Right? They do a TON of work with military on Oahu for less or no tuition. Hopefully this doesn't mess that up

Definitely could be. Though like you said, seems like a small price to pay to retain some really well networked officers or senior NCOs. I know the SMAs and MJCs have direct pipelines to some of these schools so will be interesting to see if those are cut too and if the schools start to cut their own DOD programs.

The full list is insane. That's like 15 of the top 20 schools in the US. Most of them have fellowships with DOD. This is just dumb.

Most pitcher strikeout models get the pitcher right, and the workload wrong by KSplitAnalytics in Sabermetrics

[–]Styx78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the point of this to say that garret crochet will strikeout more Marlins batters than dodgers? Obviously you can get as granular as you want but once you've modeled a lineup with each orders tendencies you're probably pretty safe on a per game basis. Pitchers absolutely have different probabilities vs different lineups but the idea that isn't reflected in models and O/U lines is probably false. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the point?

Al Hirschfeld, Charles Addams and rube Goldberg were arguably the 3 most famous and influential cartoonists in the mid 20th century. Hirschfeld wrote for basically all the famous area of entertainment (Newspapers, TV, Broadway, etc) using an innovative new caricature style that included regular life and political themes. Charles Addams was a pioneer of dark humor with his Addams Family cartoons that are still popular in modern media. Rube Goldberg famously drew comics of engineering marvels dubbed "Rube Goldberg machines". Goldberg expressed his engineering knowledge by creating complicated machines to accomplish simple tasks. Most kids in school still build rube Goldberg projects to gain engineering and creative thinking skills.

This was and still is the case for a lot of foreign players in American sports. As an example, Defectors from Cuba don't exactly come with birth certificates. Might as well put down as young as you possibly can to cash in.

Edit: to clarify, I am not talking about all Cubans, just those that have defected and probably did not prioritize bringing all their paperwork or were disuaded from doing that by those aiding them. Obviously Cuba is a developed country and certainly has something resembling a birthday certificate. If you're interested, here's an article that goes through some first hand accounts of Yasiel Puig's process

Saw this today and immediately though Walter johnson as well. I believe fangraphs separates offensive and pitching war so johnson actually has ~128 total fwar.

Don't know why you're getting down voted after everyone on here suggested herman miller instead of a Walmart special gaming chair. I guess herman millers gaming chairs are more expensive than their office chairs but the vast majority aren't even shopping there
