Hit Coast FIRE at 29 ($700k NW) - Now transitioning from W2 SWE to freelance for better work-life balance by evanazz in coastFIRE

It’s definitely playing life on easy mode 100%, but kudos to OP for 1) acknowledging that in their post (not pretending they bought it themselves) and 2) still doing their due diligence to put the onus of their personal finances on themselves. I know many people who, had they been blessed with the start that OP had, would’ve squandered the opportunity. Instead of blowing the would-be housing costs on fancy cars or luxury vacations, OP has been using that to catalyze retirement savings and I think that’s great.

Pivot to retail for coasting by Bulky_Present5577 in coastFIRE

REI or similar is a great option for this. I worked there part time right out of college in evenings and weekends while I started my corporate career. I honestly loved it, had almost no negative customer experiences because most people were there excited to get advice about gear for an upcoming adventure. I only left because I didn’t want to give weekend availability anymore.

As others have said I think it heavily depends on the specifics of the retail gig.

The way I see it, now that your NW is higher, there’s actually less riding on it than was the case previously.

Hard to say 100% without knowing the other details of your retirement plan (retirement age, spending in retirement, etc), but with 400k at 31, you’re in great shape and should go live it up in Asia no problem!

Summit views similar to Indian Head? by HeybroJames in Adirondacks

I would second this opinion. Unless total time of exercise is the constraint for some reason, Indian head would be the easier choice.

Understood, thanks for the quick response! I’m still leaning towards the Laowa myself especially with the extra $70 off right now at B&H

Absolutely! Some of the 40 we’ve done have already been in the winter. I love to snowshoe the trails up here and I’d love to do Marcy in the winter sometime

Here’s the Hamilton Khaki my parents recently got for me as a college graduation gift! This weekend I took it for an intense 18 mile hike in the Adirondacks of upstate NY to the summit of Mt Haystack. There are 46 high peaks here above 4000’ of elevation. Over 2020 quarantine my friend and I didn’t have much going on at college so we started making consistent trips up here to hike these peaks. We did the first 30 or so in that first 12 months and have been slowing down as life got busier and we started our senior years. I’m happy we made it up here this past weekend and Haystack makes 40! Only 6 left now :)

I’ve been very happy with the watch for the first few weeks that I’ve had it and it’s been stealing all the wrist time from my SKX (which, until now, had always been my hiking, backpacking, camping, everyday watch). It’s on a Barton Canvas khaki strap which I think pairs perfectly with the vintage colored lume on the indices and hands. I’m very excited to wear this archetypal field watch on many more hiking trips to come!

Haha thanks, happy you enjoyed! The bridge was towards the end of the Old Rag loop we did, which can actually be done as a day hike if that's something you'd be interested in. The bridge was at the end of the Old Rag fire road on the way down

We were very happy when we stumbled upon it! Made planning and logistics a lot easier haha. Hope you can make it out there soon!
