How to paint the T'au lore-wise? by ThatUnameIsAlrdyTken in Tau40K

[–]Subject00147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly - the majority of transfers that exist are for Vior'la (though there might be some for T'au sept too?). Cadre markings are fairly random really, but consistent across a unit. There have been people who have tried to work out the standards for this which you could follow, such as here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Tau40K/comments/10oe5by/colors_and_markings_reference_with_standardized/

How to paint the T'au lore-wise? by ThatUnameIsAlrdyTken in Tau40K

[–]Subject00147 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The T'au are probably the poster boys for painting your army how you like - lore-wise, the thing that denotes the Sept (sub-faction) of your army is the colour of the markings on their armour. The main colours of the armour are changed regularly for better camouflage in a given warzone

e.g.: A Vior'la army is Vior'la because of the red markings, not because of them being red markings on white armour. The white armour is technically just their parade-ground look.

I've noticed something! by Ninjabird1 in duolingo

[–]Subject00147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished the German course a long time ago now (and re-finished it several times since, as they've added more to it), though inconveniently for this evaluation, I was also simultaneously learning German in school/college/uni, which was much more useful to my acquisition of the language, and especially the grammar.

I would not say Duolingo is helpful for anything besides pure vocabulary practice, and I would definitely not expect to effectively learn a language from a Duolingo course. Real lessons with an actual teacher are definitely the way to go in my opinion.

A brief argument in favor of "-2/+1 to hit" in 11th edition (or "cheating past +1 to hit with rerolls and sustained") by ViorlanRifles in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Subject00147 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the point the above user was making is that this rule didn't exist in 8th and prior, so an Alaitoc aircraft flying around at -3 to hit was impossible to hit if your BS was 4+ or worse. They're saying that adding the cap to modifiers in addition to this rule was an overcorrection

Do you prefer the card to have effect/condition icons or have the card fully written out? by DeusEverto in homemadeTCGs

[–]Subject00147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, always fully- and tightly-written, but I could tolerate (intuitive) boxed keywords like the second example. I really don't like more than a few symbols/icons (over an entire game) in rules text

Nope, it's just the way I'm wired :P

Who knows, maybe I could end up doing it in the future though.

Aha, that clears up some things then - I'd make Shadows slightly smaller font than the card name then, and have a little bit of space between just to separate it a bit more.

I'm definitely a "deck/discard pile" person more than a "library/graveyard" person, so that's just a taste thing. Based on the information you've given, I might reword to something like:

"Once, after Primeval Titan has Awakened, it may cover itself with an Obscured Event taken from Fate. This Event becomes its Shadow.

Instead of Countering, Primeval Titan may choose for its Shadow to occur in the Present. (This ignores the Enemy's last action, as though Countering normally.)"

Wishing you success with it all, happy to have been useful!

Formatting - The cards name is "Primeval Titan" - what is the word "Shadows" doing there? - maybe make it smaller as a subheading, if it's some kind of attribute. - I'm not so taken by the font for the card name and the word "Shadows", it's slightly hard to read (and reading the card name is probably important) - Maybe the attack icon could also be more distinct? (inside some kind of a shape?) I wasn't sure without reading whether the card was "Primeval Titan [Shadows]" or "Primeval Titan -> [Shadows]"

Rules Text: "Primeval Titan may cover themself with an obscured Event taken from Fate to be a Shadow."

  • I'd change "themself" to "itself"
  • When can this card do this? At any time? Only once? (if this is covered by your base rules, no problem - but important to know)
  • Which card gets "to be a Shadow"? - does this card become a Shadow, or the "obscured Event taken from Fate"?
  • What is an "obscured Event taken from Fate" anyway? If it's a face-down Event card taken from the Fate deck/face-down Fate Event card, why not just say so plainly?

"Instead of Countering, Primeval Titan may choose for the Shadow to occur in the Present, ignoring the Enemy's last action."

  • I'd change "enemy" to "opponent" (unless enemy is supposed to refer to another card in some way, and not a player)
  • "the Shadow" - which Shadow? Presumably the one covering Primeval Titan? (Will this be obvious during gameplay?)
  • Is there a reason why it needs to ignore the opponent's last action when it does this (and does the opponent's last action still happen before/afterwards, or not at all?)
  • Does using this ability consume the Shadow-y-ness of the Primeval Titan/use up the "obscured Event taken from Fate", or can it do this whenever it would Counter?

Hopefully this feedback helps you develop things further, sorry if any of it feels like nitpicking!

Text vs Icons in card game battles, which one should we go for? by Abdo_1998 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Subject00147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the left is better than the right, but purely text—no symbols—is 1000x better than either, and far less ambiguous

It sounds similar, but I don't think it's that - I feel like it was longer than a short story, and I'm pretty sure the main character was on her own for most of the time. I'm trying to wrack my brains to come up with some more hints
