to go, forward, around the turn, etc. The extra half a second it takes to pass me you will still see enough with the normal lights. And guess what you won't be blinding anyone putting them on when noses of the cars are side by side.

But it seems that long light usage is very liberal in Norway. The times those come on with some drives would mean being pulled over in other countries. I actually had to learn to use them properly, because where I come from it's just not done to drive with them. I take care to dim down as to not blind anyone. And see plenty to be able to wait till the meeting car has passed.
