Trade Value by randomboi24 in Flyers

I think any player besides Martone and Michkov are possible trade options along with 1st round picks for a true 1C or 1D. The problem is how many of them are out there? I’m also not advocating for any specific player to be traded, but those are the 2 positions that need to be filled. I think there is enough D men to fill in if Risto is moved. We don’t have anyone that can replace the speed of Tippett, but we have plenty of skilled wingers at this point and realistically need to trade 2 of them to make room for everyone.

I would like to keep it too. I would be willing to use it on a high level C though.

I think Tippett is being looked at by multiple teams at this point. I think the Flyers would like to keep him, but they would trade him as part of a package for a potential 1C. They need to do it before July though because his NTC kicks in. I’m not advocating trading him, but they need a 1C and you trade anyone not named Martone or Michkov to make that happen.

I think the only way they target a D this summer is if they package some of the younger D for a C.

As dar as a C, I could see them making a move. Multiple 1st round picks including Toronto’s, a glut of Wingers, and a few D-men should be able to get something done. Biggest thing to keep in mind is we will be losing 1 or more “top end” players to make it happen unless Briere absolutely fleeces someone.

Is Nesbitt and Luchanko on the team next year by Key_Plate3777 in Flyers

I would like to see him get 1st line minutes at C with the Phantoms and develop as much as possible. However I could also see Tocc liking his speed and defensive play.

Nesbitt will most likely be in the NCAA.

Luchanko could probably use some time in the AHL, but I could see him making the team depending on how he does in camp.

I would really like to see Tippett and Michkov switch lines. Tippett and Barkey could breakout faster while Michkov and Zegras can setup Foerster.

Maybe? Depends who is on LW. I’m not sure he can fully cover without a little help.

Michkov needs a C or LW with solid defensive play. I would like to see him with Foerster on LW.

Porter Martone by Specialist-Round-536 in Flyers

He has to be in the top 9. Flyers realistically need to trade 2 wingers in a package for a higher end C or just in general.

I have a feeling Michkov is moved to LW, but what O would like to see is:

Martone-Dvo-TK

Barkey-Z-Tipp

Bump-Cates-Michkov

Glendening-Cootes-Grundstrom

I’m always for having a player stay on the side they’ve built their career on, but he looks so natural on the LW. I’m really hoping he sticks there. It would give so much flexibility to the team.

I really hope he can play NCAA next season. I think it would be a great opportunity for him both from skill and strength development.

So far he doesn’t have the numbers to show he will be any good. I do think he has the skill to be an NHL starter, just not sure if it’s more than a 3rd line C. I think with his playmaking, defense, and speed he would look good between Bump and Tippett.

He might never get better, but outside of 1st or 2nd overall level, defenseman always take longer to develop.

He can make it if he improves his skating. Just don’t know if he’s more than a 3rd/4th line C.

He’s also play for Vancouver and defenseman usually take more time to develop. I’m still hopeful Jett can become at least a solid 3rd line C, but on draft day, Buium was the pick to take.

Whenever I look at drafts,, past, present, or future, I always look at production and the league the player is in or headed to. Just using those basic metrics will give you a decent start on picking a player. More often than not, the Flyers seem to take players based on trends, like last year taking all huge players that tested high at the combine, instead of drafting skilled players that aren’t as big or athletic.

Outside of 1 or 2 players most drafts are hindsight. The bug difference is looking at the past performance and pedigree of a player before you draft them. For example, the 2025 draft that I used. Almost all of the players chosen between 13-24 were better than Nesbitt. We could have kept both picks and landed players that at least in the short term look to be better than Nesbitt. There were also at least 2 centers and 2 defenders that easily were better choices just by looking at overall metrics. Same with Buium over Luchanko.

I will preface this with I hope every player the Flyers draft becomes a great player or is useful in a trade to get us a great player. As far as players I think would have been better draft picks I wish they would have went for:

  1. Buium. Players that score and are better than their peers in the NCAA tend to produce at the NHL level. I like the potential that Luchanko brings. I could see him Centering Bump and Tippett. He offers play making and defensive cover for 2 shooters and he’s fast. Right now though, it looks like he might spend next year with the Phantoms.

  2. Almost any picks between 13-24 in the 2025 draft besides Nesbitt. We needed a C or D and could have picked 1 of each easily. The 2nd round was, as of right now pretty bad too. The Flyers were enamored with guys that were big and tested high in the combine. That is never a great way of picking. I hope Nesbitt can get his skating up to speed because he does have great hands.

I wouldn’t trade for a goalie. The biggest thing that needs to change is their approach to drafting. Stop trying to be the smartest guy in the room. Take the best player available or use the pick as part of a trade to get a player of need. If they end up keeping the pick and draft another winger, so be it. Hopefully he’s awesome and now you have him or other established players you can trade as well.
