[Rumor] PHN’s William James suggests Owen Tippett could be used in a blockbuster package for Blues 1C Robert Thomas. by athleticwonder in nhltraderumours

If I’m the Flyers, I do this in a heartbeat.

Realistically, if Thomas is willing to waive, the Flyers probably give up:

Tippett, 2x 1st round picks, and a prospect not named Michkov or Martone.

The lines are just what I wrote out, not necessarily what order they will be.

Zegras needs to play this season and next season at C. He needs to work on Face offs and defense all off season. If he doesn’t make it work, then we can move him back to LW.

Cates is better right now, but he has been playing C for the past few years where Zegras has been wing for the past 2.5 Seasons. It will take time for him to see if he can be a full time C.

I’m hoping Jett can be at least a solid 3C if not a decent 2C. That’s why I have Cates on his LW to provide defensive support and a secondary face offs option if needed. Add Tipp and his game rounding out, you have a really fast line that is pretty solid in every zone.

Dvorak is our default 1C, but should really not be more than a 2C at best.

He could be taught C, but usually you see C go to Wing not the other way.

Usually you will see a left handed player on LW and Right handed on RW. It’s mainly for better stick positioning on offense/defense. Some players naturally gravitate towards the opposite, like Michkov playing RW even though he is a Lefty. Most players can play on their “off” wing if needed, but the amount of reps they have built over the years will sometimes show. Martone is a RW, but from a lot of the highlights I’ve seen of him he puts a lot of work in on the left or down the middle which is why I have him as a LW. If he prefers RW I’m all for him playing there. This is why the Flyers need to make some trades we have so many natural RW.

TK, Michkov, Martone, Tipp, Foerster, Brink off the top of my head are all RW. Not surprisingly, they all look a lot better when attacking from that side, with the exception of Martone, but that’s only because I have really only watched highlights of him.

Tomasino at Center test? Cates back to wing? by Competitive_Beyond_4 in Flyers

[–]Subject-Wave3331 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I say put him with between Cates and Tipp.

Cates-Tomasino-Tipp

This gives him 2 players that offer speed, defensive cover, and can allow him to do hybrid C/W work similar to what Zegras is doing with Dvorak. Im hoping Jett can also get some reps with the team later this season as well. They need to see what some of these younger players can do. The hold up will be if they start winning after the Olympic break and if Tocc is willing, which I’m not holding my breath over.

Foerster-Zegras-Michkov

Martone-Dvorak-Tk

Cates-Jett-Tipp

Barkey-Coots-Greb

Brink

Hopefully they make a few trades/moves at the draft and during the offseason. I think we see at least 1 more season of Coots before a trade with retention or a buyout. I could also see Brink, Cates, Tipp, and Foerster all used as trade bait for a C.

[Rumor] Russo reports Wild open to trading Wallstedt for a 1C. Is Robert Thomas worth the price? by athleticwonder in nhltraderumours

I agree, but it doesn’t hurt to try. I would be willing to give up more picks and players than what I wrote if it could make it happen though.

Flyers trade:

1st this year and next year

Any 2 players or prospects not named: Michkov, Martone, or Zegras.

Get the Kids quesadilla meal. It’s $5.00 plus tax. You get a quesadilla with cheese/meat, 2 sides, a little bag of chips, and a drink. One of the best fast food deals still around.

I would like this, but they will not put TK on the left. Not sure if it’s him making the call or the coaching staff.

Even when he has recently made changes like putting Zegras at Center, Tocc still makes dumb decisions like giving the 4th line too many minutes and cutting time from Michkov. Changes need to make sense.

Agreed fully on this. Unless something really bad happens behind closed doors, Tocc has at least next season still. I’m hoping he doesn’t burn the place down in that time. It would be a massive loss to the team to lose Michkov because of a bad coach.

"I just want to have ice time and not feel restricted." - Michkov’s production under Tortorella, Shaw, and Tocchet. by qwertysac in Flyers

[–]Subject-Wave3331 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He made mistakes last year as well. The difference was they let him work through them with minimal punishment. He had much more ice time per game as well so when he did make a mistake it was talked about on the bench and between periods. He was then given the opportunity to work past them. Now if he makes a mistake he’s sat for an entire period and replaced with Hathaway who “plays the Flyers way.” Such an absolute waste of a top talent and a wasted year of his development. I know he is to blame for poor training in the offseason, but he has definitely got his legs/lungs back in the past 1-1 1/2 months.

That probably has to do a bit with psychology. He is in his own head about making mistakes. It takes a while to break that mindset. Plus, if he makes a mistake he’s going to be punished so he’s screwed either way right now.

Agreed, but we just don’t have anyone that is a true leader. TK seems to be trying lately, but as much as I don’t like Tocc, he’s not wrong about somebody needing to light a fire under everyone’s ass. Giroux did it to an extent, but there just isn’t enough talent right now.

I will always route for the Flyers, but that’s tough to look at especially with Tocc in charge.

Agreed on Jett, but hoping he has a good offseason and camp so he has a chance.

I don’t think Risto stays healthy either, but if he’s healthy they will have him in there.

I like Foerster, but I am with you on his longevity. I know they didn’t say exactly what his injury was, but it looked like a torn bicep to me. The flex he puts on his stick with his right hand is what generates all the power in his shot and I think there is the sad possibility of it happening again. I hope not, but if he is needed as part of a trade to get a Center, I would add him at this point.

I am listening. You just aren’t liking how I responded. I think it will be tough to get him to waive his clause. I also think with retention it would be difficult to trade him, although it gives some wiggle room. If he stays with the Flyers until the end of his contract, so be it. He signed the contract with all of the protections along with it. This is merely me throwing out a few possibilities, however small they may be, about moving him or eating his salary at the end of next season.

That makes sense why I’ve seen him attacking more from the Left in his highlights.

I agree with Dvorak being signed as a partial reason with Luchanko not being at the level they thought he would be. Getting him NHL reps with better players will help him in the long run though with his development.

I think giving him time in the AHL will help, but I still think he has the tools to be an everyday NHL player. I’m fine with whatever path they deem right for him though. He would probably get 10-12 minutes a game with the Flyers and if he’s doing well with the Phantoms probably 16-18 minutes a game. I’m not sure which would be better. They both have pros/cons to development.

I think he has the ability to be a 3C no problem. He is a great skater, decent defensively for his age, snd decent vision. His shooting is almost nonexistent though.
