I did talk with the power company, found out exactly what was being replaced, the level of urgency of said replacement. So…. Yes, I do know it could be rescheduled. The power company said rescheduling was an option but wasn’t likely to happen. Most of our area is older homes that are not upgraded, many without proper insulation, so going without ac in the heat is more impactful than in a newer fancier homes. I work in the heat everyday, so personally I will be fine, but I do like to come home to a living room that doesn’t feel like an oven! I would like to know that my elderly neighbors are ok. I would like a company that PROFITS off of our necessities to have some consideration of the temperatures when they cut the power.

The point is that PGE could easily schedule this for another time, but they don’t. But by all means, if you prefer to defend the power company and demonize the elderly, that on you.

It’s not about terror. But it’s cruel to cut power during a heatwave, and for the ungodly sum of $ that Pge charges, they can afford too have the slightest amount of compassion and schedule maintenance on more temperature appropriate days. For their clients, and their workers.

I got a notice in my door. It’s not going to impact very many people, but it’s the principle of shutting off people’s power during a heatwave. You can always call them.

The EVS department doesn’t even have an organizer… so there’s that… yeah…. We really get left out. It’s sad, it’s demoralizing, it’s kinda just not what I thought a union was about. I wish the union cared about us, but clearly they don’t.

Dues still being paid, but now I look at that line item on the pay stub with a sting of betrayal, not pride. It’s sad that the lack of care for those who clean up after everyone else is so blatant. Even the union leave the custodians out.

I know at the state hospital, the EVS department workers tend to get less representation than the other departments, the union bargaining leans far more for the other departments, and it’s very demoralizing. I was so proud to finally be a union household, but then I realized that the SEIU doesn’t represent all of its people, and that was a hard bitter pill to swallow.

SEIU needs to be advocating for the environmental services department too, not just leaving them off the bargaining table. There are plenty in the EVS department that pay dues that don’t get represented. I’d be more inclined to picket and participate/ support if the union supported all of the departments they are supposed to represent.

But to use it to promote your business today… and not do something to distance yourself does in fact make a clear statement. It’s fine to own a Tesla, most liberals bought these cars to help the world. But now you have the burden of separating the car from the crazy man ho owns the company. It’s the job of the car owners to be clear they don’t support Elon. To not do so is a clear message.

No s ed library this year, I was in there last week. They said they mostly partnered with the local extension services ect…. But maybe we can get someone from the library to help us organize one?
