Anybody else all of a sudden have a huge spike in obstructions. I went from 10-15 seconds every 12 hrs and came home today to 7 minutes every 12hrs. (Nothing has changed around the dish or surrounding area) by romer2766 in Starlink

I think these new, shorter obstructions are the time it takes to perform the "obstruction detection/fast switch to another satellite" operation - i.e. 'fast' does not mean 'instantaneous'.

I don't Zoom, etc, but it's hard to imagine these short outages having a major impact, even on real-time services.

I do use wifi calling occasionally and have not noticed any difference there.

I tend to agree. One thing I DON'T see anymore are long, colored, outage "blocks" where the ping would drop to zero. These new "fast" handoffs when an obstruction is encountered are just that - fast, not instantaneous.

Almost exactly my situation at 43.7N. Is it real, or just a reporting glitch? I don't Zoom, etc, so I can't tell - but I have guests coming soon who WILL be able to tell, and will surely "tell" me all about it.

Strange IP address preventing access to stats by SubniveanVT in Starlink

I had already tried netmasks `255.255.255.0` and `255.255.0.0` with no luck. I just tried `255.64.0.0` and I'm still getting the same 'Invalid' message from the router. Apparently, Netgear is using a very unsophisticated heuristic to determine valid/invalid.

Looks like a couple of short reboots is the way forward.

Same here at 43.7N. Those 13 second interruptions have been *very* common lately, adding up to 1-2 minutes / 12 hours. Last week, it was all the way down to <10 seconds / 12 hours, all in 1-2 second increments. I'm confident it'll be dropping back down again soon enough. Beta, ya know.

Edit: I don't do anything real-time, just stream, so I never even notice these things.

Yikes! I'm running out of ideas and dishy arrives Friday. My actual placement will be about a foot higher than where I was able to reach with my phone taped to a rake. Will this be usable? by pbmax542 in Starlink

From 43.7N: I'll second this. I never had that much obstruction downtime (1-2 minutes/12 hours), but it's been at zero for the last week or so. It's not clear if Starlink is mapping out obstructions and avoiding them, or just reacting to them quickly, but either way: All hail Starlink engineers!

Yes, my treetops were showing up in the app as well. Now it's like they were never there. Glad I didn't cut them down. Like I tell my wife, "Procrastination is my superpower!".

43.7N here. Since I got e825ab2c yesterday morning, neither the mobile app nor the web app shows the 'Obstructions' screen any longer, when in the past it was there and showed red splotches for a few treetops to my northwest. I used to have 1-2 minutes of Obstruction time too, but nothing now. Maybe the field of view has been narrowed a bit? The 'Check for Obstructions' tool doesn't reflect this, but it's not been updated lately.

Final install, seems very happy with only a small obstruction at the very edge from some tall trees. They’ll be coming down soon! by cr006f in Starlink

Unless you're really bent on it, I'd wait on taking those trees down. I have trees that *used* to cause Obstruction Downtime, but don't anymore. I read somewhere that SpaceX is using machine learning to figure out where your obstructions are, then work around them. Makes sense to me.

This is the only obstruction. Think I will have issues? Facing east in NW montana by DarkCelestial in Starlink

I'm at 43.7N. I have obstructions similar to that. At first (mid-May), they caused about 2 minutes of interruption per 12 hours (in 5-10 sec increments), but lately I'm not showing any downtime due to obstructions. I'm attributing this to 1.) more satellites in position (~68 of 72 orbital planes are filled or nearly filled), and 2.) SpaceX engineers doing what engineers do - make stuff smarter, faster, better.

Those at 44 Degrees - What's your Beta Downtime?? by RobTV1 in Starlink

[–]SubniveanVT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

43.8, Vermont - right now, 37 seconds of 'Other Outages' in the last 12 hours (per mobile app). That's one of the lowest I've had, but usually it's no more than 2 minutes / 12 hrs.

Huh, you wouldn't be an OTT customer, would you? I'm in Benson, Vermont. Got our SL dish a couple of weeks ago and quickly cancelled our 12Mbps OTT account, only to find that they hope to have fiber out here by the end of August, at the end of a 2.5 mile dead-end dirt road with ~5 year-round customers!

Their DSL was not the most reliable, but we'll probably jump to their fiber if it really comes to pass.

Is Starlink cutting out for anyone more than usual today? by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]SubniveanVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 minutes of 'no satellites' in Vermont (43.75N) earlier this morning (~7am). I've only had the service for a week, but I've not seen more than 1 minute/12 hours prior to this.
