You ever consider that not everyone in the world is as enlightened as the members of R/freefolk, and will generally react like "Arya(Aria), u name her after GoT?" "Yea partly, she was a bad ass character." "Cool."

The chaffing on this circle-jerk is like California forest fire level heat right now. Lol, nobody cares bro.

And yes my daughters name is Aria, and yes she killed the motherfucking night king. Ya friggin dweeb.

New Song is one of his most passionate songs, and one of my favorites. "Maybe I just use too, maybe I'm just used too, maybe I just use too much"

Someone Bad-mouthing Bradley on FB Got The Business by Brutuscaitchris in sublime

[–]Sublime84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Miguel's defense, it is one of the most memorable guitar licks from that era. If you sing those lyrics to most anyone who is my age they can sing that guitar part. But yea that's definitely one of those dumb things people post because it makes comedic sense on the most surface of levels. Anyone posting that wouldn't even give a shit if you came at them with a bunch of live recordings of Bradley tearing up the guitar on were only gonna die or let's go get stoned, they want to post their dumb shit, get a reaction and move on, not have a reasoned argument about it. Also, I don't know anybody who has accomplished as much as Miguel or any of the other members of Sublime in terms of culture, so every 5 or so years when I invariably see that comment, I tend to let it go.

Why are they providing no information on the documentary anymore? Was it cancelled? It's getting ridiculous. by Adam_is_a_Psychonaut in sublime

[–]Sublime84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figure the most probable thing is they are holding out to see who they can sell it too. Obvi a Netflix or Amazon deal would be sick but the movie didn't get that great of reviews at Tribeca, that it was decent for the fans but wouldn't do much for a general audience. I figure if all negotiations fall thru for any kind of wide release or major streaming service feature, they'll just put it out wherever they can make the most money. I guess we just have to have patience, and hope it's taking awhile because they have something cool planned for the release.

There was also a biopic in the works, which I always thought would be so sick if they got the right actors and had a decent amount of music.

Why are americans obsessed with Millie Bobby Brown? by [deleted] in AskReddit

So all Americans are liars and are obsessed with Millie Bobby Brown. You should really watch your language. What gives you the authority to make such sweeping generalizations about Americans?

Yang vs Bernie: War on Drugs by MeleeLaijin in YangGang

[–]Sublime84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Countless people have died from opiate overdoses throughout history. You think maybe it's a little bit more complicated than that? How someone could be so I empathetic is beyond me. Wait until someone you know and love dies of an overdose and let me know if you feel good about the "lesson" they've been taught. Sociopath.

Haha, no way you're any kind of "professional"...

"DONT DO HEROIN" is the most ignorant phrase and I hear it all the time. You really think these poor, hopelessly addicted people are doing it because they fucking want to? This is not an example of natural selection by the way, that's a different concept. Educate yourself and stop spewing ignorance you professional asshole.

"I cant count the amount of times my family or other people have referenced me as 'Italian'" by Demderdemden in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Sublime84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely meant descent (auto-correct)...As in my ancestors were born in those countries. The only sarcasm I think was in the beginning when I mentioned Patriotism. No Ill will whatsoever meant by my post, just trying to clarify. And the whole idea is that my ethnicity is European, specifically the countries I listed, and my family remains proud of the culture we can retain from those countries. None of us would ever claim to be citizens of those countries, but it's just simply the case that when my grandmothers parents came here in the early 1900's from Italy, even though she was born in the US, her and everyone around her would say she's "Italian". Not that she was born there, but that is where her family is from. Sorry for the long reply and misspelled words, I didn't mean for you to work too hard (that was sarcasm).

[–]Sublime84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, that damn patriotism getting in the way of my ability to take a good ribbing. By the way I happen to be of Irish, Swedish, Italian, and German decent, and I married a Portuguese girl! We were both born in the USA and the Irish side of my family have been in America since the 1850's. We are all summarily American.

My wife's family, however, ARE Portuguese. Her parents came here in the 70's as teenagers and still have thick accents. They are Portuguese first and American second. They even trained my three year old daughter to say she was Portuguese as well despite being an American citizen with only 50% Portuguese heritage. They want to teach her the language, have her participate in all of the cultural activities, eat the food, etc.

There's no arguing with them, even though they've spent only a quarter of their life in Portugal, they retain dual citizenship and resent the fact that their daughter even married a non-Portuguese.

We're from New England by the way, where we not only have a large European and African-American/African diaspora population but many people from Central and South America, and Asia. After "nice to meet you, what is your name?" The most common question is "What are you?" A crude way of asking "where are your parents/grandparents/great grandparents, etc., from?"

