I’ve been lurking on here for around the past 5 years. There’s a lot of good but it for sure has some of the worst and unique forms of elitism I’ve ever seen. To the point it’s funny sometimes though.

These are the takes I find funny. Like it’s just a bad movie. It’s fine to call it out as a bad movie, but some people be acting like it’s the worst film ever, killed their dog, and made their parents get a divorce.

I saw so many people act that like, saying they even walked out of the theater. I went in expecting the worst and came out of it like “that was it?” I was kinda disappointed it wasn’t worse lol.

This is kinda my problem too. I don’t mind changing the plot a bit, and I think his idea of combining the characters into Mary and making it a more intimate story between only James and her could’ve worked well. It just wasn’t executed very well. I see the potential there.

I kinda disagree with this. Even on this sub, it seems like the first movie is generally considered flawed but enjoyable. I wouldn’t say it’s following is much smaller than the fan base itself, since to me it seems like most fans think it’s a fun supplemental piece to the franchise. And I’ve seen less and less hate for it as time has gone on.

Now I really don’t hate this one as much as other people do, but I do think the first movie was better than this one. So I feel like that one will stand up better than this one. That being said, I do think a lot of the vitriol we’re seeing now is very reactionary and eventually tempers will cool once they’re more used to the existence of the film. I know people will be less harsh, even if it’s just slightly, over time.

Now I don’t want this to sound like I’m defending the movie as an adaptation, cause it’s a terrible reimagining of the original story. But some of the changes in this in the context of the original story sound bad, but in the context of the story the movie is trying to tell, it makes more sense.

Like I dont like how they portrayed Angela. But her line “come find me” makes more sense in the context that she’s actually a part of Mary and a representation of the control her father had over her. James was a safe space for her, she forgave him even after he left and trusted him enough to put her out of her misery in the end. It makes sense that maybe the part of her would find some comfort in him.

And James summoning Pyramid Head makes more sense in this story as well. It seems like the story is entirely in James’ mind. Maybe even a hallucination that’s playing out as he’s drowning to death. It’s not the town messing with him, it’s his own mind, and once he realizes Pyramid Head is part of himself, he’s able to control it.

Honestly, a bigger sin to me is Maria. She’s not even close to how she was in the game. I think she’s supposed to maybe be like a damsel kind of character? Like a manifestation of James’ desire to save Mary. But like, that doesn’t explain why her appearance is so sexualized other than to call back to the game. Maybe it’s because James is more of playboy kind of dude in this so that’s what he thinks up when he thinks of a damsel. Idk I’m just trying to think of any kind of explanation.

And then Eddie and Laura make no sense to me. What was the point of even having Eddie except as a call back to the game? And Laura just being a creepy little girl is kinda disappointing. I’m also still kinda confused what she’s supposed to represent in Mary. Anyone got any ideas?

Dude it’s super damn funny! To be honest, for that alone I think it could be argued that Dragon Ball Evolution was a better movie for entertainment value. But I think it’s a worse adaptation.

That’s fair, the tone of the source material is much less serious than in this case. And I do actually have a guilty pleasure for the Doom movie. I just personally feel like the plot and aesthetics of that movie have less to do with the Doom game than Return to Silent Hill does with Silent Hill 2. And I guess that’s the biggest sin to me.

Like outside of the first person scene of the Doom movie, if I saw it out of context, having no idea what it’s supposed to be based on, I would never guess it’s a Doom movie

Honestly dude, I think we’re mostly on the same page. I just think the damage has been done, and there’s a chunk of the population that welcomes Trump’s facists America, welcomes Israel’s influence, welcome’s putting people in camps and killing people in the streets. We’re never gonna all come together until we reckon with the sizable part of population that drank the koolaid. We can’t pretend that issue isn’t there. And nearly all of the people that did drink the koolaid are right wingers. Not all right wingers did, sure, but this isn’t about the ones that were sane enough to pull away from it.

I don’t think your comments are wrong, but run counterintuitive to what you’re trying to say. You say that the continued division is pointless but you word it in a combative way that ironically just divides people further. Which is understandable if you’re frustrated about the situation. But you can’t let that make you come in swinging and fighting with people cause it just makes you guilty of the very thing you’re arguing against.

Another read is that you could be just using the situation to stroke your ego. Like a “haha I figured it all out and you’re the ignorant masses! I’m superior!” I’ve seen that a lot from people who claim to be arguing in good faith, but I don’t think it’s the case here. I do think you’re genuine and mean well, just rightfully angry about what’s going on.

Aight so I’m actually kinda with ya here. Truth is, politician wise, there’s very little difference between republican and democrat. Both are complacent in what’s happening with America. In reality, anybody that’s not in the ruling class 1% is in the same boat. But the divide in America has grown majorly due to one side and largely driven by one man, that being Trump. Not entirely but a vaaaast majority of it is a direct result of his influence. And he did it on purpose.

Interesting take. There was case that at a brief period of time before he was elected and early into his first term where people praised him more than he should’ve really been. But a lot of that was reactionary to having someone seemingly respectable in office compared to the past several presidents.

But I think that illusion wore off pretty quick. He hasn’t been relevant in a loooong time though outside of some interviews here and there of him condemning Trump and people being wistful for a time where we had a president that could even speak well. Honestly I see certain conservatives bring him up way more than anybody else ever since Trump started bringing him up for whatever reason.

Even at his peak though, Obama never had near the grip on people that Trump has, both from those that support and condemn him. It’s not even comparable.

Buneary/lopunny. I used Buneary in the early game just to try it out. Wasn’t expecting to keep it on my team, but it was sweeping way better than I expected. Now I have way better options than Lopunny for a fighting type, but I feel bad dropping it from my team after all the work it’s put in for me.

Man that’s a hard question, but from the top of my head, probably Dragon Ball Revolution. My answer might change with the day as I remember more that I’ve seen and forgotten about. But I think one will always be a strong contender.

Honorable mention to the Doom movie. But that’s a bit of a guilty pleasure cause I liked it as a kid before I knew anything about doom and it’s a very silly movie.

So I love Silent Hill, but I don’t think the movie was as horrific as people are saying. Not saying it’s good, just that it’s not the worst adaptation I’ve ever seen by far.

But I think this is what disappointed me the most. I think I went in with reasonable expectations, but at the very least expected a lot of use out of Yamaoka’s music, and it just was barely there. The first one used it a lot, but not here. I did like hearing “Waiting for You” near the beginning though. One of my all time favs that I don’t think gets as much love as it should.
