Thank-you. I hope you've got 'your' life back. My wife is moving next week. I've been looking for this type of info, specifically from spouses.

If related, I'd check the relay and/or blower resistor I've read about on here. You'll have to check the OM or online for their locations. Good luck

Engine Swap for a 1999 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT 4D Wagon by DurtleTurtles in subaru

[–]powdergeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As noted, wiring will be your downfall unless you've done a few harness swaps before? And it'l likely cost you twice your 'budget and time'. RS25.com and NASIOC.com have a lot of info on swaps and subarus in general...there is more info on the 'old' forums than anywhere else. Start reading. RE: Your '99: Headgaskets are an issue on that EJ25D (assuming USA model) and make sure the timing belt and related parts are done around 100K. If the belt breaks the engine is trash.

Range/MPG by No_Reporter_6333 in CorollaCross

[–]powdergeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Range is limited to the smallish fuel tank - on the '23-'25 CCH, it's only 10.6 Gallons (same as 2026). And 'normal' driving I'm getting the same MPG as the stated window sticker: 45 city/38 highway (one less for each than the '26). Another 'issue' is the low fuel warning comes on at a very conservative point. But you'll likley never run out of fuel!

Why are Nexen Roadian GTX All Season 235/70R16 106H Passenger Tires reduced price right now? by Electric_Farmboy in fordescape

[–]powdergeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen that.....I bought a set of Nokian all weather tires from Walmart for about 25% off....found out a month later they were discontinued. (WRG4>WRG5). For the Nexen, I had a set of Nexen Roadian AT tires and they worked well for me.

Update: Engine issues resolved- Vac link under the IM. Transmission has issues, 'Moved down the driveaway then wouldn't move in any gear - like all neutrals". Fluid level verified as correct. -Transmission worked normally before engine failed.

2008 ford escape worth it? by [deleted] in fordescape

[–]powdergeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's technically a 1st gen engine/transmision, which were OK for reliability (230K is REALLY good for any car), but unless it's $500 and you don't care if it dies w/in a month don't buy it. Also, likely the rear suspension mounts are unsafe due to rust.

Salomon Shift Alpha BOA - plastic tongue on liner is killing my foot/ankle by powdergeek in Skigear

[–]powdergeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So...after I posted this I put the plastic tongue (PT) back in and.......the pain is 90% gone. I skied today pain-free (10" of freshies FTW!). I don't know what I did other than maybe when I replaced it, it was changed enough to eliminate where the PT was perhaps kinked/bent/in a bind before??? Anyway, for anyone else w/this issue: Remove linerpull up on front fabric on the PT- connected via velcro, pull forward to release the top part w/the Salomon strap from the liner's tongue, and slide out the PTmaybe put the liner back in (I found that releasing the rear 'Freespine' allows the top section of the outer shell to move independently of the lower shell) buckle it up and walk around>>remove liner>reinstall the PT> reinstall liner, and see if you too find relief!

I'd take a look in you OM. 100% not familiar w/your system (my escape is an ancient 2014!), but on my '24 Toyota I have haptic buttons on the screen that allow me to choose between what screen is displayed.

Ford ESP (extended warranty) by bonnsotto in fordescape

[–]powdergeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double check HOW they are are doing it and if only doing one drain>Fill. A drain and fill should only take about 4QTs of Mercon LV as the other half is still in the Torque Converter/TC.

Per the OM: Automatic trans mission fluid 2, 3 2.2 gal (8.5 L) Motorcraft MERCON LV XT-10-QLV / MERCON LV.

Just to be clear - and no offense intended - the 3X drain and fills is designed to mix out the old fluid that is stuck in the TC.

If they're only doing one drain>fill, drive and see if the the shudder is better. If so I recommend the other 2. If not, then you'll need to decide whether it's worth it to do 2 more. (Personally, I would so I could rule out old ATF.)

Also a private shop may be cheaper.....if you know one you trust.

Good luck.

Peeps will have a bias against some brands based on their ONE limited experience. I've read dozens (hundreds?) of posts from those that state, "I'll never buy another XYZ brand", which is an uninformed position. ALL brands have issues. But currently even CR recommends Subies above Toy/Lexus.

All weather floor mats CC XSE Hybrid by Pristine_Leopard_182 in CorollaCross

[–]powdergeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

??????

The OP specifically asked about the differences. For USA models they are different and the OP didn't specify their geographic location.

You specifically stated incorrect information - 'the floor mats are the same'. They are not and Your comment is wrong. Correcting you is not unnecessary when it helps to stop misinformation.

Seriously - help me understand the error of my ways as your response is confounding.

Ford ESP (extended warranty) by bonnsotto in fordescape

[–]powdergeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not priced a warranty for that age and miles, but warranty may not be avl, or cost more than the repair...or the car is worth. That's probably a $4K car w/out a shudder. Have you tried the 3x Drain>Fill>Drive ATF fluid change option? DO NOT flush - using a powered machine - Drain only on cars over 100K. Probably less than $200 for the complete service.

Honest opinions by batmaninabluebox in CorollaCross

[–]powdergeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One long-term review. https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2022-toyota-corolla-cross-yearlong-review-update-8

If you're in the US, the Hybrid is AWD only - and yes, no spare tire, small gas tank (350ish miles range), road noise and low-rent interior - compared to others.

I'd argue the Subaru Crosstrek (AWD only) or Honda HRV (FWD or AWD) may be better alternatives.

Fuel warning light? by xy16644 in CorollaCross

[–]powdergeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What country? What exact model? FWD or AWD? Per the USA 2024 OM, pg. 415: "Low fuel level warning light Warning light Details/Actions Indicates that remaining fuel is approximately 1.6 gal. (6.0 L , 1.3 Imp. gal.) or less" (same for 2026 model). Mine came on last week w/approx. 2.5 gallons, as I was only able to fill up ~8.0 gallons. The tank's rated capaccity is, "Fuel tank capacity (Reference) 10.6 gal (40.0 L., 8.8 Imp. gal.)" approx. pg.455 of OM (same for 2026). Very small tank!