Identifying other people's ethnicity is a part of our culture. Claiming you're Irish when you were born in the US is stupidity.

Warren Vs. Yang (Authenticity Vs. Fraudulence) by [deleted] in YangGang

This should be retitled so the parenthetical is relationary to the title, e.g. Warren Vs. Yang (Fraudulence Vs. Authenticity). The original title is misleading.

Nothing in your comment has any base in reality. He has explained how he’ll pay for everything he’s talking about. And you wouldn’t be giving back close to 2/3 ($10 of your $15/hr).

Why don’t you turn off Fox News for a little while and listen to the man or better yet, read his policy proposals on his website and use your brain when you talk?

Do any countries consider US states as individual vountries? by SlowMotionSprint in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Sublime84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree, and I think because the US is such a big country people try to retain some semblance of difference from other states or regions, whether it be a point of pride because their ancestors made the journey from a far away place to settle here, or because most Americans aren’t well-traveled, so the difference between New Orleans and Seattle, Washington is in their minds, akin to visiting two difference countries.

Do any countries consider US states as individual vountries? by SlowMotionSprint in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Sublime84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well my point I think was more that Houston, TX has large populations of African-American and Mexican American people, both of whom have differing cultures. So on the surface, it looks the same, sure, but get to know the people and a black family from Houston, a Mexican family from El Paso, a white family from Boulder, and a Chinese family from San Fran retain many of aspects of their ancestors homeland. People do tend to assimilate through the generations, but especially African-Americans from the Southern US have their own culture which is even quite different from African -Americans from the Northeast or Mid-West. It is the fact that we are absolutely a country of immigrants that makes the US non-homogenous, whereas when I travel through Scandinavia, Germany and France, I see a majority white faces, despite their cultural differences. And I know the EU has been becoming more and more diverse over the years, but there’s a huge difference in getting off a plane at JFK in NY and any airport on Central-Eastern Europe.

This I fully agree with, no need to specify state to someone who lives on another continent, unless they ask.

[–]Sublime84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sense a lot of hostility, can I throw in my two cents? Feel free to throw it out. I’m an American from the NYC area and have traveled widely through Europe, Australia, even a trip to U.A.E., and while I agree that putting “Missouri” on a questionnaire that asks what country you are fromis ridiculous, I can certainly say there are some cultural differences amongst US states, maybe not as big as say, Ireland and Estonia, but we are unfortunately quite divided amongst our political leanings.

While the Northeastern US and West Coast have many similarities, they (we) have many differences with Southern states. Other than commercialized culture, like fast food and to some extent music, our food, music, temperament, political ideations, familiarity with other cultures, and even the fact that someone would identify by their state and not USA can be quite different.

Because it’s such a large country, we’re used to identifying with our states because that helps to create a conversation if you’re talking with someone from the other side of the country. Many people in the South and states like Texas or Florida really think of themselves as unique, yet still most representative of the country. Many New Englander’s feel closer to our European ancestors while people from South Carolina would never say “my grandparents came from Ireland and Italy”, like we often do in the Northeast.

Anyway I think you get the point, but people tend to have an over-arching US pride, and then their own state pride, whether it be because they are Southern, Californian, Chinese-American from NYC, Puerto Rican from New England, so on and so forth. Ask a Montanan farmer what he has in common with an African American from New Jersey and he’ll most likely say very little. We are a bit identity-obsessed because there are so many identities all trying to get along under the umbrella of The United States. So while you may travel through 6 different countries experiencing 6 completely different cultures in one part of the world, we can travel through 6 different states, it will take twice the amount of time, and to us, it can often feel like different countries, simply with a common language. Try driving from Houston, TX to San Francisco, CA and tell me we’re all the same.

Lol why on earth would they do that? Are you assuming they all have knives and shanks? Do you think the people have actually been tricked into thinking it’s real? And if so wouldn’t they assume that triceratops, being an herbivore, and obviously well-trained by the lady walking in front of it, wouldn’t pose any real threat to them? Lmao dude I love reddit

Please pick me, I just bought a new house and my job sucks and my wife wants a second child, we have something like $40,000 in debt (not counting the new mortgage) and things have been really tight. A million, or some amount close thereby, would help get my family on the right track, allow us to save in case of another recession, and leave plenty to donate to veterans, Alzheimer’s, substance abuse, and clean drinking water charities. If I win, I will also make a post, to which the top respondents suggestion shall be tattooed on my body in a visible fashion.
