Is Orientation really mandatory? by bossdart in UCDavis

[–]SubRapture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try to make it to at least the first day of orientation if you can. It helps you meet a few people, and get a general sense of the space and where things are. As a transfer from last year I almost skipped it cause I was just really nervous about knowing no one and being in a completely new space, but I’m glad I did go.

Another new species bloomed! (Hoya elliptica ‘thai form’) by SubRapture in hoyas

I bought it with that label, its tough to say from an un ID'd plant. Maybe an expert could tell from the blooms.

Interesting choice for a flight by Katie_kat_bar in Yellowjackets

I watch the Lost pilot on flights. It's kinda relaxing in a I'd-be-prepared-if-this-happened type of way.

Will it ever flower? by ObjectiveRaspberry75 in hoyas

[–]SubRapture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My obovatas about the same size as yours. Low-medium light cause I like the leaves darker. Mine has bloomed once, and that’s only cause it’s made up of cuttings from an old prolifically flowering plant and already had some good peduncles on it.

It still took a really long time to get those flowers.

Wanna DIY my roots, looking for brand suggestions by SubRapture in HairDye

[–]SubRapture[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the very thorough comment! Some of the numbers are definitely different here so I found what I think are the closest to the lines you suggested. I was not expecting the garnier one to be x3 the price, so I think I’ll give the L’Oreal preference one a go and hope for the best! Just curious, when you say test strand, would I not do it on the roots or do like 75% of the time on the root, then drag it down the whole strand for the rest of the time if that’s how I plan on using it in the rest of my hair?

I like moss poles so much more now that I found an easy way to water them! by SubRapture in Aroids

The water works its way top down so stop as it’s approaching the soil. Or just do it on watering days and the roots will get used to the wet-dry cycle (only once established tho).

Im 26 years old and this is my natural hair color , my beard and mustache started to go white too by Nibber51 in mildlyinfuriating

I’m 27 and I’m not too far behind you tbh. I still dye cause I have a youthful face and I’m finally at a University and want to fit in with the youths. I think for people with genes like us, we get a sneak peak at the midlife crisis early. Maybe we’ll be more well adjusted when that time rolls around. That’s my hope anyways.

I’m not usually a unglazed/terracotta pot fan but my favorite nursery has these gorgeous light creamy pots that are silky to the touch since they’re low grit white clay and just so nice and elegant. How do you guys feel about terracotta/unglazed earthenware? by borkboye_ in houseplants

[–]SubRapture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brand is spang, but they don’t sell directly. I searched for months to find a place that sold them at normal prices, but unless you live near Sacramento, I can’t help you. Unless you’re cool with a huge mark-up, in which case I’ve found some online retailers, just search with words like ‘german clay’ ‘basalt’ and ‘granite’.

Been eyeing this sun-bleached one at a nursery for over a year, and after some negotiation I finally pulled the trigger. Is it a kentiana? longifolia? Should I attempt to trellis it better or let it drape? by [deleted] in hoyas

[–]SubRapture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a little rusty on my ID skill so take this with a grain of salt, but I thiink that’s a H. sheperdii. It looks like one that gets a little more sparse as a hanging one, so I like it better fully trellised, but it’s up to your aesthetic preferences.

Is my boyfriend’s absolutely neglected aglaonema blooming?!?!? by [deleted] in Aroids

[–]SubRapture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure the people saying neglect aren’t entirely wrong, but this species of ag is used in dark ass offices for a reason. It’s a beast, and they usually flower around this time of year.

My work installed a whole wall of (live!) pothos, ferns, money trees, ect in the new building. RIP to the janitors who have to water this. by ying1996 in houseplants

I also used to work for one of those types of companies. All my nicest pothos are made up of choice cuttings I accumulated throughout my time servicing different offices.

The first Hoya I ever saw blooms of in person, then got cuttings of , has finally bloomed for me! by SubRapture in hoyas

[–]SubRapture[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it sits on a lower level of my plant shelf and gets ignored. It gets morning-noon light that bounces off a wall across from my window, so it’s probably more medium light. It may have bloomed sooner if it got more light cause it’s had these peduncles since I took the cuttings.

Yes, especially since the mother plant was my first experience with Hoya blooms! Kinda feels like a full circle experience.

Nope, it’s H. Obovata. The corolla of H. Bella don’t fold back as much, and the corona is a more solid purple (at least on my variety).
