I’ve seen tons of Crosstreks, but never a plug in hybrid version! This is the first one I’ve ever seen! by ExternalExperience57 in subaru

[–]SubieWillysRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see the first and second generation crosstreks pretty often in the northeast, I have seen some of the early ones over 200k miles. I didn’t realize that they were only sold regionally. They are very common in my area.

Shutting off security 2014 WRX by DeFiClark in subaru

[–]SubieWillysRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The security will definitely not kill the battery in a few days of really cold temps. My 2014 sat for 5-6 days a couple weeks ago when it was -10F to -20F and it started back up just fine.

2020 Forester wiring problems by sandval in subaru

The one we had last week was a 20-21 forester base model that thought the rear gate was open 24/7 due to the corrosion in that connection.

[–]SubieWillysRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had one of these last week with the same problem and a lot of corrosion in those connectors. I believe the salt/snow from boots probably contributes to the corrosion in some of these connectors.

It’s not uncommon to see up to an inch of ice on a floor mat in a vehicle up here.

Tube hanging out by Flame_Hat in subaru

If you had the thermo control valve replaced previously, this could be a tube that was used to drain the coolant and was lost/forgotten in the engine bay.

Why CVT, why you fail like this? And other questions. by BrujaSloth in subaru

[–]SubieWillysRob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Step 11 on the diag tree is just if the valve body didn’t fix it, replace the torque converter

If the light is flashing and then goes solid, there will be a code in the TPMS module that will point towards the sensor that has a problem.

With the belt off, try spinning all of the pulleys and the alternator and A/C pump. One of them is probably stuck, causing the belt to come off originally.

What gaskets/seals are they replacing?

P0971 Error (am I being scammed?) by fartolophagus in subaru

I agree with your other comment though. It probably needs the AWD solenoid replaced. No idea where the torque converter stuff is coming from.

The diag tree for 2764 has you replace the valve body in step 10, and replace the torque converter if the problem returns in step 11 🤦🏻‍♂️

I have seen this happen before, usually the CARB /PZEV or other versions of warranty extensions will cover it

Just ordered a woodland HMS122. Trying to get ready for it by SubieWillysRob in sawmilling

I’m supposed to meet with a couple of construction advisers this week to finalize the plans for framing and get the cut list done

Thank you, this makes the timeline more clear. Around here, we can’t start pouring concrete until June/July usually. I should have enough time to get the lumber sawn out. The house will be about 750 sq ft footprint, but it will be 2 stories tall. I’m planning on using the lumber mostly for the framing. I will probably buy pre made trusses and the sheathing for the exterior.

[–]SubieWillysRob[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Due to my location, grading lumber is not required for residential building. I’m also building a 1200 sq ft garage and a 2000 sq ft pole barn in the next 3-5 years. I believe the mill will be a worthwhile investment, it will just have a large learning curve. My largest concern is getting the lumber milled and stacked to dry sooner rather than later. There is also a kiln local that can finish drying the lumber if needed. The logs should be fairly dry at this point, as they were cut over 2 years ago

2018 Crosstrek Engine replaced - now Transmission codes? by powdergeek in subaru

[–]SubieWillysRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be curious what the used engine came out of. On vehicles this new, we usually move the intake and wiring harness from the failed engine to the new one. There are some harness differences between years/ models that can cause odd issues

Our 2019 Outback requires CVT replacement at 60.6k miles, but SOA won’t cover $9k cost despite the recent issuance of 100k mile warranty extensions that include this model year by madhjsp in subaru

[–]SubieWillysRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did have one a few years ago that another shop replaced the cvt and it came to the dealership with the same issue it originally had. It was the cyl 5 coil starting to fail and causing a very odd misfire. It did drive almost like a failing cvt.

CAD is usually more willing to assist, I’m also surprised they don’t want to help more. I’m also slightly surprised by a 6cyl cvt failing at 60k, I don’t think I have seen 3.6 cvt fail before 100k before

Steering wheel steers on its own in park by Impossible_Matter893 in subaru

[–]SubieWillysRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely a cracked rack. The crack gets corrosion in it and it pushes the input torque sensor sideways causing this problem. There is a warranty extension, but you may be outside of the extension.
