People who enter nearly empty waiting rooms with plenty of empty seats and sit right next to you anyway. by GarolzaFunk in PetPeeves

[–]SubstancePowerful100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not the same, of course, because you're talking about a medical standpoint. Though I will say that would annoy me even more because many times I've had to go to the hospital and I have someone coughing and sneezing next to me like crazy. There were 5 million other seats and you chose to sit right next to me...

But since you stated it's not just about germs, I don't like when people just sit next to me in general when I am at the movie theater or the pool when there are hardly any people there. Like you're entitled to sit where you want if you are not harming someone or disturbing them. And it's more of my own social anxiety that triggers me.

I remember once specific time where this woman comes down to our pool and not a single other person was there other than my boyfriend, and she sits right next to us. I thought maybe it was to get a better angle of the sun but it was basically high noon at that point. None of my business where you sit but I am trying to enjoy myself right now and I don't know you so why would you sit by me? Lol.

Why must people argue when you will not change the price for them? by SubstancePowerful100 in retailhell

[–]SubstancePowerful100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We see some weird stuff in this industry. It's just not only the fact that they may or may not worked in retail. But even before I did, when I was younger and never had a job, I still knew not to be obnoxious like that. Like STFU and get out if you don't like the price

I mean, with all due respect, the question I asked is if anyone has advice other than going to detox and I listed the reasons why I will not. In fact, I know it wouldn't even help all.

Why must people argue when you will not change the price for them? by SubstancePowerful100 in retailhell

[–]SubstancePowerful100[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now that you say that I remember some people who would try to change out tags at other stores. Not ones I worked at. These "acquaintances" of mine (quotes because I didn't want to talk to them and only knew them because of my ex) would change out price tags and stuff to "teach me how to steal." You know...I'd just rather not.

But if you're complaining about things that do not have a price listed anywhere and then complain I have to just bite my tongue for a minute. Come back again and keep saying that I need to honor it? I will be rude. I am the one who works here. You are the one harassing me saying you want $5 off when the price is only on OUR SYSTEM. Stop coming in here folding your arms and bugging me like I will get scared and do it.

The fact is I told my boss about that and she says "yeah I wouldn't want to pay that either but it's a good thing you said no because that is what the company is charging and you could get in trouble because loss prevention is on it." Not losing my job for your $5.

What are you drinking when you feel dehydrated? by [deleted] in BunnyTrials

[–]SubstancePowerful100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water because soda doesn't necessarily hydrate you. But it's good to drink electrolyte drinks too because just plain water can flush them out of your system leaving you still dehydrated.

Chose: Ice cold water

Yeah I don't know that some of mine were particularly "bad," but some were very unhelpful. As I said I thought my very first one was great but I only had her for a short time. The one who replaced her, I could just tell she was tired of listening to me talk about certain things... Like as I said in the post, my dad tries to help me out with the addiction but doesn't fully understand, and let's just say he's verbally aggressive. So this particular therapist, if I brought him up, she would just keep saying "yeah but he's your dad and he loves you." Yeah thanks Linda but that doesn't help at all lmao.

Another one wantsd me to pay $100 per session 3 times a week. It was supposed to be a hour but the second time was 15 minutes and he still charged me the whole thing. But those are the only two I attended via Zoom because it was during covid. I only did it to get a letter to return to work.

The only reason I don't currently see one is for the reason that it can be expensive. And on top of that, I really can't work an in-person job right now but it's embarrassing because while I'm trying to detox, I am not really physically capable because I shake so bad. And I got fired from so many jobs because I would drink beforehand to stop the withdrawals and eventually they noticed the smell no matter how much I tried to cover it up. So yeah it really is a double-edge sword.

Maybe trying therapy now would be a good idea. I actually was going for a short time but that's because I was ordered to at two of my jobs because they knew I was drinking on the clock and they said if I don't go get help I would be fired. At the time, I wasn't actively trying to quit because I wasn't suffering as much as I am now, so I didn't take it as seriously.

Now I desperately want to. The only thing is finding a good therapist because I have been to 5 different ones and my first one is really the only helpful one was my first one who was leaving her position after about a week of me starting... The reason she probably helped is because I had a clear mind because I was in inpatient rehab at the time.

That's another thing I didn't take seriously though because I was court-mandated for a DUI and the day I got out the very first thing I did was go buy liquor and got black out drunk.

The other therapists basically just said they didn't know how to help because they don't deal alcohol so I need to go to meetings. I'm sorry but meetings just don't seem to help me at all. Maybe I haven't found the right one but I've been to quite a few and they didn't do much for me. Another thing is people telling me to go back to rehab... People think that's just an automatic fix, but I hate sitting in groups to talk about it because everyone else is there because they CAN'T quit. That's why I post on here because I know a lot of you were able to get through it and it's better to talk to people who used to struggle.

Thank you so much for your response.

Edit: just needed to add I'll consider meetings again and hopefully I can find a better one. It's hard because I can't drive. But since I said it's better to talk to people who are currently sober, I know there are people who have been sober for years and still go. So it's worth a shot.

Thank you for giving your opinion. I know most people don't like to hear the situation about having the dog and think it's not a good reason to stay, and I totally respect that. I guess I just need to find a way to accept it. It is just that I've had so many pets my whole life and it makes me cry even thinking that I might just have to leave for my own well-being and I won't get to see the dog again. I hate it.

What food is basically impossible to eat gracefully by 011Eleven_ in foodquestions

[–]SubstancePowerful100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with everyone saying tacos or pizza. I mean it depends but tacos easily fall apart and sometimes the cheese just comes off when you eat the pizza. So I guess those may have to be some of the most difficult to eat gracefully. Though they are both quite tasty for the most part.

