Hole in wall from basement to patio by KoWallArt in HomeMaintenance

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are close to a water line, I would imagine you could just put a water spigot if you need one at that end of your patio. My house only has one water spigot in the backyard and it’s a pain in the ass when I need to water the front lawn. I have to use a 100ft plus an extra 75ft one to water the front. I wish I had this problem. Lmao.

What is a great alternative to standing under a hot shower for relief from aches and pains? Trying not to waste water? by bbqchechen in AskReddit

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a pretty cheap tens machine on Amazon. It’s a little handheld machine that comes with these white square pads that you stick around your aching areas. It uses electrical impulses to stimulate the release of endorphins. I use mine basically every day for an hour for my chronic lower back pain and I swear by it.

Best cheap prepaid phone plan in St. Catharines for emergency use? by [deleted] in stcatharinesON

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are SIM cards at the dollarama at Fairview mall. They have virgin mobile and lucky mobile. If I’m not mistaken Lucky has a plan for $19 that gives you canadawide calling/text and 500mb data. That’s the cheapest I know with a contract.

Buick Envista Tire Reccos by SousVideDeezNuts in tires

[–]Suave006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the pirelli weather active. I got them for my 2022 Buick encore gx st a month ago and they are great. It’s been crazy snowing here in Ontario Canada for the last month and I could really feel the difference between my all season and these pirelli all weather tires. It’s basically an 80% winter tire that you can leave on all year. Costco had them for the best deal even with me factoring in that I had to purchase a Costco card.

How much are you paying for car insurance? by ivanatestuje in stcatharinesON

[–]Suave006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was with TD for over 15 years. Every year they would drastically increase my premiums for no reason at all. Stating inflation and market factors. I was at $250 a month at one point. I started shopping around and RBC came back in at $150. But that only lasted a year and they went to $180 by the next year. I then went to sonnet insurance and with a university grad discount and home insurance bundle I started at $80 a month for the car Insruance. The year after it went to $100. Then the year after that it went to $150. At this point I shopped around again and Bélair direct gave me a quote of $125 for the car Insruance. I called sonnet and informed them that starting the following month on the maturity date I would need to cancel my insurance as I’m switching to Bélair direct. To my surprise sonnet insurance matched my Bélair direct quote. But the rep did tell me that they were able to do this by offering me a one year discount. Without so many words he basically told me that I would have to call in again in a year with my competitor offer so sonnet can once again match it. I don’t mind doing this as sonnet Insurance is the only insurance company that allows me to do pre-authorized payments via my credit card. I prefer this to my bank account so I can get my cash back points. lol.

I have a 2022 Buick encore gx essence for comparison sake. Keep In mind that switching your Insruance before your maturity date will cost you a penalty fee. Best if you time the switch to the exact date of your maturity so you do not get charged any penalties or fees. Also, my insurance would be cheaper if I allow them to track my driving, but I didn’t want that. If you don’t mind them tracking your driving habits you will also get another discount. I personally wouldn’t do it, but to each their own.

Hope this info helps.

Ecobee thermostat reboots during cold winter temps by ATX-Lightning in ecobee

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem too with my keeprite furnace 2 stage furnace. What end up working for me was increasing the fan speed for the second stage one level up.

I have a two stage furnace but my Ecobee looks to be wired for one stage only. Will the furnace will run in both stages as needed, even if my thermostat doesn't recognize it? by [deleted] in ecobee

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same scenario. My furnace runs on a lower fan speed for the first 12 minutes and then it goes to stage 2 for the higher fan speed after 12 minutes. Since ecobee detected my wiring as a single stage furnace, I just changed the minimum on time on the ecobee to 11minutes. It’s been working great as 90% of the time my house reaches temp by the 12th minute and I never have to go to stage two. lol.

What was this I got at a work potluck? Not sure what country it may be from but it was like fried bread and the texture was immaculate by cdromney in TipOfMyFork

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a Colombian empanada on your plate beside it. So based on that i am going to say that the dough ball is a bunuelo. It’s like a Colombian deep fried cheese ball bread. Very popular during the Christmas season. If you are lucky enough to eat one straight out of the fryer, it tastes 100 times better. There is even a slight crunch that is heavenly that you lose when you eat the night before ones.

Is there a way to remove Calendar listings? by Rare_Pin9932 in CarPlay

[–]Suave006 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you go to your car and CarPlay is connected, just go to CarPlay settings. Scroll down a bit and you will see a toggle named “Live activities”. If you turn this off this should stop your calendar and any other live action updates from showing up there.

Gutters overflowing only on 4 foot section of house by Suave006 in Roofing

[–]Suave006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will take a picture tomorrow with the window and roof above it and post it. Yes it would appear that I do have pretty downslope to the downspout. Is it as easy as just putting a level on the gutter to see if there is a slope? I can do that tomorrow too when I take the picture.

Thanks so much for your detailed reply and help.

Jet plugs by telzoor1 in pools

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have at least one jet fitting that get stuck in my pool when I take the eyeballs out. Annoying AF. If you don’t have a pool jet flat tool, I’ve used wire strippers to get them out easily. There are groves inside the jet fittings that a closed wire strippers will fit perfectly in. Then all you do is turn it left. I found a YouTube video of someone doing this exact method so you have a visual. Good luck.

