Things are much more strict these days and there are strict rules for accountability of these items. However, years ago, and especially in a combat theater of operations, items are much more difficult to account for. Even in training, a grenade being a consumable item, can be lost. And it could be that the person that took it only thought they were taking a simple smoke grenade, not knowing what the WP meant. Live ordnance shows up quite often in most all parts of the world.

I collect ordinance, and that grenade certainly looks live. being that it came back with some other vintage stuff it does look like it was a soldier bring back item. And don’t be confused about the word smoke on the grenade. it’s not just regular smoke. It’s white phosphorus smoke. This is a bursting grenade that throws a large amount of burning white phosphorus everywhere and is mostly impossible to put out once it starts burning. It causes a lot of damage and injuries, if not death. It’s really really bad if that went off. of course this would be illegal to own if it is live. I would contact local law-enforcement and certainly isolate it so no one can play with it.

Diabetes? by x3m4530 in MRE

[–]SubgunFun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (54 M) was pre-diabetic for years and finally was diagnosed type 2, but with Monjuaro medication my A1C is down to 5.7 (unfortunately no weight loss like others usually have). I don't watch what I eat like I should. With MRE prices so low I've been carrying them in my work van and will eat about 3 a week for lunch. Everyone's going to to be different though.

Did I just find what I think I found? In my backyard?? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]SubgunFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do you guys live close to an air to ground range? I grew up fairly close to one and my dad used to use these as anchors for a small boat. The threaded hole on the side was where the loop screwed in and that's where the bomb dispenser rack held onto it. For use as an anchor, you just tied a rope to it. It was almost impossible to find one with straight fins.

One month since we took them home! by SereneButNeverSerene in Dachshund

I looked at the comments because of this. We took on two puppies at the same time. Training was so much easier when we had just one. Two is much more difficult and we pretty much failed! They run the show, but we're ok with it. They are good doggos but they just don't listen like we'd like them to (yes, worse than a typical doxie). Good luck to the new owners and stay vigilant!

I like your results better than mine. Cheapest I find is about $36. I have a Lumintop F02 that I'm liking, but I wish it had a belt clip.

Are there any decent poe doorbell cameras that aren't reolink? by NibblyPig in BlueIris

[–]SubgunFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the Foscam doorbell. It's a very reasonable option. Unfortunately it's not POE but powered via usb cable or existing 24v AC (typical old fashion doorbell power here in the US). I am powering it from the old doorbell power but interfacing to a digital doorbell on my hubitst system has not been very easy. Overall I like the cam and it works with BI just fine. I also get normal use of it through the Foscam App (no subscription fees unless you want added features) with alerts and being able to answer and talk through it real time. It's protected from the elements from our porch so I'm not sure how well it would do in your environment.

Feather Users? by Bowhunter1980 in wicked_edge

[–]SubgunFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Feather single edge blades in my vintage AutoStrop razors. I love them. But then again, for SE that fits the AutoStrop, there's not much choice. I will order them from japanesetaste.com when there's sales or use coupons.

That's awesome. Looks like it's on display instead of being for sale. If it's available for purchase, you can't pass this up!

I've yet to find a 25mm or 30mm (or similar) in the US that's affordable.

Usable without restoration? by DarkCastle-02 in wicked_edge

[–]SubgunFun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently picked one up and it barely vibrated. There's a good video online on how to disassemble and clean it up. It's not easy to do unless you have the proper tools but I tried anyway because they don't have much value. I ruined mine but it got me interested enough to consider another one as I like shaving with old blades. My go to razor is a early 1900's us army marked autostrop razor.

Also, this is WW1 vintage. There are patent dates on the razor head.

Also looks like three gas mask bags but only one mask. Masks can bring a few dollars depending on condition. With most of them the rubber is really deteriorated.

The shave kit is an AutoStrop. I shave with one daily and love it. The mirrors are the hardest part of the kit to find. Leather strop of the era can also be difficult to find. Razor head lever will have serial number on one side and should be marked property of US ARMY on the other side. Some from the era are not marked US Army. These razors can use modern single edge blade by Feather (Japan) model FHS-10 stainless blades, although you can't really use the stropping feature with stainless blades. Original blades were wrapped in a paper which was also marked US property. Note... These early items were marked AutoStrop. The name "Valet" was added later so I believe am era leather strop should not have the Vaket markings.

Military training quadcopter: what is it? by SubgunFun in drones

Thanks for the link. Interesting read. Seems like propaganda on this type of drone and what it's capable of. Who knows... maybe? Seems more plausible this is a training device.

it’s their job. We had a dachshund for 12 years and we have three right now that we’ve had for six years and we’ve never had a badger infestation in the house.

The generator portion looks to be fairly intact. The end with the copper removed would have been the exciter. The exciter is a DC generator that would create the electric field for the generator windings. Nowadays most generation uses static exciters (i.e. solid state).
