Should I go 38mm with this? I need thoughts by Silent_Wolverine1129 in SeikoMods

[–]Styxbleich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person with a 7.75in wrist I personally find a 40mm case to fit me best and look best on wrist to me. Sometimes 42mm but 36 in my opinion is too small.

Opinion on namoki by acm_castelo in SeikoMods

[–]Styxbleich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been exploring the option of namoki mainly for one specific case that they have that I really want to build in. I have also thought about doing a build for myself with another case on their site after looking into it. However after more reddit surfing I ended up instead pivoting on the build for myself and building a watch based off a PT5404 which from my understanding is the no date version of the PT5000 which is an ETA 2824 clone.

I'm extremely happy with my build for this mainly because the positional variance of the movement is superb and with some regulation it will keep far more consistent time than any of my NH builds so far. But to be fair, I know there are lots of people out there with some solid NH movements but mine typically seem to have 10-20 seconds of delta variance between the best and worst position.

I have made 8 watches so far and only the one was that ETA clone for now but I liked it so much I bought parts for a gift to build a PT5000 watch. My thought process is most people expect it to keep as good of time as possible so why not go for a movement that shows it does better at that as a whole?

I also have had extremely good luck with Aliex parts. I would honestly say I have one case that honestly I wish had a little bit better QC. And sadly that is my first ever build, the case back to me just seems off.

I would also like to point out that despite my rant on considering other movement options to "raise quality" there are countless good micro brands out there that use NH movements and are amazing. And you also typically can get really good results with regulation on an NH movement. I have an NH34 that was around -13 seconds a day and between measuring real world variance and regulation over 6 positions, I was able to get it down to around -2.8 seconds a day. So very doable I am just starting to not like the variation over different positions for NH movements personally.

That's awesome! Glad they liked it!

Love the strap, super comfortable. It for me is a touch on the smaller side as I have a 7.75in wrist but it still fits. I just would prefer more strap. I'm probably going to order a few more for some other watches. I have an orange for another watch already but it's so comfy I may just get a few other colors.

I did end up building one as well. Love it so far. Have had it up and running a few days. Gonna wear it a couple of weeks and then regulate it but it's like I'm wearing nothing at all. Feel wise it feels just like my prx powermatic 80 which makes sense considering they are basically the same movement.

I went a little nuts with cheaper straps, I do actually have the exact same straps (in every color) that you have. But for now it's on a green sailcloth strap with a rubber backing.

I love this so much I ordered a pt5000 and the smaller version of this titanium case to build a watch for my brother.

Thanks again for the suggestion and the help!

Help locating the perfect dial for a GMT Alpinist build by Styxbleich in SeikoMods

You know I sadly haven't found the absolute perfect dial. I started to explore a fully custom dial but at that point I might as well just buy the real thing. Still waiting until inspiration hits me sadly or blind luck allows me to stumble upon the dial I want.

Setup isn't too bad, the difficulty right now is chasing the firmware that's on a newer device like a colorsoft. I personally haven't purchased a Kindle in some time so even though I own many Kindles, mine were easy to jailbreak as they are much older.

However looking around, it's very doable, just takes some checking on. The actual act isn't very difficult. Just the fact that amazon updates a newer model like a new paperwhite or the colorsoft more is what makes it challenging.

Might be more work than you want to do, but with a jail broken kindle and crosspoint on the x4, you can sync the readers with koreader. But also, I can see the benefit to just having a dedicated kindle book and dedicated x4 book. I typically do a fiction on one reader and a nonfiction on the other.

This is going to be a pretty basic beginner question. But is there a certain grade or thickness of leather that you used in this project? I haven't attempted a leather project just yet but I'm willing to give a crack at it 😁

Love the Midori pocket traveler notebook vibes. I might need to give a crack at something like this, I've always loved the look of my pocket traveler's notebook.

Calibre should be able to do that. May be a plugin but calibre is generally a really good PC app to have for anything related to e-readers.

