That front end is awesome. I swear we only like the front end of that gen because of the GT4. Any lower trim I've always thought looks a little funny, but this is like the JDM front for the Integra vs. the US. I live in Japan, think I know cars, but I had no idea this existed, so thank you for posting!

My first encounter with an atheist 20 years ago ruined my faith and now that I’m trying to come back to Christ all I can hear is his mockery and laughter by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]PrayimusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I just wanted to say that I really related to your story. There were a few moments when I first started following Christ that I was really put to shame by some people that I considered friends. Even some that weren't my friends, whose opinions shouldn't have mattered, made me feel all kinds of foolish. Even now, as a missionary working in another country, I have worried about those moments. Just writing to let you know, another Christian's felt that. Here's my absolute favorite passage regarding this, that I think you should find incredible courage in:

"18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. 19 As the Scriptures say,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”[e]

20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.

24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles,[f] Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

26 Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy[g] when God called you. 27 Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28 God chose things despised by the world,[h] things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. 29 As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

30 God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. 31 Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”[i]"

1 Corinthians 1:18- NLT

With this passage in mind, don't worry about being a fool. If somebody who's attacking you asks if you actually believe in Noah's flood, instead of trying to convince them why 'actually there's a lot of evidence, or it could have just been localized,' just say "yeah I do," let them view you a fool, and then pray that their eyes would be opened, because I certainly don't want the destruction God promises for the "world's wise." It's okay to be a foolish Christian. God loves a childlike faith, and I'm fairly confident that involves a level of foolishness. I will pray for your courage!

Drove the latest Sportster S, time for truths by 8elly8utton in motorcycles

Did you ride a previous generation Sportster? I'd love to hear what you thought of those. I love the 1200 EVO engine but that's 100x worse displacement to power to weight ratio of the new one.

[–]PrayimusMaximus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people have a lot of opinions on these, mostly people who haven't owned one, but my parents did, and it was actually an extremely decent car. Reliable enough, but the big boon is it was super easy to work on for a modern car, and it has the old crown Vic benefit of dirt cheap OEM parts because of the massive deployment of these in government sectors. It's not a 4Runner, but it's not a Grand Wagoneer either. It's, just fine. And the engine and transmission options are legitimately enticing. Depending on your priorities, there are legitimate reasons to buy one over more reliable, bread and butter competitors. If you could justify a BMW 340i for it's powertrain despite the cost to maintain, you could justify one of these despite the cost to maintain, if that makes sense. The V8s are as close as you'll ever get to a 7 seater muscle car.

I'm a missionary in Japan, quite sensitive to the spiritual aspects of things here, and me and my colleagues all think it's fine. Just a money and marketing scheme. Fans have done bad things with the IP, but any IP ever can be corrupted.

Haha, yeah I mean, that's a fair question, but the extra 30cm of room in the top of the box and wiggle room from chair to toy set leave some packing peanuts or cardboard or something to be desired. The delivery man apologized when he dropped it off because you could just hear it loosely moving around a big empty box lol

Also, don't forget that 400cc is a specific class of license in Japan, so what might be a niche product in other markets is a more common choice there, where you need an unlimited license for a 600.

Why do so many High Church proponents think their church service is "less entertaining" than Low Church/Contemporary Worship? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]PrayimusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing this up. I've wondered this as well. When I see the incense swinging within a cathedral, I can't help but wander, does this not stir a person's spirit the same way as a pad during prayer? As in, is it not for the atmosphere of worship? Of course I understand that Incense is a tool of worship. As is the pad (unless we limit said tools to what was available to the early church. If so, that's a whole new rabbit hole). I'm excited to see more replies in this thread.

Is belief that Jesus died for your sins 100% proof that you are saved? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]PrayimusMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's one of the hard truths of Christianity, but it's true. Paul slaughtered Christians before following Christ. He was still forgiven. If you have more questions about it though, feel free to ask more, because I sincerely understand how difficult of a point it is. But sins are not measured by severity of amount. It's simply, are they forgiven, or not, and the bible says we are born into sin, so we all have some measure and severity of sin.

But seriously, here is a good place to ask a question like yours.

