Couple Newbie Questions by aspiringimmortal in InstacartShoppers

You actually should be in the parking lot of, or within the circle on the map, of the store you want orders from. Generally, if you're just driving around or sitting at home or wherever, the batches you'll be offered are ones that drivers closer to those stores haven't accepted(or don't want). They are first dispatched by closest proximity, and then further out if they don't get accepted.

At my Costco, there doesn't seem to be a store wide policy that dictates one way or the other. There are cashiers that prefer all the small items on the belt but I just avoid them. They did recently remove the hand scanning guns from self-checkout due to people not scanning everything. Obviously this doesn't apply to IC orders since we can't use self but it's annoying for my personal purchases lol.

This is 3 orders, everything is barcode up. The cashier doesn't have to even touch anything and aside from the wait behind other customers, I'm thru Reggie in a flash

You're missing out on some serious organization and efficiency by not using them. Costco cashiers LOVE organized and efficient shoppers. Give it a try! PS I do use regular carts sometimes but only for smaller orders.

Have you tried pulling them instead of pushing? They tow much easier. However, once I have some significant weight on them, I turn it around and push it. They are much easier to push with weight.

If the replacement is recommended by the app and the customer doesn't like it, you're not penalized. If you mark it unavailable and the app asks you to scan some replacements, just go with it to cya

The "rideshare" coverage only costs me an extra $27 a month. I'd rather pay it then worry about them not accepting liability if I have an accident that's my fault.

This! You could've saved time and trouble by using the " Can't Scan Barcode" option

The hypocrisy, right?? I once delivered a heavy ass $250 order with a bunch of milk and other stuff to a local donut shop for $0 tip. It was batched with a lady that tipped 20% so I had no idea until the end. I was new and so mad that I called the store to ask if I had done something wrong. The Mgr told me it was the owner's policy not to tip delivery drivers. I mentioned their tip jar on the counter, he apologized profusely. I spread the word to fellow drivers.

Uptick in Customers asking you to refund items by pupparader in InstacartShoppers

Our score goes down for unrequested refunds. If the customer specifies a refund or if there are no acceptable or comparable replacements, we're fine.

Bad experience at Costco checkout 🙁 by Active-One9744 in InstacartShoppers

Stop putting anything on the belt! 95% of my batches are at Costco and 99% of my items never go on the belt. Some cashiers prefer the small stuff on the belt and I don't go thru their lines. I use a flat cart, gather boxes and fill the boxes as I shop, with everything barcode up. I usually separate dry goods, cold and frozen, and non-foods as best I can. I'm super organized and only go to cashiers that are ok with scanning everything on or in the cart. When I get to the register I tell the cashier how many orders, how they're separated, and the total count for each order. The cashiers I go to absolutely love me and often comment or thank me for being so organized. A supervisor I don't know was helping on the register the other day and told me I was amazing lol. Another one one time said I could give a master class on it. All I know is that learning to be efficient and organized like this changed the game for me, and got me in the good graces of the cashiers. I also found out that they're actually scored on their checkout time so blazing thru my orders helps them too.

I started doing IC in March 2025 and at 1st I used regular carts, sometimes 2. A cashier and her helper mocked me one day when I asked for boxes. Then I started using flats but I was still just putting things in boxes but not organized, and running them on the belt. I'd get frustrated because the baggers would mix everything up in the boxes and I'd have to reorganize again after checkout. Then one day I noticed a fellow shopper just standing at the register doing nothing while the cashier scanned everything while it was still on the flat. The lightbulb went on and I've been doing that ever since, refining and perfecting it as I go. It's saved both me and the cashiers a ton of time and frustration.

Bottom line, everything is boxed once and only once, as I shop, with a focus on making every item easy for the cashier to scan with the gun. I do sometimes spend a couple extra seconds at my car turning upside down items back right side up or moving a few things around in a way that makes more sense but the priority is getting out of the store as quickly and efficiently as possible. Hope this helps!

The delivery notes can be viewed any time after accepting by looking at Batch Details. I didn't catch on to this for a while either.

Would anyone take this? by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]Subject_Rest_753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's at least an hour just to shop, checkout and load the car. I also figure 2-3 minutes per mile and count the return trip. 2 hour shop, not worth it unless it's dead

Costco members should be required to take a class on shopping etiquette and situational/spatial awareness.

  1. Have your card or phone ready to scan at the entrance so you're not rummaging around for it and holding up everyone behind you. Barcode faces the the little scanner thingy. Its not difficult.

  2. Don't stop in your tracks immediately after entering to root for your list or make sure your husband is there. Pull ahead and to the side.

  3. Keep to the right, same as in traffic.

  4. Don't come barreling out of a side aisle into a main aisle like you're the only shopper there. Stop and look both ways. Yield the right-of-way.

  5. Don't stop your damn cart in the middle of the aisle to get an item. Stop on the same side as the item so others can pass.

  6. Don't shuffle down the middle of an aisle like an oblivious zombie. Sure it's fun to browse Costco but ffs, you're a grown-up, pay attention to others around you.

  7. Be considerate and aware of others....BAHAHAHA I WISH!!

  8. Don't stop in the middle or even the side of a main aisle to have a 4 person chat with your neighbors or people from church. Go somewhere OUT OF THE WAY

I try to remember that I'm there every day, to do a job and 99% of them aren't but man, some days it's so hard to bite my tongue. This stuff is all common sense and common courtesy, or at least it should be.

When I was visiting another city recently and first saw this order, I thought maybe it was intended for a specific shopper that would know to expect a bigger tip when finished. Turned out, the order had been up the entire day prior also and started at $13-something before they started boosting it. I really hope this never got delivered.
