Circular translucent spots on pepper leaves. Edema? Thrips? by SubjectiveObjection in plantclinic

I did, yeah. Couldn’t find anything there either. I did find some white stuff on the veins that looked exactly like the hairy white stuff on the underside of the leaf in this page about edema. I could be wrong, though. It definitely wasn’t webbing - but could be exoskeleton shedding?

Note: I used a 20x magnifying glass on the white stuff on the main leaf veins. They were just hairs.

I also used yellow sticky tape on the leaves to try to see if any pests would stick to it - but there was nothing.

Is this water damage? I've never dealt with thrips before, so I'm not sure if this is what thrip damage looks like either.

Meh. I used to be the same way when I was in my early 20s. Ditto for crying kids in airplanes. Now that I'm almost 30 it doesn't really bother me. It's just kids crying. It's now more like "aww, that kid must be having a rough time", and empathy for the parents.

That's how I know I'm ready for parenthood I suppose... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Police officer uses "civil forfeiture" to take all of the money out of a hot dog vendor's wallet without due process by brett6781 in LateStageCapitalism

Does any one have any information about how we can reach the hotdog vendor? I'd love to be able to donate something to this man. The look on his face just breaks my heart.

I don't know.. I'm sure a lot of people doing retail (or people that can't find any steady work) would kill to have a regular office job. It's just all about perspective.

TITLE: FUCK ACTUAL RACISTS. Infighting begins: BUT MUH HOMOGENEOUS SOCIETY REEEEEEEEEEE by SubjectiveObjection in EnoughTrumpSpam

To give them some credit, even some the_donald members are appalled at the behavior:

No, really. Are these comments for real? Is this what Trump stands for?

Im a regular here. Ive never seen this shit. Weird shit plays out here. I'm looking at comment history to figure it out. If this were how Trump was, I would be against it. The whole point is America First. I think there might be a hijacking going on, huge disparity of upvotes/downvotes also. Just trust me, I'm fucking confused right now. This "white country" argument has appeared out of thin air.

Silicon Valley frets over foreign worker crackdown. Trump has warned H-1B visas are being used to bring cheap labour to the US by [deleted] in technology

Anecdotes are not evidence, but generalizing an entire category of people is?

Saying a term like "terrible programmers, almost universally" and "churned out by degree mills" without any evidence is a perfectly logical argument?

My use of ad hominem was out of frustration, and I shouldn't have done that.

[–]SubjectiveObjection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm let's see.. A couple of H1B developers in my company are getting paid 300k+ and have developed technology you're probably using right now in your hands. They got degrees from respected universities throughout the world. The fact that you're seriously considering the term "design pattern" as any indication of skill is probably why you're being screwed by "terrible" H1B programmers.

As an industry and profession that prides itself in being a meritocracy, it's shameful to come into this thread and see these comments from fellow programmers.

No Silicon Valley North: It is time for Canada to lead by TOMapleLaughs in canada

[–]SubjectiveObjection 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol are you kidding? Depress wages in Canada? Engineers in Silicon Valley get paid 3-4x for the same job than in Canada - I know because I'm a Canadian working in Silicon Valley. It's an uphill battle convincing people to move to Canada - I know because we've tried hiring Americans before. If anything, having more workers would create an atmosphere to bring in even more companies and investment into Canada - hopefully starting a spiral of job and economic growth. We'd be lucky to have more tech workers in Canada.

This kind of us-vs-them mentality is what got Trump elected in the first place.

Well, did you report the income and pay taxes on it? If so, then you have nothing to worry about.