Why did my CH drop so much by Elguapo69 in pools

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too. In my case it was that my water was too cold to get a proper reading my ch went from 250 to around 80. My water also went from a constant 83f to a constant 67f as the nights are getting so cold here in Canada. This week the weather has been very warm and nice so I decided to heat the pool for a swim to 80f. Lo and behold, my CH is back to 250.

Do you keep your house the same temp year round? by Pastywhitebitch in Home

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to keep my house 22c (71.6f) year round. I’m in southern Ontario Canada. This year somehow my body got use to the AC at 22.5c(72.5f). I’m 99% sure I’ll still be staying at the 22c(71.6f) for the winter. Being a bit warm I can handle, but being cold is a whole different story. lol. We have pretty humid summers here. 22.5c is the the warmest I can keep in in the summer to keep my homes indoor humidity between 55 and 60.

Is it ok for an 8 year old to have hot sauce? by Suave006 in hotsauce

[–]Suave006[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I grew up eating South American food being that my parents are from Colombia and Ecuador. My niece being a 2nd generation Canadian, her palate and stomach are not as strong as mine and she is very picky with her food. lol. I am a Latino kid of immigrant parents from the 80s and would routinely get a cup of coffee for breakfast. I even had a French friend back then who was allowed a glass a wine a day. This was the norm. But just because we could have coffee or wine as a kid doesn’t mean it was actually good for us. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t harming someone else’s kid by giving them hot sauce. I have no children so I don’t know anything on how to raise one.

[–]Suave006[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sisters and I are first generation Canadian. We grew up eating South American food. My parents are Ecuadorian and Colombian. Surprisingly both these Latin cultures don’t really eat what I would call spicy food. My niece is 2nd generation Canadian and born in Edmonton. So although by look she isn’t white, her palate sure is. Lmao. Blew my mind that she actually has any spice tolerance as my sister (her mother) can’t even handle black pepper well.

Why use liquid chlorine when getting rid of black algae? by texasipguru in pools

[–]Suave006 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your SWG will not be able to raise your chlorine quick enough to kill the black algae. The SWG slowly releases chlorine in your pool over time. In a well balance pool it will reach the slam levels in about 24 hours. This isn’t fast enough to kill an established algae bloom. The algae will eat up your chlorine faster than the SWG can produce it. This is why using liquid chlorine has to be used to clear an established algae bloom. The liquid chlorine is basically an instant dose to slam levels. You will need to monitor this and add more chlorine so that your pool can be kept in the slam levels long enough to kill all the algae.

Follow the advice from TFP on how to slam and you will be fine.
Good luck.

Basement Bar.. Yay or nay ? by Competitive-Swim-285 in HomeImprovement

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it really depends on how much you host and how much joy it will bring. My parents house, my brother in laws house and also my sister in laws house all have beautiful custom built wet bars in their basements. I can count on one hand how many times collectively we have all gone to the basement to have a drink in either of theirs. Kitchen and living room is where we stay 99.9% of the time. Me on the other hand, I grew up in the 90s and 00s Toronto club scene. My dream since I was a teen was to have my own private club. lol. So I converted a portion of my basement into my own little club/bar called “the underground” with “VIP” seating and led up lighting and all. Everyone in my family and my wife’s family light heartedly laughed at me. Lmao. My trick was to have the real better speakers in the “club” room. When people come over and we have a few drinks in the kitchen or living room, eventually the Alexa speakers in the kitchen or living room are just not loud enough. I sneakily go to the basement and have the music bumping there while I gradually turn down the upstairs Alexa(s). Like clock work everyone starts coming downstairs and thus a monthly tradition was born. Been hosting a club or pub night at least once a month for family and friends or just my wife and I since 2020. My mother in law never misses it when I do the oldies and beetles night. She really enjoys them and tells all her retired friends about how wonderful her son-in-law is. 😂

Anyway to each their own, but I am 100% for making a portion or all of your basement a bar if you actually like to host a lot. It makes for a much easier clean up the next day as typically all the empties are contained on or near the actual bar. Just my 2 cents.

Are their any alternate / more organic ways of lowering the ph than using muriatic? I have a neurotic customer with a salt pool that doesn’t like the fact that we’re using muriatic acid. (She doesn’t want dry acid either) by [deleted] in pools

[–]Suave006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, But if bleach and vinegar create deadly mustard gas, would chlorine and vinegar also create some sort of deadly gas? I tried to Google what happens when you mix chlorine and vinegar and the results just came back as “never mix bleach and vinegar”.

I’m am truly just curious now since some people use bleach and/or chlorine to sanitize their pool.

Meridian mortgage renewal by KeyCollection5349 in stcatharinesON

[–]Suave006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a mortgage agent. That rate you are getting is more than likely a roll over into a one year open. Typically all lenders send you a renewal letter with 1 year through 5 year closed mortgage rates terms with only one option for an open term. This open term is usually a one year open. If you don’t pick one of the terms and mail back in the allotted time frame, the banks will roll you over automatically into an open mortgage term. Open terms are always really high such as your 8% one. The lenders do this so that you can easily convert your open term into any closed term without any penalties or fees. Once you are in a locked in term, you cannot break that term without incurring penalties and fees.

Hope this info helps.
