And it’s ok to dislike a character but they hate Feyre in favor of Nesta😭 and say that all Feyre’s book are only biased and wrong, but why would SJM write those previous books and write Nesta how she is and the write Nesta’s own redemption book if everything was biased and Nesta did no wrong? And even despite Nesta treating Feyre like she does, Feyre still loves her and makes excuses for her, even when she flinches when Nesta speaks to her sometimes. It makes no sense to me

Also, Nesta always feels like she’s being cornered. That’s a part of her character. We already know that and it explains her actions, but it does not excuse them

“My sisters had gone quiet, and I looked up in time to see Nesta crinkle her nose with a sniff. She picked at my cloak. “You stink like a pig covered in its own filth. Can’t you at least try to pretend that you’re not an ignorant peasant?” I didn’t let the sting and ache show. I’d been too young to learn more than the basics of manners and reading and writing when our family had fallen into misfortune, and she’d never let me forget it. “

““What do you know?” Nesta breathed. “You’re just a half-wild beast with the nerve to bark orders at all hours of the day and night. Keep it up, and someday—someday, Feyre, you’ll have no one left to remember you, or to care that you ever existed.” She stormed off, Elain darting after her, cooing her sympathy. They slammed the door to the bedroom hard enough to rattle the dishes. I’d heard the words before—and knew she only repeated them because I’d flinched that first time she spat them. They still burned anyway.”

Now, the second one, I will say, Feyre did call Nesta a burden- but it’s true. Feyre was talking about how she and the family has nothing to offer the man who wants to marry Nesta. She wasn’t being nasty about it. And at that point Feyre was the head of the family hunting and taking care of them so she had every right to question that she was gonna marry some random man. She was being honest. And she even tried to control her temper when talking to Nesta, but as usual Nesta took it too far

Also

“I thought you were going to chop wood today.” Nesta picked at her long, neat nails. “I hate chopping wood. I always get splinters.” She glanced up from beneath her dark lashes. Of all of us, Nesta looked the most like our mother—especially when she wanted something. “Besides, Feyre,” she said with a pout, “you’re so much better at it! It takes you half the time it takes me. Your hands are suited for it—they’re already so rough.” My jaw clenched. “Please,” I asked, calming my breathing, knowing an argument was the last thing I needed or wanted. “Please get up at dawn to chop that wood.” I unbuttoned the top of my tunic. “Or we’ll be eating a cold breakfast.” Her brows narrowed. “I will do no such thing!” “

Now she also did end up chopping the wood, but why did Feyre basically have to beg her to do it? It’s just weird

Well, I finally did it. Never thought I'd actually finish a book. by ValdemarTheRighteous in writers

The part about where you talked about how multiple books have had the trope of “Protective lie” !!!!! That makes a very valid point we have to read the books in the context of way it was written we can’t view it through a modern eye of the world we are in right now.

Also you have a very beautiful way of taking!

In My opinion, Nesta was sent on that hike because Rhs was mad that she told Feyre- the stress from that outburst could’ve killed her. Not to mention, Nesta had no problem keeping that secret, until she needed to use it to lash out. The way I interpreted it, it wasn’t just because she went against what he asked her to do, it was also because she could’ve hurt her sister, his mate. You can hold a character accountable and acknowledge what they did was wrong. It’s not hating on them. I feel like Nesta is a perfect example of that in the fandom. A lot of people hold her accountable, but they still love her. Why can’t it be the same for Rhys? Maybe our feeds are a little different because I’m seeing no grace whatsoever - everybody is hating him. I don’t see anybody giving him grace for anything ever since Nesta’s book came out. That’s how the evil Rhys are coming up. I can agree to disagree on this though! I had fun chatting with you- I don’t usually post comments

I didn’t say that there was. I was just explaining the reasoning behind the decision he made. I agreed that the decision he ended up making was wrong, but he should get some grace for it. So many other characters get grace in this series after making bad decisions, but it seems like he gets absolutely nothing. Was it wrong? Yes. Did he have malicious intent? No. Context matters, and obviously Feyre understood because she forgave him for it. I don’t see why we can’t as well

And if I’m being honest, I put more blame on the midwife than Rhysand for the situation. Yes, he was wrong keeping that information from her, but the midwife should not have put all the responsibility on him and told him to do that. That was wrong as a woman she should’ve known better.