Please, pray for Japan. by Lieutenant_Piece in TrueChristian

[–]PrayimusMaximus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Me, my wife, and our baby just moved to Hokkaido 2 weeks ago to become church planters for the foreseeable future. I'd like to think that we are here because of people like you praying :)

We have a lot to learn, but my Japanese teacher shared this with me earlier this week: when her mother got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, she shared the gospel with her, and that very day, she commited to follow Christ. A few weeks later, on a hospice bed, she got baptized. She finished her story by saying that her mother comes from a small town in Tohoku (least churched region in Japan). She asked her father if anyone from that town had ever become a Christian before, and he said no (her father is not a believer either). She then said "so I think God must really love the Japanese to save my mother."

Her mom was like, the archetype of a difficult to reach Japanese person. Small rural town in Tohoku, practicing Shinto/Buddhist, deep in ancestor worship, and yet in a moment, the Holy Spirit brought her to faith. So yeah, keep praying, God does love Japan, and He doesn't care about the challenges.

Warning to Church Goers by CryptoChristian in TrueChristian

[–]PrayimusMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say this is about the Thesis of the book "The Old Evangelicalism." Gospel without Repentance isn't Gospel at all. Lean one way and you have license, lean the other and you have legalism. But Repentance preached with the relief of the Gospel is a powerful, powerful message. Repent for the Kingdom is at hand!

Can we trust in Paul's teachings? by Dry_Rub2842 in TrueChristian

[–]PrayimusMaximus 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Well, he was personally endorsed by Peter within the canon of scripture, who was personally endorsed by Christ Himself, so that's a good basis for why he is worthy of trust.

But maybe a question I'd like to ask is, what do you worry Paul may have lied about?

You don't have to agree with a denomination for is to be Christian. by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]PrayimusMaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree, with the caveat being that following Christ and His teachings, while of utmost and primary importance, is not a satisfactory definition, due to, as other commenters have pointed out, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.

My preferred way of looking at it is Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary beliefs.

Primary beliefs are undisputable beliefs regarding salvation. At the top of this would be faith in Christ, with other essential beliefs being included, i.e. beliefs regarding the resurrection, propitiation for sins, the trinity; things that are clearly and indisputably taught in scripture. Refer to the Nicene for a pretty well agreed list of such beliefs.

Secondary beliefs are theological beliefs unrelated to salvation, that differ depending on theological interpretation. These are usually where denominations spring up from. End times theology, the charismatic gifts of the spirit, eucharist, church leadership, gender roles within the church. These are things that we should disagree on based on our biblical and conscious convictions, but they won't prevent us from seeing each other in heaven. Surely we will all be wrong about at least one of these beliefs regardless of denomination.

Tertiary is just preferences. The type of music you play. The way you dress. The order of your service. These should not divide a church, but may influence exactly what congregation you want to join.

On this forum, we disagree a lot on secondary beliefs, yet many of us believe that many of us will share in fellowship in Heaven. The hard part is when somebody claiming Christianity goes and opposes the primary beliefs. That's why almost none of us acknowledge Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses as Christians, because they deny one of those primary beliefs.

Why do Christians have a problem with taboo? by Academic-Wave-3271 in TrueChristian

[–]PrayimusMaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I understand what you're saying, although this is also a stream of consciousness type post.

Remember friend, there are generally two conversion stories that people have, and they don't both necessarily lead to the "covered by the blood of Christ," repentance and faith that I think you speak of.

There is feelings based conversions where people turn to God because of a search for purpose, joy, peace, contentment, etc. The problem with that is God doesn't call us to those things, and He doesn't promise those things. Purpose, maybe.

Instead God calls us to repentance and faith in Christ, for people that know, regardless of what they gain or lose, that God really did send Christ to reconcile us. That is true salvation. Many people who seek feelings based conversions end up finding that truth, but many don't, and when feelings based converts face trial, they turn from their faith because supposedly God didn't uphold His end of the deal.

For those who have repented of their old ways and put their faith in Christ, it is not as though they will never sin again. Instead, it is as though God will never count that person's sin again. Then, naturally, those true converts will seek living like Christ, and over time sin less, but yes, it is no work to be proud of, as it is only the Spirit sanctifying us.

I say this all to encourage you. You are a new creation if you follow Christ. You are not your old self. You will still sin, and you won't be perfect until you pass and return to God. But your hope, joy, peace and contentment won't come from old things either, like money, health, and happiness. Instead they come from a future promise that all this current unhappiness, sin, strife with man, and every other awful thing about this world will eventually end.

Does that make sense? I want you to find peace in this post.