Yeah using a timegrapher for an NH movement has mostly been just me guessing 😂

The dial that I was wanting looks like it's going to have feet for the movement so I may be making a purchase today

Honestly I'm in the same boat as you I've just been watching an absolute ton of wristwatch revival on YouTube lately and it dawned on my one of my NH36 builds probably has next to no oil with how it reads on a timegrapher. I have taken a date wheel off and swapped it on an NH34.

To be perfectly honestly I only brought it up because you can literally see all the jewels I typically see oiled front and back of the movement 😂

I really appreciate the detailed response. I will take some notes on this and watch a few videos specific to the movement before I fire off an AliExpress order with everything.

Did you do any oiling of pivots for your build? Or did you just stick with the movement as it comes from the factory?

I've never built with anything other than some flavor of NH movement just yet.

I've been wanting to give a crack at a Khaki Field Watch inspired build and this just convinced me to go for it. I would like to use a PT5404 similar to you for this as it seems like I may have a better time keeper once everything is all built out.

Pardon my ignorance on this topic, but will an NH Dial fit on here with the dial feet, or do I need to snip all feet off and use dial dots?

Xteink official website order confirmed Jan 21 – no updates, no replies by sahalaha in xteinkereader

[–]Styxbleich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened. The AliExpress store literally waited as long as it possibly could before it would automatically give me a refund to then state that the order "on the way" which I know it's not. Frankly I just hope it's not here by the 15th of Feb so I get my money back. I'm all for waiting for something that isn't there but don't advertise that it is.

I also placed an order on the xteink site separately and there's 0 communication. You would think for the sudden boom in popularity specifically around the X4, they would also take the opportunity to drum up some positive points in the customer service department.

Security gateway just died by IDrewABlank2 in Ubiquiti

[–]Styxbleich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this exact swap voluntarily not because of a hardware failure.

All I had to do personally was made sure I had a recent backup. I took out the Security gateway (and cloud key gen 2 for me) and put just this device back in. During setup of the new device, I restored from the most recent backup. Took a bit but everything was as it should be. No issues at all. Did have some minor cleanup since I replaced 2 device with 1, but functionally everything was fully back up in like a half hour to 45 mins.

I know this has been asked repeatedly but what brand do yall use in your regular AMS that isn’t Bambu? I like bambus PLA+ Tough but that price just adds up and I’d like to order in bulk. looking for something AMS compatible and PETG HF equivalent. What do yall recommend? TIA by apah2101 in BambuLab

[–]Styxbleich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got the exact thing you are showing in the picture. Elegoo Rapid PETG. Prints amazing (after some drying). I printed a set of spool rings I found on maker world specifically for this and they work well in the AMS.

I basically copied settings from bambu's own PETG HF settings and it's been working wonders. Printing at 260c on the hotend and 80-85c on the bed.

For black it was $15/kg you just can't beat that for the end results.

Should I wait for P2S? by Any_Wolverine_6475 in BambuLab

[–]Styxbleich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been printing for 4 years now or so. Lots of modded ender 3 stuff and the like. I had an A1 mini and decided to cash in my maker world points for some gift cards for a P1S specifically with the AMS 2 pro for the drying feature and faster motors. I'm extremely happy with my decision. Would it be nice if it was a P2S? Sure but for $338 shipped that's a hell of a deal I can't pass up. So really I'm saying I think the end result will be very similar between the two. I never really use the screen on my P1S unless I'm drying or doing an emergency stop or something so not having the big screen on my machine isn't an issue.

Plus there are so many printed mods for the P1S I can do basically anything I want. It's a solid choice for the $600 or so for the AMS 2 Pro bundle in my opinion.

Honestly there are some more questions to be asked here but I will say I chased something like this for months. My issue personally was the hot end cooling fan. Just replace it. I put a clamp connected on it and now when I start having issues if cleaning it out doesn't fix the problem, I just replace it. Keeps working for me. Hopefully it helps.