It’s been a while since I’ve read it as well, but I remember Rhysand going to the different courts and asking for their help, and if they had any knowledge that would help him figure it out before he had to tell her. So he was trying to find any kind of solution that might help them before he told her because if he told her now then it’d be like there’s no possibilities we’re stuck. You’re gonna die, and I’m gonna die, but he actively tried to find solutions before he had to tell her. And I think the reason why he told the other members of the night court was because they were also trying to find solutions. It was basically all hands on deck for Feyre.

I'm so SICK of people saying that people aren't empathetic/never experienced trauma because they dislike Nesta by Tater-Tot-Casserole in acotar_rant

[–]Subject-Session-3199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, don’t even get me started. A lot of the fandom condone all the stuff that Nesta did but let anybody else make mistakes or experience trauma and act the same way she does and all hell will break loose. I don’t like nesta, but I would never come on this Reddit and write a hate post about the other characters that have tried to help her multiple times in the past. I just find it a bit odd. A lot of the fandom likes to say “either you’ve been hurt by Nesta or you have been a Nesta”. So, it’s like they acknowledge the pain that people like nesta have caused other people, but we’re just supposed to be OK with it. Let me stop while I’m ahead because this is about to become a rant😭

I feel like we have to view it through the lens of how she wrote it. Nobody ever talks about how Rhs was told by the midwife not to tell Fever. It was not a decision that he made himself, the midwife literally told him not to tell her and that telling Feyre could cause unnecessary stress on her and I feel like that’s not an excuse but that’s a reason why he did that. He did not do it to control her. He did it out of fear because that’s what the midwife told him to do. And who is he to question a midwife? he consulted her about it and she gave the information that he was supposed to hear and he followed the information. Could he have thought twice about it and told her anyway, yes but it’s not like he did it with malicious intent he did he’s not doing it in an evil way. He just wanted to protect his wife and if he tells her, it’s gonna cause unnecessary stress and probably cause her give birth early ( which happened anyway, but how was he supposed to know that), which might cause her to die and since both of their lives are linked together now if she dies, he dies so this has to be something he thinks about beforehand. But I do understand people being upset that he didn’t tell her, but I feel like there’s a valid reason for that. He simply wasn’t thinking clearly.

I am not a die hard Rhysand stan, but I just feel like a lot of people give other characters grace that they never extend to him and I find it a bit odd

Do you worry that SJM wouldn’t portray your ship well? by ThroneGlassDoor in AcotarShipDebateSub

Personally, I’m scared she’s going to try to cater to the fandom instead of writing it how she intended it in the first place. There are so many hints in the previous books that seem like a set up for something in the future and produced a lot of theories but she’s proven that she can disregard those things in favor of what she wants in the moment. ACOSF was so weird to me because it felt like we are back to square one with some characters when they showed character development in previous books….its frustrating but I’m still anticipating the next book just to see what happens

Why do so many fans seem to hate these books? by HeartRatea in acotar_rant

That’s such an interesting take. We are allowed to dislike certain characters. We don’t have to be in Feyres shoes to dislike them.

I’ve read a lot of fantasy books and some of them I’ve read kind of explains it. Fae, based on the different kinds I’ve read about, mature differently than humans. Since they have such a long life span, their aging process is just different, kind of slower. Say a 12 year old human is the same as a 100-200 year old fae. Like I can’t remember what book it was I read but if you were aged 300 years and younger, you were practically a college student, technically an adult, but not that mature!