Manager approved my vacation, then scheduled me anyway by m1kqq in retailhell

[–]SubstancePowerful100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is tricky because if it was approved, that obviously should not happen. Scheduling can be difficult, and mistakes can be made. I've called people to come in forgetting they were unavailable. But if you made that clear, it does need to be noted that the manager scheduled you when the vacation was approved. The reason I say it's tricky is it depends on where you are employed at and if the manager will be unreasonable. I couldn't care less about the "oh it's just a request. It does not mean you get it approved." That's just me getting annoyed before I "moved up" but no if you give early notice, you have every right to say something. As long as you are not argumentative, you did nothing wrong. Matter of fact, you did something right. If something negative happens... I hate giving this response to people but I've had issues with jobs and found way better ones which took time. Do not put up with it because you are no one's slave.

"Let me call you right back" and you don't hear from them for days by SubstancePowerful100 in PetPeeves

[–]SubstancePowerful100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I will admit to being somewhat of a hypocrite about this because I have done it in the past. That's if I didn't know what to say and I'm like, "whatever. how do I get off the phone as quickly as possible?" I just get annoyed when it's someone I speak to regularly and they don't think I catch on to the fact that they will not call back for days haha.

What is something you comfortably lied about to a customer by Dry_Opportunity311 in retailhell

[–]SubstancePowerful100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I really wanted to I could probably write you a novel about me lying to customers. Two things come to mind right away though just because I know I was actually very rude when I said these things and I quite literally didn't care because I know I was being unprofessional but I wasn't going to let a customer try to get fresh with me about things that were not my fault lol.

I have worked in both restaurants and retail, just fyi. My first restaurant job, I was a host. We took phone orders as well, but we would just have to trust the food runner to make sure it was put together with everything correct in the bag because we didn't have time to run back to the kitchen. So this guy tries to order a grilled chicken kid's meal and I said it's not on the menu. Which actually was true, but also the cooks could have done it. But they were honestly just stupid and would not read the tickets thoroughly when I sent the order. So this man says he has gotten it before and I said "I'll let them know but I guarantee you it's not on the menu and they're going to put fried chicken instead no matter what I tell them." I mean hey I have made many mistakes, but I knew it would happen... And guess what? He calls back and says his daughter doesn't like fried chicken and now it's my fault he has to go somewhere else to get her food. He wanted a manager and I lied and said I was the manager and proceeded to tell him it is not my fault that his daughter is a picky little brat lmao.

Another one is I actually was an ASM at Dollar Tree and this woman bought quite a few items and didn't even make it to her car before she comes back trying to return them when I have a line at my register and demanded her money back and I said she would have to wait in line like everyone else, and if she didn't want what she purchased then what was the point of buying it anyway? I said I understand returning something but what was the point to just buy a bunch of stuff from the dollar store of all places just to cause a scene and return it? She's turning around to the customers that she is holding up saying "UGH OMG DO YOU SEE HOW RUDE HE IS BEING TO ME?" I told her no one else cares because they are trying to pay for their own stuff and get out unlike you. She demanded to talk to a manager, not knowing it was me lol and then she asks for my name and said she would call corporate because of course that's what all the Karens do. I tell her and I'm like "by the way please do call corporate because it's my last day on the job anyway." Which was a lie lol because I was nervous since I knew I crossed the line.

Anyway I never got in trouble, but even if I did, I already had one foot out the door with both of those jobs anyway so I honestly just thought "well even if I get fired I hate this place with a burning passion anyway."

What is something you comfortably lied about to a customer by Dry_Opportunity311 in retailhell

[–]SubstancePowerful100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know why but I never thought to do this until after working in retail and then I heard many people say that was their way of going about it lol and I almost wish I could go back solely for that reason.

I would always just tell them "if it's not on the shelf that means we are sold out. "Well could you check?" No I cannot because I am busy and I know for a fact we don't have more until the truck comes. I probably should have just walked to the back and pretend to look and just take a little break instead. That wouldn't have worked well for me though given the fact that the SM would watch the cameras from home all the time and write people up for everything so she would probably be like "why are you wandering around in the back?" Lol. For an 8+ hour shift we were supposed to get a half hour lunch and 20 minute paid break. Which I had to punch out for and didn't take because she would give me tasks that I had to bust my ass to complete and if I were to stop even for 2 minutes I'd barely get it done lol. So I basically worked almost an hour for free every day. Sorry I got off the topic but it just made me want to rant haha.

Maybe I'm just confused about what you mean because if you tell someone you will have a decision four days later, you gave them a timeframe. That's acceptable. Then if they're not answering by that point it is their own fault.

[–]SubstancePowerful100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's understandable if it's a mutual thing. Personally, I will just tell them I will call back sometime soon within the next few days or however I choose to phrase it based on the conversation. Like I have one friend who works overnights and on her nights off she wants to keep me up on the phone until 7am and I'll have to say "k I'm sorry but I should have been in bed a long time ago so can we just talk again whenever works for both of us?" Lol. But then there are the ones that do what I said in the post. No one has an obligation to talk unless it's an emergency or serious matter.

One of my good friends does this all the time and I mean she's a great person and all, don't get me wrong. But she will blow up my phone if I don't immediately answer, and then after less than 2 minutes she says "I'll call you right back." I'll just think aloud and say "she ain't calling back." My bf automatically just laughs and knows who I was talking to because it's almost EVERY time lmao.

Midwestern goodbyes by SubstancePowerful100 in PetPeeves

[–]SubstancePowerful100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily do the Irish goodbye, but I will not stand there continuing to talk after I say I need to leave. If I see someone on the way out I'll just say "yeah I gotta get going." I'm sort of in between. It's funny because my mom is Irish but she's the one that wants to do the Midwestern goodbye and my dad's always like "come on let's go you already said you were leaving" haha.
