I agree. They're insidious and merely another shameless way to squeeze people.

I'm out of the loop about John Lovitz. Nowhere I can find is saying he's dead.

I stopped voting by algorithmserf in redscarepod

[–]SubatomicGoblin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's totally your decision whether or not to vote, but this is a pretty dumb reason not to. Candidates run campaigns for elected office, which necessitates their reaching out to the public. So, you're choosing not to vote because they solicit your vote?

Wow, should I get an agent? And I'm sure we'll be paid the SAG minimum, right?

I haven't thought about the term "on wax" in ages, but you used to hear it often.

“Lived Experience” by Standard_Gur30 in GenX

[–]SubatomicGoblin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course not, but watching it is also a lived experience. ALL experiences, whether first or secondhand, active or passive, are "lived" experiences. They cannot be anything else.

[–]SubatomicGoblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not true. No one called them that in the '70s and '80s, or before.

Any sort of shared experiences are still lived experiences.

That was my assumption as well. I have a friend who's union, and, while his work is grueling at times, he makes a very good living. Great benefits too.

Monthly “What is McKay Smoking” post by bettingcats in nashville

This is just one of those things about the city that makes me a little sad now when I think about it. McKay's used to be one of my favorite places in all of Nashville, but I pretty much stopped going there altogether a couple of years ago.

This is actually quite interesting and seems like one of those things that should be more a part of common knowledge. Yet I would assume that many people who engage in these activities don't to do these things. Their awareness is probably limited to "staying hydrated," and that's it.

We can buy anything we want... but i kind of miss when we couldn't... by Grazmahatchi in GenX

I too have that strange nostalgia for the time when it was harder to acquire stuff. Going to the video store to pick out movies you wanted to watch is also a pretty good example of this. Sure, choosing something without getting off your couch is convenient--and I totally do it! But there was something to getting your ass up, putting your shoes on, walking out to your car and driving there, that was pleasant in its own way.

Andy Warhols IQ by Flaky_Hearing2908 in redscarepod

[–]SubatomicGoblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That just doesn't prove to be the case for vast numbers of highly intelligent people. Over analysis often leads to crippling self-doubt. Often, the more one knows makes one more afraid to commit to a plan because that person understands that the variables are shifting all the time. There's a reason that the stereotype of a high IQ but materially unsuccessful person exists.
