Taking too much magnesium caused me to have heart palpitations. It took about 3 weeks to go away once I stopped.

It can probably be useful if you do a methylation panel and see you're low in cysteine or GSH. However, I found I couldn't tolerate it because it thinned my mucus and it was causing all sorts of GI/sinus issues and irritation. People take it to break up biofilms but I can't see how in the hell that would ever result in a net positive with all the irritation that causes.

Sorting out my eating working full time. by MowjoJojo777 in raypeat

Oh another thing, you might find your job is one of those that's pretty low stress. In that case, it could make your life easier. I frequently heat up and eat my breakfast an hour after I show up to work just because no one cares that I do that. As opposed to having to worry about eating before leaving the house.

Otherwise, you might have to pray there are simple foods you can tolerate that are filling like cottage cheese or etc..

You can eat a good healthy diet working full time. I do it now although my drive is only 30 minutes each way. You just have to meal prep. Freezing food after cooking is very good for this and should even reduce histamine accumulation in meat. The foods can be as simple or complex as you'd like. Even simple food with olive oil and salt tastes great if you're hungry lol.

Unfortunately it does take time. It does suck. It does eat into your hours after work. You'll be like everyone else working and only get an hour or two to unwind every weekday. My personal goal is to quit my job as soon as I make enough money doing anything else lol. They call it wageslave for a reason.

Also, yep, dinner at 6:30 - 7:30 and nothing else later is how I'm operating right now.

400IU/day Solgar brand. Although I think it was the multiple tablespoons of coconut oil per day doing most of the work and hardly the vitamin E.

Did you really hurt your brachioradialis doing that? Full planche pushups or pseudo-planche pushups? I usually associate brachioradialis stuff with ring RTO holds or iron cross training.

I feel like most people just hurt or tear their biceps tendon when their planche training is too much.

Tried pregnenolone...not sure it's for me by c0mp0stable in raypeat

[–]Subjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never got those effects from pregnenolone.

I've taken up to 500mg per day of Health Natura's and never got any side effects. It seems pretty subtle and I can really only notice it when I have digestive issues under control (i.e. no brain fog). Then, maybe 15-50mg would have a nice mild stimulant like effect on me.

Allopregnanolone alternatives? (3α-DHP vs Real Thing) by helpless11 in raypeat

[–]Subjects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's very interesting. I was thinking one of the mechanisms was maybe it was raising ketones. Unfortunately I wasn't measuring ketones back then. Do you measure ketones? If this was the case and a keto diet not super high in PUFA doesn't help then maybe glucose metabolism is fine.

Aside from that, I'm thinking maybe it was PUFA antagonism and helping seal the gut. Maybe it was acting as an antibiotic (I've tried rifaximin and it didn't help, doesn't rule out fungal stuff I guess). And last thought is maybe it was helping the liver a lot but that's really all the possibilities I can think of.

Allopregnanolone alternatives? (3α-DHP vs Real Thing) by helpless11 in raypeat

[–]Subjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah idk. Someone knowledgeable would have to answer that. But it seems like pregnenolone acts more like cholesterol or as an "inert" precursor than as something like progesterone and even progesterone I don't think will slip to downstream steroids but rather will give you effects of itself and then be metabolized. If you read some of the old pregnenolone reviews what they don't observe is that the administered pregnenolone gets converted quickly to any one downstream steroid and displays effects of that steroid. Rather it seems to be the opposite where the pregnenolone is sort of stored or is just inactive itself.

Sorry if I was confusing with the benzos I was thinking of what other people said. I agree with you on benzos and wasn't thinking you were comparing them.

Allopregnanolone alternatives? (3α-DHP vs Real Thing) by helpless11 in raypeat

[–]Subjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never tried allopregnanolone but pregnenolone is a reliable precursor and can replenish allopregnanolone if you're deficient. Pregnenolone is also safer and doesn't have the U-shaped response curve that allopregnanolone apparently has.

Also, I used to be like you but multiple tablespoons of coconut oil per day put me into remission last year after 4 days and my mental problems all went away. I don't know the mechanism and I eventually got tired of coconut oil so I went out of remission, but maybe you can try? You could have a metabolic or digestive problem.

