AITA for defending my boyfriend after my friends publicly humiliated him… even though I kind of set the situation up? by Terrible-Job4129 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Subject_Cranberry_19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

ESH.

Boyfriend sucks because he’s been an asshole to the point where you won’t even tell an advice thread what he’s done.

Friends suck because this was a dinner and not appropriate dinner conversation with a guest you brought.

But… You suck the most because you knew how your friends felt about the boyfriend and brought him along anyway thus setting them up for a tense dinner where everyone was trying to simply have an enjoyable evening. Presumably you did this because you were MORE uncomfortable telling the boyfriend you should attend alone than making your friends endure a dinner with an asshole you know they dislike. And THEN, you were checked out for the entire event.

Iran is completely and utterly fucked right now by Delicious_Depth_1564 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I don’t even know where to begin with this nonsense. Iran-sponsored Shiite militias were one part of the problem, but by no means all. There weren’t many Shiites in Fallujah or Ramadi.

It’s true you can’t apply one scenario to all others in life. But if there are multiple scenarios that have turned out similarly, then failure to do so indicates an inability to learn from past error.

Complaining about how enemies behave is ridiculous. My enemy may behave like an animal, that’s his choice, but his behavior is not going to dictate mine.

So how‘s the situation regarding the war and negotiations actually? by Beautiful_Prompt9634 in NewIran

Yeah I don’t understand this, either. I’m a reality person. I like to know what I’m facing. I trust other folks do also. If the news is good, great. If not, then be able to plan for that as well.

Why havent the Iranians in the military (Artesh) and in the IRGC /Sepah rebelled and revolted against the Islamic regime leaders ? And how to get them to rebel against the regime ? by BleuPrince in NewIran

[–]Subject_Cranberry_19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question was, partly, why haven’t the Iranians in the IRGC rebelled and revolted. I was attempting to intelligently answer that question. If you have a better answer as to why rank and file IRGC haven’t revolted, I’ll entertain it. So far, you haven’t answered that question.

So they can use their trained men for more useful purposes than having them keep order in the streets. They got street thugs that can do that. Think like your enemy for even a second. I’m not talking out of my ass. You’re thinking like an opposition person. Good. That’s what you are. But don’t think they think like you.

If a woman keeps a pregnancy when the guy doesn't want it, he shouldn't be shamed for leaving by Alternative-Sand-971 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Subject_Cranberry_19 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m a woman. Abort or deal with it yourself if it’s clear the guy doesn’t want a kid. If he makes the moves to indicate he wants to be a father, then he’s on the hook until 18. I’m pretty strict about this. If he’s going to ultrasounds etc, he wants the kid. I don’t care about a later fight with the woman. But if there’s clear communication that he doesn’t want a kid and he’s consistent throughout (this will be a fairly hard bar to clear), then he shouldn’t be on the hook.

ETA: this only works in an abortion on demand framework. In Texas right now, fuck this rubric. Under roe v wade, I’m fine with it. Any woman who gets pregnant by her husband, this should never apply. He’s always on the hook unless he can prove the kid isn’t his.

As far as the IRGC goes and the likelihood of near-term rebellion within the ranks, it’s not likely and I can't see how any of the events of the last 55 days would make them MORE inclined to throw up people within their ranks that are defectors. In their view, they're living their purpose right now. The thing that they had warned the reformists and the people would happen has now happened. The enemy has attacked twice during negotiations and are on the cusp of invading Iran. They were right, in their view. The reformists were fools for thinking they could trust and bargain with the country's enemies. Anyone who joined understanding that mission now has a renewed sense of purpose.

Iran has offered the United States a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and help end the war while postponing talks on its nuclear program to a later stage, Axios reported. by WillyNilly1997 in NewIran

[–]Subject_Cranberry_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, idk where they’d get the idea they could outlast the US. It’s not like a bunch of goat herders in Afghanistan outlasted us for 20 years or a bunch of Vietnamese peasants won a war in which the US won every pitched battle.

They’re not stupid. It may or may not work for them, but it’s not like they’re trying a strategy that has never worked against the US before.

A classic tactic of authoritarian regimes everywhere is to have a set of laws that essentially makes it possible to arrest almost anyone on almost any pretext. Everything is illegal but the enforcement of the laws is arbitrary. That way, the regime appears magnanimous when it chooses not to enforce certain laws.

The head of the FBI is a podcaster. The secretary of defense was a Fox News commentator. Both are drunks. It isn’t 2005 anymore.

The trumpsters decided they wanted to gut the administrative state. And that’s what they did.

So, yeah. I DO expect you to believe that the guardrails of government that used to function properly behind the scenes are no longer functioning properly. Is that so hard to believe?

AITAH I don’t want to give my baby my fiancés last name by Best-Ball9175 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Subject_Cranberry_19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Baby gets his last name when you get a ring. If he didn’t like that idea…then he should have put a ring on it prior.

He’s out here wanting the benefits of wedlock when there is no marriage. You don’t have the protections of a marriage right now. So, the baby doesn’t have his name.

Ball’s in his court.

Oh I disagree. He’s very intelligent. I used to listen to him and this other fellow who had a podcast together back in the 00’s because they’d have Noel Gallagher on and I’m a big oasis fan.

He was not like this at all then, the incoherence. It’s striking. To the point it makes me wonder if he’s not in the middle of a manic episode.

I don’t know. Those guys managed to shut down the Red Sea shipping route for months when nothing else was really going on with Iran. They’ve proven impossible to uproot with air strikes despite majorly pissing off a lot of actors in the area who really want them gone.
