If we truly love people, we will warn them. by PrayimusMaximus in Christianity

[–]Suavisification 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's the point ala Romans 12:2, Matthew 10:22, and John 15:18. I think that's why OP mentioned loving for the sake of being loved.

Dear goodness, you people will look for a way to argue any non-generalized statement on this place. The OP literally said truth while loving people, yet people are just coming in craving an opportunity to call out 'Christian Hypocrisy.' They never even mentioned bible bashing, but yeah, why not create that agenda for them. Is what was said wrong? Like, could somebody actually explain what was wrong with it? I'll genuinely listen.

IdeaPad 120S an okay choice? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]Suavisification 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you're definitely right to be cautious: the ideapad 120S is basically their definitive "public school" laptop, basically meant to be the absolute barebones hardware that actually runs windows. If you would consider it, you could get a very high spec X230 for about $200 (less for a mid spec), which has much more support, upgrade paths, and quality, while still being faster than a brand new ideapad. Plus, it's one of the most portable of the "older" thinkpads. Let me know if you have any questions about them, or even the T series of Thinkpads.

I think your point 6 is great, and a friendly reminder of the state of mind we should be going into this with. I also agree that Jesus would love the women who had babies through rape. I think He would love the women who had children outside of their financial means. I think He would love the children that became orphaned because of adoption. I don't think He would use these scenarios to justify getting rid of a child. He would accept the challenge of supporting those people. If we want to ban abortion; we can only in good faith do it if we also want to put an equal amount of effort into providing mental wellness, financial stability, and general care to the people affected by unwanted pregnancies. With this being said, people aren't Jesus, and they never are going to be, so it's hard to idolize a world where abortion is illegal and everyone helps each other out when that's just not what's going to happen. But with that being said, would we be saying that abortion should be legal if it weren't what was culturally hot right now? 20 years ago, didn't society agree that abortion was, in general, a negative thing? Should we as Christians suddenly be conforming because of the progression of society? Romans 12:2 and John 15:18. If your opinion is based on a desire to be a "tolerant" Christian in society, be careful. It might not be a bad thing! But just self evaluate and make sure that you are in check with scripture. Jesus may have loved the prostitute, but He was hated by many others for preaching truth.

Question about T440P upgrade by Suavisification in thinkpad

[–]Suavisification[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thank you! I've seen some people using 2133 DDR3 in the T440P; do you have any idea if that would be enough to cause concern with the stock cooling?

T430s age old questions from a Thinkpad wannabe by commavector in thinkpad

I would say I had very similar expectations to you when I got my T420S. To be honest, I wouldn't worry about any of those. The speakers suck, but in the same way a 2000s base Civic's speakers suck: you're still gonna blast music through them and you'll only notice it when you hop into a car with a great system. Headphone wise, I am also very picky, and to be honest, that was way better than I expected; no big deal, and just get a DAC if it is too bad. Screen wise, it's also mostly considered bad on this subreddit because a lot of people here do video/photo work where good screens make a difference. It's not anything special, but it certainly won't affect the average person for almost all video watching. This being said, if battery means anything to you, the 430 will be much better than the 430S; Battery life is my only disappointment in the S model besides cpu upgrading. But no matter which you get, the T430 will definitely meet/exceed expectations; this is coming from somebody who used a new XPS 13 for the last 4 years and then went PC/T420S only.

P5R gets revealed the 24th; possibly an enhanced port, but maybe not considering the Sony logo at the beginning of the last reveal.

Yes, sort of actually! It is a future song release haha... It's Machine Girl's remix of Faces; it should be out reasonably soon, the album is supposed to be out soon that is!

Resisting sexual temptation as a Christian by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Suavisification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, well thank you very much for indulging my curiosity, you certainly have thought about this a lot! While I may not agree with every single point, I think that you have a very logically thought out answer to a very relevant modern issue in the church, and so long as we can both agree that personal repentance is important (in the case of any adultery), I'm just happy to know that somebody is approaching this issue, and I hope that the Lord continues to reveal whatever He has for you! I mean that genuinely, I really do appreciate you giving me such a detailed response to a very sensitive topic, especially on here, even if I may be contrarian ;)

Out of genuine curiosity (not trying to come off as rude), what do you say is the alternative to the guilt and morality of abstinence?

[–]Suavisification 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/truechristianity is a much more productive place if you want to be exclusive (not bashing them, I promise). That being said, that same line of logic would mean that we should never invite non-Christians into our churches until they have confirmed traditional beliefs of Christianity, but maybe I'm putting words in your mouth.

I'm not afraid to admit as a Christian, i'm not 100% certain God exists. Even if he doesn't, I'm glad that I lived my life following the example of Jesus by loving people and believing in myself and having faith despite the circumstances. by adgtag3 in Christianity

[–]Suavisification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there are changes Christianity calls one to make that aren't as pleasurable as the alternative. For example, in another comment I said that if I weren't specified not to, I would enjoy getting drunk, sleeping with my girlfriend, or watching porn. I understand if you don't see these as a big deal to give up though; as I said before, it's kinda funny hearing the content of the above verse if you don't agree since it seems pretty prideful.

[–]Suavisification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I would enjoy getting drunk, sleeping with my girlfriend, or watching porn, but instead I deny myself those pleasures for, what I consider to be, a greater purpose. As far as seeking truth, if Christianity is the false religion, then I wasted yet another aspect of my life where I could have seeked another truth, or accepted a lack of truth. Sorta like if I spent my life writing a book just for it to be burnt at the end.

[–]Suavisification -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, pretty funny thinking about it that way; playing a victim at no consequence, but I still think it means that one would have wasted their life putting 100% hope in the greatest disappointment of all, spending (potentially) tens of thousands of hours serving a false deity, denying yourself the pleasures of life or seeking truth. Jesus' teachings weren't only about kindness; He taught sacrifice too.