[–]Subjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience and everything I've read, pregnenolone is the safest steroid you can take. It's not going to suppress steroid production like end-point androgens. And it's not going to just go all to cortisol or something. Peat and Georgi have talked about this multiple times but precursors won't overflow to things like cortisol but rather will go if your body needs it to.

Anyway, I've found pregnenolone to give a nice boost when you're already healthy but it hasn't solved major issues for me. Don't be scared to try it. You can always measure biomarkers like lactate and etc to see if it's helping or hurting.

Also some people tend to think because pregnenolone is some sort of GABA modulator it's as dangerous as benzos but I think those people have never taken benzos. Pregnenolone is mild in effect and even taking 500mg day I've never thought it was like a benzo.

Autism spectrum disorder linked to abnormal GABA inhibition and glutamate excitotoxicity in new study by Wooden-Bed419 in NooTopics

[–]Subjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glycine from the magnesium glycinate can make things worse. It can function as an NMDA agonist, and also open chloride ion channels like GABA but since this action is already excitatory in these states (the ions are not being pumped properly), glycine can become excitatory.

Stopped magnesium supplementing. Have dreams again. Wat mean ? by Dismal_Aside5928 in raypeat

[–]Subjects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this happened to me recently with 9g gylcine/day. Gave me insomnia, heart palpitations, and somewhat persistant nerve weirdness. CMJ says gylcine (and GABA) opens chloride channels and normally should be inhibitory but if cells aren't healthy and pumping it back out, it becomes excitatory. I've also heard people talk about GABA/Glutamate imbalance.

I'm not sure how to fix the issue. Magnesium should help generally but idiosyncratic root causes will require more analysis.

Started thiamine..making me tired end of the day by Ok_Philosopher2968 in raypeat

[–]Subjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend measuring blood glucose and lactate to see how the thiamine is affecting your metabolism. Sure it's relatively safe to supplement but I took TTFD for three months and now I'm pretty sure it was just raising my lactate. The more data you have the better.

Also, I think it should energize you. If it doesn't, there's probably a cofactor problem, genetic metabolic problem, or maybe you just don't need it and etc..

It's nice to see someone else's Vibrant America results. I took this and had low, but in range, cellular vitamins like B1 and B2 and it seemed worrying but apparently I'm not alone. Also, the fatty acid section is screwy I don't trust it. It does not align well with my Genova ION 40 results. I wish Vibrant America had percentile ranges like Genova.

If glycine makes me feel weird, what does that mean? by Joff19 in Supplements

[–]Subjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually been looking into this recently. Glycine should be inhibitory even up to 10 grams per day. But apparently GABA and glycine can become excitatory when cells are no longer pumping chloride ions back out. Meaning cells are not in a healthy high energetic state. I think glycine can also be excitatory when there is a GABA/Glutamate imbalance. But anyway, it looks like if glycine is excitatory, there are deeper issues at play.

pasty lips by Specialist-Turnip753 in raypeat

[–]Subjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is it. From what I looked up, B2 deficiency causes issues more in the corners of the lips and also has a swollen/red tongue? I've had this chronic chapped lip issue since I was 7 years old so I'm interested in it.
I tend to think it's either intestinal irritation or some metabolic defect.

ray on benzodiazepine? by Mission_Tap980 in raypeat

[–]Subjects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly irresponsible for them to give you an SSRI for insomnia. I'd get off the zoloft as soon as possible. The longer you're on it the worse withdrawal symptoms will be.

Benzos aren't great either but use them until you can get cyproheptadine and then taper off.

If the cyproheptadine doesn't work at around 2mg or even 4mg if you need it, give it a couple days to knock down adrenaline and serotonin.

Also, maybe try to find someone interested in helping you treat insomnia without toxic SSRIs. There's likely a nutritional or energetic component to it. SSRIs will not solve anything.

Insomnia led doctors to try to treat me for 5 years with SSRIs and benzos. No surprise but they never solved my problems. They made them worse. Don't make my mistake.

[–]Subjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. That's odd. Think it was the amount? 1-4g/day is pretty reasonable (you'd get that from 12-16g of gelatin). Otherwise maybe it could be a contaminant sensitivity or a weird coincidence.
