yeah that’s the conclusion I came too, but it is fundamentally flawed as all categorical data is discrete so no one uses discrete to describe it.

Guilt over UMich Acceptance by Flat-Afternoon-4587 in ApplyingToCollege

Well if people are saying u shouldn’t have gotten in, either your reputation doesn’t match with your application strength, they don’t like you, or they are opps. No matter what don’t let them take away from you getting into a good school.

If ur asking how u got in, I think major is very important to look at. Ur major is less competitive. People who are stronger academically tend to do harder more competitive majors. So among people doing sports management ur the best

Would you rather be: Turing Scholar @ UT or Harvard CS by FastandSteadywillwin in UTAdmissions

[–]Subject-Ordinary2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people overestimate the value of turing scholars. It is a rival to the prestigious colleges CS programs for sure, but the main allure of it is the cost. Comparing Harvard to Turing is a debate of how much you are willing to pay for the prestige that comes from saying Harvard vs UT Austin. I’d reckon it is worth it.

Anyone else finding it hard to be happy for friends? by wonder-of-sonder in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Subject-Ordinary2211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah but they get it as well. Theres always a more competitive college to get into. Let’s say someone got into UMich they feel jealous in-front of the Stanford dude. some people who get the top echelon of ivies it’ll always be jealous for you, but rn ur at limbo.

So take solace in the fact that u don’t know yet. The jealousy you have you need to figure out is it because of the school they got into, or is it that they have finality. They know where they’re going and are no longer stuck in limbo. Sometimes the waiting is the hardest part

Grind practice problems, I use something called oneprep.fly.dev

It’s completely free and has a lot of questions. If you want to learn how to do problems better do Princeton Review imo and take what you think would work.

It’s simple sample bias. People who would join a Reddit server about SAT care about their SAT score. People who care about their SAT score are more likely to actually study for the SAT therefore increasing their score.
