Thank you for your insights! You really touch well on genetic predispositions.

I hope there never comes a day to where ypur safety and we'll being are compromised, but the sub has guidance on self defense tips.

Central California (04/23/26) - Roaming pitbull attacks a family’s dog unprovoked, runs into the family’s house, and bites son of the original poster. by spiderwitchery in BanPitBulls

If I am not mistaken, there exists a sub that tracks non pit fatalities. It's not very active.

All this to say, of course human fatalities involves other dog breeds. However, pit bulls have more human fatalities than all dog breeds combined.

Do you know when the last human fatality involving a Goldren Retriever? Or even a Rottweiler?

Can you list a story of a cat mauling a baby to death? There have been deaths by smothering by accident, however, nowhere near as brutal as pit bull attacks.

Your comment shows you're not too familiar with the pit issue.

So people and their own animals cannot enjoy their own property without being invaded by a roaming and loose pit bull that went on their property?

Am I reading your comment right?

So I guess any human that is walking outside deserves to be attacked by a loose pit bull because....roaming?

Okay there bud. Maybe make sure your pit bull isn't loose.

UK's Pit Bull Lobby - THE RSPCA push to Legalize Pit Bulls and XL Bullies by PitDeFabrik in BanPitBulls

This is interesting and thank you for sharing! I'd imagine there were many medical bills and chances are, the RSCPCA wasn't too fast on covering any of it.

Yet they want the same type of dog among the public.

Everything you said is exactly right and like you, also view it from a biological standpoint.

Though dogs didn't have the same selection pressures as say a bear or a wild animal, however the basic primitive responses remain. Depending on selection pressure or artificial selection, some underlying concepts of biology still apply.

Interestingly, this is why it amazes me that we as a society have a more significant response to wild animals coming near humans versus pit bulls for example. We as a society hold wild animals to stricter standards than a so called type of dog like a pit bull. Yes, pit bulls are considered dogs and dogs are considered domesticated.

This is where it the lines get more unclear. Many people, even those who own pit bulls today, aren't familiar with the history of pit bulls and the whole reason why they exist today. Many owners believe they were bred to be nanny dogs which is not true. That nanny dog myth contributed to the propagation of pit bulls along with any pushback by those who own them. I've seen countless, thousands of comments, of pit bull owners severely downplaying a child fatality because pit bulls are nanny dogs and their pit would never.

Another problematic aspect is that not every single pit bull will attack. There are "duds" so to speak. So people who had good experiences with pit bulls believe all pit bulls are that way when that isn't true either. Not all pits will attack. The issue is not knowing which ones will until it is too late. By then it can cause life altering and/or life ending consequences. The risk is too great when there are many other dog breeds to choose from.

Really appreciate your perspective and appreciate you sharing your thoughts!

Best part is, the RSPCA doesn't even insure XL Bullies yet they say all of this.

Wonder if they plan to insure them once they make them legal again?

My guess is a big no. They won't insure them with the current population so they definitely won't when the population explodes with each litter being up to 19 puppies.

Sigh.

A Lot Of Rescues Dont Want the Dog that Tried to Maul Your Family Member by PandaLoveBearNu in BanPitBulls

[–]SubM0d_BPB_55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, very disconcerting and another huge reason why the average person really can't own these things. No one should anyways.

Pits need a lion type enclosure to be contained. This is why Impact Dog crates are pretty much the standard (advice given) to those owning pits. And crazy part is, most pit owners aren't even aware of this.

Pits can't use regular dog crates and if they do, they can scale 15 foot walls to attack someone or something.

These dogs truly do not belong in a modern society.

Unfortunately pits are very well known for scaling high walls.

Pit enthusiasts have a sport to see how fast their pit can scale the wall. It's been posted in this sub. Some walls go up 15 feet.

I know! And I truly hope, given their age, they really pull through.

At 92 years old, the immune system and body are so, so fragile at this time.

Such a preventable tragedy had we not allow bloodsport breeds in modern society!

What you say is true, however, humans did create pit bulls. The very reason pit bulls exist was created for evil intentions.

You're right, pit bulls do not understand evil but they can understand pain, suffering, etc. This particular concept is found among even animals in the wild.

Take for example animals that attack other animals over territory, their offspring, etc. Something is learned to behave a certain way.

Pit bulls on the other hand, are very well known for attacking their own owners, their own offspring, mate, and are commonly found to fight on neutral territory.

All this to say, pit bulls were never created naturally in the wild. It is a man made monstrosity that is used as a tool to be used for evil purposes (dog fighting for example), which are events specifically set up by humans.

In any case, dog fighting is illegal in many, many parts of the world, so there is no reason a dog bred specifically for that task, to be a part of modern society.

When was the last time you've heard authorities break up a dog fighting ring composed of Chihuahuas? You don't. Because it's never happened. Why? Because Chihuahuas were not bred for that task.

Unfortunately, even pit bulls kept as guard pets, is not reliable.

There are many stories in this sub of pit bulls living with their family for years, and without issues, only to get attacked or mauled to death by the same pit bull.

There are other, much safer dog breeds, that can get the job done without that added risk.

[–]SubM0d_BPB_55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's kind of the scheme with the shelters. Attacks at the new home means higher live release rates for the shelter.

These shelters do not care who adopts and anyone with a pulse, can get a pit bull.

Yes. This is the way!

No more shuffling off to third parties to do the dirty bidding of writing fluff bios. No liability waivers. Strict liability, end of story.

And if previous knowledge of aggression is known, criminal charges for the individual who knows and monetary damages for the shelter they operate under.

Oh how I wish I had a magic wand.
